I have used their Icecream PDF Converter since I first got it on here and I love it. The main screens are similar and easy to use. I tried converting a PDF to Doc using the OCR converter, it took longer than I expected but it was a big file and OCR does take longer than non OCR conversion. I tried a 2.1 MB PDF scanned book that would only convert to images, non-editable. It took over 30 minutes, but I got an editable 381 page Doc file. Great program. Now to try it on scanned PDF to see if it holds the table format. My thanks to Icecream Apps.

Although I didn't have an immediate need for a program of this type, I downloaded, installed and used it to convert a PDF of my trucks owners manual to a word document and remove a bunch of irrelevant pages from it. It worked perfectly.
I just had to so I can say with certainty that it was really easy to install and use...and as usual wonder what is wrong with ALL the people who can't READ ?
It is becoming SO inane constantly reading people posting about not being able to install Giveaways...or that they don't work on XP or how they have to disable their 3rd party anti virus and firewall software.

Installed very smoothly... Tried out their Compress option - it compressed a 546KB file to 526KB - not very impressive... But when I tried compressing the same file on their website (https://pdfcandy.com/compress-pdf.html), it got compressed to 66KB! Somehow they're using a different algorithm or a different set of options on both these places!

I had no problem installing. I used it to split a pdf -- asked for groups of 3 pages, got all pages individually. ALSO -- they appeared all over my desktop!! AND moved nearly every shortcut (dozens!!) which created a huge mess.

They should've appeared in the folder where the original file was located. Please fix this because it looks awesome otherwise..

I took Ray Eason's advice and tried to instal it on XP, It installed alright and activated itself, and said it was activated, but would not start. I received the following message:
"This application has failed to start because dwmapi.dll was not found.
Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
I reinstalled a few times but it did not help.

Reply   |   Comment by Laxative  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Laxative,

The dwmapi.dll file is common starting with Microsoft Vista. The developer may have compiled the PDF Candy Desktop program in a way that attempts to load dwmapi.dll regardless of OS, even though it may not be needed in XP.

In the past, other users having the same issue with dwmapi.dll on XP OS have found that Microsoft's ATL Security Update has solved the problem on XP. You should try the update at this location:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14431

if your system does not need it, the setup will let you know. If that is the case, then it will be the Icecream PDF Candy Desktop developer's responsibility to check their compile options, then test the results on an XP OS. I hope they do take the time to investigate the issue, as it will alleviate having to go the ATL Security Update route.

Good luck with this. Let us know the results if you can.

This could not possibly have come at a better time.

I had an unsigned Word doc so I re-saved it as a PDF (I could have done similar using todays offering) I then used Candy Desktop to split the doc (Remove last page) Printed out a copy of last page, signed it and scanned it and saved as a PDF and them VERY quickly merged the signed page with the rest.

Absolutely beriilliant!
Saved me a lot of faffing around esp as the Doc has to be in court tomorrow at latest.
Large file but install went flawlessly.

If not for todays need I may well not have bothered but this is one of those programs that does stuff you cannot easily do without it.

Thanks PDF Candy - you are a lifesaver and thanks GAOTD.

Look good, BUT during installation and activation go message "ShellExecuteEx nije uspjelo; kod 1155".
The first PDF I tried to conver ended with error. The resulting DOC output opened in Word Protected View (meaning doc could harm your computer). When I looked at the doc output, the capital letters and font size continually change and although it looked like the document converted it was bascially very, very hard to read.

So, these folks need to go back to the drawing board and fix this software. If there is a place I can send the ouput to help them, let me know. BTW, I had Avast turned off.

Good luck. God blass.

Reply   |   Comment by Morgan Pierce  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

ShellExecuteEx error 1155 means either your need to run the program as an Administrator or the file that is being launched by ShellExecuteEx can't find an associated program to run the file with.

Install doesn't work. Run Setup.exe. It crashes. Then tells me I'm activated. but since the program won't install, it's kinda useless to be activated. please note this is NOT the first time I've found an app that interests me and it won't install. Don't know why I bother.

Flawless installation. Win 10 64.
Huge amount of options, to convert from and to PDF.
First test + 320 Mb, 2120 pages epub with LOTS of pictures and diagrams ( most B&W ). Took 8 minutes to convert to a 372 Mb PDF file, but with only 1516 pages. The only problem is it doesn't breaks the pages correctly when compared to the original - sometimes part of the picture is in one page and the rest on the next page. Using eBook Converter, output size also 372 Mb in 5 minutes, but with 2165 pages and all of them preserved as in the original.
Now something simpler - pdf to jpeg . Same result as of using PDFill PDF Tools, with somewhat smaller files when using standard settings.
Merge PDF's - same result as using PDFill. Some bytes bigger result.
PDF Compression - reduced a pdf size by 87% with some quality loss in pictures, but not visible in text. Time about 10 minutes, original size 409.358 Kb, compressed 51.331 Kb.
In my opinion a keeper, BUT will not use it for ePub conversion.

If it can NOT EDIT, it not be called "all-in-one PDF solution", it should be called: manipulate the already existing PDF files.

jj juice: in discussing the merits of an orange, it's not particularly useful to extol the virtues of an apple. The two are not the same. Your seeming confusion over the difference between a PDF reader app and a comprehensive PDF management program unfortunately helps no-one.

Reply   |   Comment by MikeR  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+56)

MikeR, Why did you not mention the word EDIT in your response, that is right, this software can not EDIT a PDF file.

Reply   |   Comment by David  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

David: I dunno. It may've had something to do with the fact that I see no reason to repeat a developer's blurb on a GOTD page (in this instance, its claim to be able to edit metadata.) It may also have had something to do with its claim to be able to transcode PDF to Word and RTF, within which formats editing is perfectly usual?

Reply   |   Comment by MikeR  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+18)

MikeR, Just try to convert PDF to text, edit it and try to convert it back to PDF, all of the document will be messed up, not taking into the account the time to convert with OCR and then the formating will be gone forever. What you will get after an hour of work, it will be totally different look.
By the way, who edits the metadata in a PDF file?
EDIT means direct edit on the PDF displayed page, where you can change a word or delete a word or insert a word or two or a picture, that is called EDIT, anything else is just plain MANIPULATION.

Reply   |   Comment by David  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

MikeR, Having to convert a PDF to some other format to edit it, is not PDF editing.
It's a workaround for a missing feature.
Though to be fair, it's not a feature the product claims, it only claims to edit PDF Metadata.
Of course, "a powerful all-in-one PDF solution" would be expected to be able to edit a PDF.

I'm baffled by some of the comments here which don't match my results. The program I got runs in a partial or full window and can change size as any other program can using standard methods. Installation was quick and easy and I didn't need to turn the Norton off. The provided serial number is easily entered in the Settings menu choice which activates the Pro version.

Seems to me to be a strong performer which pretty much does anything I can think of with a PDF.

Reply   |   Comment by paul  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+9)

I had the same screen problems that the others described but fixed it by adjusting my screen resolution. Apparently this program doesn't self adjust to fit any particular resolution. With the wrong resolution, the program is bigger than the screen so certain settings are outside the view of the screen - such as settings where one inputs the activation code. Looks like a great program. Thanks GAOTD!

Reply   |   Comment by Diana  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+10)

Ah, the other consideration would be if they have the size settings magnified. That makes a difference too. That might have been all I needed to do. I had things scaled larger to see them more easily. Hope this helps those that are fussing with the screen issues.

Installation worked well (windows 10). Gave it a try and it worked fine on the few bits I tried. Interesting that you can't see the PDF in the program while working on it. So for tools like split and OCR you really need to have opened the PDF in another application to see what it is likely to do first.

Bambi, hi there
Have you tried to disable all and any anti-virus anti-malware you may have? Do this, (redownload if necessary), then reinstall the pdf software with admin rights (right click and chose from there) and this warning should not appear. Kaspersky is often the cause, as this is a common error for many GAOTD installations. Hope this helps!

RobertR,

I kept getting on my win 10 64 machine a message saying that the setup file could not be decrypted, even though I had disabled my Panda Dome antivirus each time.

But thanks to your awesome tip I was able to install this software.

This is why I enjoy reading comments on this site. Not only I learn a lot, but very often, kind people like you come up with some terrific advice.

Thanks again for your helpful comment.

Well, it is certainly great to have such a multi-functional tool -- if all functions work. I haven't had a chance to check it though, as I have yet to find WHERE to install the licence number! For some reason, never before seen with any other GOTD, the display is so LARGE it partly runs off the page! And nowhere can I see any place to insert the licence number! In a few hours it will be too late -- so can anybody enlighten me as to WHERE on the "All Tools" page I have to click to even GET the place to enter it?

No, wait -- I decided to reset my notebook display settings, although they are as MS recommends -- and lo and behold (or "behold and lo", if you live in the southern hemisphere!) I could then SEE the "Settings" box at the bottom, and was then able to enter the licence number.

However, this may help others who may face the same problem: if you can't see all of the screen with this programme (or any other like it) try re-setting the screen resolution (I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T 13) -- even if temporarily -- as this may overcome the problem.

Just for info: To use the programme, my screen was set to 1920 x 1080 with text etc. having to be set to 125% -- whereas before it was recommended to set them to 150%. (Right click on a part of the desktop and adjust the Display Settings.) Since 150% is too BIG for my 13" screen I guess I will have do this every time -- for this programme. Other programmes may well be inconveniently small if I keep that.

But if the programme is as good as it LOOKS, I suppose that is a small price to pay.... when it's FREE!

Tranmontane, resizable window on Win7 here.

Tranmontane, Thanks for the tip on resizing the resolution. It doesn't make sense (to me) to have it hidden all of the way to the bottom of the screen. Also, with some programs you need a microscope to read the settings but with this one you can read it across a football field. I would make the suggestion that the user interfacw be more friendly, but they are not going to listen to me

Runs in full screen mode only, and "window" cannot be resized without hiding the programme. Cannot restore program from icon--must restart. Not worth the trouble on a big monitor.

Frank Meek, Didn't do that to me (Windows 10) Just all normal windows.

@ Frank Meek,

On Windows 7 Pro the "PDF Candy Desktop" program window is re-sizeable for me. Also, I have no issues restoring it from its minimized state in the taskbar. Frank, what operating system and monitor are you running this program on?

This is sadly not for me as it does not support XP, BUT I have a copy of IceCream e-book reader which is really excellent, from GOATD, and recommend it very very highly to everyone. I am surprised they do not advertise it on today's page. The developer is very thorough, no problems of any description, they have thought of everything and even more, and it all works wonderfully. So if your system will take it you really must try out properly anything that comes from this developer, they clearly do not make crapware. If only it worked on XP I would jump at it.
I see incidentally a lot of favourable comments, which is not always the case with GAOTD.

Laxative, a lot of software not listed as working with XP may actually work anyway. Generally omitting XP means the developers haven't tested it with, and don't provide support for, Windows XP. At some point they drop testing stations/personnel for older OSs.

It might be worth a try.

Laxative,
Windows XP has not had support from Microsoft since April of 2014. It was released in late 2001. It's not that the program isn't for you, it's that you're so far behind the times. If you're still using XP and not at least Win 7, you will find fewer programs that can be installed on the platform. If your computer is so old it can't handle Win 10 (I'm almost certain it is), a new one would be highly recommended. Microsoft no longer releases patches for XP save for the highly unusual patch in March 2017 to fix the WannaCry exploit. You are placing whatever data is on that computer at risk by continuing to use a deprecated operating system.

chaimington,
You do know XP is still to date the best Windows OS out there closely followed by 7.
Win 10, Vista and 8 should be trashed worst OS ever been made windows 10 is nothing but spyware and crap ware forcing users to accept that their machine is owned by Microsoft.

chaimington, I am NOT behind the times and resent your insult. You obviously are too lazy to read all the comments on GAOTD. Microsoft can do what they want, I do what I , yes I, want.

chaimington, Does windows 10 teach you to be abusive?. The people behind the times are those who have not understood all that wipeout wrote.

You took my reply as an insult when, in fact, it was not, nor was it intended to be. I simply stated facts and instead of at least giving me the benefit of the doubt, you replied with venom and hate.
