Thank you for this software. I've got it from GAOTD and is great. I prefer this program to CCleaner which used before.

Just got a low disk space warning. Come to find out that the file:

C:\Documents and Settings\User20\Local Settings\Application Data\Abelssoft\PCFresh\log.txt

is full of 25 GB of this error message (evidently the size continues to grow and grew to 25 GB from Dec 23 to Jan 4.)

at WinOpta.Classes.Categories.Performance.ServicePerformanceItem.createRecommendationItem(Int32 level)
WinOpta.Classes.Categories.Performance.ServicePerformanceItem : System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

A bug??? or something wrong with my machine??? Anyway, did a search and replace to "" of the above text and the file shrank to 5 kb and in about 10 minutes it is over 75 kb.

every time i see the name abelssoft i become very enthusastic because they have two wonderful free programs, checkdrive and youtube song downloader.
but this time i am not as pc fresh is very disapointing.
it has no advantages over ccleaner, advanced system care and ashampoo win optimizer which are all free and it lacks very important feature such as registry and disk and registry cleaning modules.
i uninsstalled the program because i am using the free programs i mentioned above.
thanks GOTD.

My recommendation is to stay away from these types of software, they more often cause trouble, than do any good. If You don't know how to tweak Your Windows manually You shouldn't touch this at all either....

There are some misconceptions about this program that I have read above. It does NOT recommend to disable things like Windows Firewall, it simply provides you an option to do so. Same goes for Disk Defrag, Aero, Windows Backup, Windows Search. On the contrary, it actually wanted me to turn ON Windows Backup and Windows Search, both of which I had disabled. (FYI, turning off Aero increases performance on lower-end systems - every little bit helps)

I did notice a comment I agreed with, and that is if you click some features of this program, it tells you you can add these features "for a small fee". - Oh really? For free I can uninstall...

For some of the tweaks, yes the actually work. But also they are nothing that many freeware or other paid applications provide as well.

One weird thing I have noticed is that sometimes there are occasions where the program is just sitting in the taskbar (like after windows startup) and is using ~37% of my processor? I can understand the optimizers working when my pc is idle, but when I need the performance? If your program is using 37%, that's 37% I can't give to another program that I am actively using...

This program don´t do more than Windows is designed for !

I did buy it last time it was offered here and I was very disapointed with the modules ! You get less than you pay for !

Pros/Cons isn´t relevant as this would be waste of time for a program that show you what you did decided on the time of Windows install !

Don´t read this as an "Stay away from this program" attitude that advise you not to buy this program... if you find it usefull then is it okay with me... and you´re now warned about my experiences with this software !

well I will say it is not as good as these because i have been using them for along period

* CCLEANER (easy to use delete unnecessary system restore points etc)

* ADVANCED SYSTEM CARE

and as well as

* TUNE UP UTILITIES (FOR registry editing , ram boosting , defragmenting,
customising visual display, logon screen,+ one click maintenance )

After seeing the above cons I uninstalled. Thanks anyway GAOTD

Many thanks for your clarification...I really appreciated it!

Now I'm willing to try your software!!!

However, I was wondering why after installation your product recommends the following (see comment 5 above):

2.Disabling disk defrag
3.turn off aero
4.turn off windows backup
5. windows search

And finally....what can this tool do more to justifice its (cheap) price, compared to the other FREE apps I mentioned in my previous comments above?

Merry Christmas from Italy!!

Well it installed without any issues on my XP pro sp3 PC.
Asked for an email address but filled in the registration key without having to look at the incoming email (which went to junk folder).

Very fussy MMI and nothing special or unique that I could find.

I have everything here already from freeware.

As my PC is optimised it had no noticeable effect on its performance.

Somewhat disappointing. Will remove it forthwith.

Thanks GOTD But i think that i will pass ....I paid $30.00 for 10-bit and it seems to work great . I was comparing the pros & cons between 10-Bit and PC Fresh .
The only thing that i had to shut down was my anti-virus.
There is a free version of 10-Bit that i started using .
That does the same as GOTD's PC Fresh

Hi guys,

this is Sven from the Abelssoft team.
If anyone of you has questions for PC Fresh, please let us know via email (contact@abelssoft.net) and we'll be happy to help :-)

@Giovanni:
Of course PC Fresh doesn't simply deactivate the firewall.
When you start PC Fresh the first time, then it shows a wizard asking you if you use the Windows Firewall or if you have an own firewall. It only suggests you to deactivate the Windows firewall service if you told PC Fresh that you are using an own firewall. - Because in those cases, you don't need to run a second background service. It will only consume memory and CPU.

@Tall53: Maybe you can send us a message via email so that we can help you?

@Deena: Glary Utilities is certainly a nice product but they only do cleaning. In contrast to this, PC Fresh concentrates on tweaking your PC. For example, it can find out unnecessary startup programms to shorten your PC boot time, etc.

Just give it a try. If you have any question, please let us know...

Best greetings and marry Xmas,

Sven

Well, when an app like this one asks me to turn off my FIREWALL I usually get angry and very suspicious indeed....so suspicious that in the end I decide to immediately uninstall it, regardless of its real effectiveness.

So THUMBS DOWN to PC FRESH and its developer just for this reason, not to mention that there are plenty of FREE TOOLS out there that can do the same things and more without asking you a dime.

For instance, to make your PC as quick as a brand new machine, try one or all of these pretty unknown but extremely powerful FREE secure cleaners and Windows optimizer tools and let me know your feedback about them.

Personally I'm using all of them and eaach one works like a charm, without asking me to turn off my FIREWALL....

So who said we have to pay to keep our system like brand new?? LOL!!

...and now I've given PC Fresh a shot. It asks you some simple questions about how you use your PC and then suggests changes that you can make on the spot or disregard. Start-up, increased RAM performance, running processes and other features are covered and explained on an item-by-item basis. And it covers a lot of items. I've got IObit & JvTools as well but this will probably be my "go-to" application. So now I'm going to test the disk defragmenter and see if it's anything like Abelssoft's Jet Drive program.

No need to worry about spam. Herr Abel is going to send you a note on his new or refurbished software time-to-time and doesn't exchange your email address with other enterprises. So far my experience with this company, btw. the software I have used wasn't not soooo impressive that I have kept it for a longer time. And a freebie I had presented a nagging screen at its start, so it was eventually deleted since I have an alternative. merry xmas, happy chanukkah

This is just a crippled version version without 'Autostart' and 'PowerNow' modules but not the full version (for $29.90 as claimed).

These could be "upgraded" for just another $9,90. Ref. to [German upgrade offer]

BTW, software version is PC Fresh v2011.67.

MerryXmas to everyone.

Some points re various earlier posts:

@ #2: Don't confuse CCleaner with optimizer software such as this. But don't under-estimate CCleaner, either, as so many users often do: I've lost track of the number of folks I know who have a Startup Management app on their PCs but never realised CCleaner's tool-set incorporates that (and much more.)

@ #4:: Yes, the iObit software is an optimizer app. And like every other optimizer app, its lineage dates back to Jouni Vuorio who in 1998 created the first registry cleaner and first uninstaller independent of Windows. Over the years, Jouni added more features to his app and finally released jvPowerTools, which eventually became commercial-ware. jvPowerTools was and remains the yard-stick by which all optimization apps or suites are measured. And though now a paid-for, jvPowerTools earlier versions are often to be found as freeware on the Net and well worth picking up because the product's integrity is exceptional: of all the optimizer suites I've ever tested, including today's from Abelssoft, jvPowerTools has consistently been the safest and most dependable. That said, the jury's still out on 'registry cleaning': many a time it can do more harm than good, and claims of performance improvements by far too many developers of such software are exaggerated to the point of being downright misleading. As you already have the iObit software, there's no point in installing today's GAOTD.

@ #5: I can never understand this fuss about email addresses. It's possible to have any number of gmail addys, and to devote one exclusively to software acquisitions. If you don't want to hear from the developer again, you can either block their emails server-side on gmail or can instantly create a gmail filter which means any email from a named source is sent straight to the server-side bin -- it doesn't even go into the spam box. Getting paranoid about email address requests is counter-productive in that you miss out on freebies or bargains that can actually be very useful.

@#7 : Stripping Vista of its layers of Mother-Knows-Best junk is easy. I have had Vista running without UAC and all the other daft Redmond interventionists for five years and not a single problem in that time. There are literally 100s of Vista hints 'n tips resources on the Web but Charles Sparks's (Black Viper) website is still (to my mind) the best of the lot. Just read, digest and follow his advice:

http://www.blackviper.com/

@ #8 : I'm also surprised at Abelssoft's decision to release today's GAOTD as crippleware. Abelssoft is a long established and respected German developer so product provenance is good. But I've used the full version of this software and wasn't too impressed with its meagre 7 day roll back / undo provision. (jvPowerTools, for example, writes any changes made to a log file without limitation of time; they can be undone with a single mouse click.)

Thanks, then, GAOTD but on the basis that today's offering is not the full product -- and is therefore out-performed by full-featured freeware -- but no thanks. After all, the deservedly praised WinUtilities:

http://ylcomputing.com/content/view/327/135/

has a good track record and is entirely free all the time, and one I'd recommend if it's not possible to get hold of a freebie jvPowerTools. (I actually have the commercial paid-for jvPowerTools, experience having shown that it was well worth buying.)However, it's best to remember -- always -- that optimization software has the potential to wreak havoc in the hands of those who don't know what they're doing: it's the 'magic bullet' that too many users are actually shot by. . .

The "black arts" of windows optimization raises its ugly head again!

This program completely reverses the optimization settings of the program I currently use (the optimization feature within Wise Registry Cleaner Pro).

This is certainly not the first time that I have come across this. I have in the past run both Advanced System Care and WinASO and found that they also completely reversed each others optimization settings.

The question is,of course, which one is to be believed and provides the correct settings?

I have been using the paid version of this software for about half a year now.
Like several other similar programs (including I/O Bit), it consists of modules. Not all of the company's software is included, but you can purchase more modules, add them and include them in the same interface. What's wrong about that?
I do not get any spam at my registered email address. The software company is a German corporation with high reputation.

I use PCFresh because it has a couple of features that other software does not have, like checking your 'services' and it gives you recommendations about their settings. Admittedly, I do not accept all the recommendations. Like turning on the mouse shadow or having programs ended forcibly and faster when turning off the computer.

At least, it shows you hundreds of your settings with options and suggestions - and then it's up to you to decide (or let the program decide)!

downloaded "pc fresh v2011.67" fine and installed without errors on a desktop computer running windows 7 home premium x64 (intel core i3-530, 2x2 gb ddr-1333, 1gb ddr3 nvidia 9800gt, 1tb stat II hitachi).

activation prompt requires valid email, activation code received immediately in my junk folder, added as safe email.

activated without error. (good feature #1)

"pc fresh v2011.67" asks user on what to do with "default loaded programs". (good feature #2)

summary is displayed with suggested "analysis" which unfortunately is not clickable. (drawback #1)

a clickable "fix problem" button is readily available. (good feature #3)

the program when miminized to the "notifications area" under windows 7 cannot be maximized again unless the program is closed and launched again. (drawback #2)

imho, the program is good but needs further tweaking.
i hope the developers will provide a more more user-friendly free updates to this gaotd version.

thanks gaotd and abelssoft.

Well I know this isn't a comment specifically about this software on offer today, but I do want to say that from experience there is no such thing as a blanket software solution to performance.... a "magic bullet". Those things just don't exist in life. Any part of life you want to improve, you have to learn and do it yourself.

That being said, I have tested other "software solutions" with WIN 7 x64 and most operating systems going back to CP/M (ie. before MS-DOS). I have had nothing but grief... having to go so far as to having to re-install the O/S from scratch.

Of course, you should decide for yourself if you want to try this. It might help you with a setting or two, and you might benefit a great deal! I just wanted to recommend that everyone needs to be very careful. Take the software's recommendations and then research them on the net before allowing them on your computer and precious data. You will also learn a lot! Most of us have plenty of good stuff we don't want to lose by having a computer that will no long boot or work efficiently.

That's just good sense with any and ALL software, but especially software that alters settings. Be informed yourself and understand. Learning is FUN !!

Some of you may have heard of X-teq's product X-Setup. A superb Windows tweak program. It was 20 or 30 bucks in its heyday, but they have since gone out of business. Their last version - 9.2.100 Pro is now being offered free. MajorGeeks has the download and a universal license code available at http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4083.html

I've always been impressed by this software - even the free versions were thoroughly professional, well thought out and functionally outstanding. The Pro version has even more features (save for tech support now that the company is defunct), and there are both installed and portable versions.

Merry Christmas to all.

Seems ok on w7 64.
One thing that suprises me is developers that want feedback on their software but only give a 90% program. The Power Now and Start Up modules are not supplied with this software without paying extra although there is a month trial for those who wish to test it. I do feel that the "enter your email for registration and enter your email to test" etc are nothing more than email harvesting, make sure you have a seperate email address for these things just in case of the spam attacks :)
I couldnt see any benefit in speed but i am running an i7 12gb so power issues are not really relevent, maybe for an older, slower system?
@2, this program tweaks your system settings, the excellant ccleaner takes your rubbish software off your system, 2 different tools altogether.

The good:
Install easily on windows 7 X64 pro
asks you simple questions to determine how to improve your system
tells you what can be done after installation to speed up computer

The bad:
asks for email address to send registration key. (if future spam mail comes)
after installation it recommended the following:
1.turning off windows firewall
2.Disabling disk defrag
3.turn of aero
4.turn off windows backup
5. windows search

After seeing the above cons I uninstalled. Thanks anyway GAOTD

First this is not the same tool as C-cleaner, it seems very similar to 10-bits advanced system care, http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html which we use the pro version on five computers, I have not tried this program as it will conflict with 10bits, It seems OK though some of the settings one can do in windows yourself, for a one click fix it may be worth a try, but backup first folks!!

You describe this as a "unique tool". Could you describe what distinguishes it from the many similar packages on the market?
