@91 Heynneman above: I totally agree with your comment #48. The NAME Game is madding. In regards to the miss info causing me not to do install before GAOTD expired, I sent in a 'support ticket' through my Paragon account asking to get the GAOTD installed anyway. The response was basically "couldn't help this time but keep eyes on GAOTD cause they offer free programs there frequently." They did confirm that PM11 SE had a feature not in the GAOTD 12 or the new full retail version. That is the 'copy' function. So for now I stick with PM 11 SE.

I agree with #90. Paragon posted incorrect info about the copying feature, so I didn't install the newer version either.

Read #48. I wrote it. It applies here too.

Aaarrrggghhh!

Frustrated&Disappointed--I already have PM 11SE; therefore, I did not install the GAOTD PM12 because of ParagonTeam comment at 9:23am Oct 17th stating: "Paragon Partition Manager 11 SE is the latest version of Partition Manager, but there is no copying functionality in the Special edition this time." On Oct 19th I check to see if any additional helpful comments had been added about the GAOTD. To my angst I saw a new comment from the ParagonTeam posted at 7:28am Oct 18th stating: "The Special Edition has all the functions of the Home Edition. As to the versions numbers, please accept my apologies, the latest version is Partition Manager 12. The information that the latest version is PM 11 was a misprint." Unfortunately for me the GAOTD had already expired by that time. I really like PM 11SE and would have upgraded it to latest version at no charge if ParagonTeam had posted correct information in time to install the GAOTD. But Now it is too late to install using the GAOTD download which I did save on my computer. Can GATOD or Paragon help me install the GATOD even though free install period has ended???

the free download didn't work so I didn't get a chance to try out the software. I had tested all my devices (modem, gateway) and managed other downloads with no issues, yours was the only one. I'd like a 2nd chance if you don't mind.

Dear customers, please note that disk partitioning is a complicated operation, that can lead to undesired results in case of wrong actions. It is recommended to understand first if you really need it and how it works to avoid disappointment. Please, follow all the instructions. Good luck!

Have You a german language file for me / for GOTD users?

This time we have only English build with English registration form for GAOTD users.

I installed on a 64 bit Win 7 system, and the program did NOT give me an option to select the folder to install it to OR the choice to install the 64 bit version. Got the 32 bit folder on my system partition, which is way crowded, more so now. . .

Partition Manager isn't a native 64-bit application and emulates 32-bit environment for its work, so by default it is installed into Program Files (x86). You could change location during installation.

There is no shortcut on my desktop, or in the quick start. Also, there is no listing of the program under all programs. I have looked on the hard drive and I am unable to locate the folder anywhere for this program. The only reference that I can find is in the uninstall list and that’s it.

It is most likely that you unpacked archive, but didn't install the utility itself. Please, launch the setup.msi file from the temporary folder C:\Documents and Settings\User’s_name\Local Settings\Temp\RarSFX0\PROGRAM\win-install.

Is there any way to install the recovery disc in a USB and make it a bootable USB recovery media? My computer doesn’t have a DVD drive and so this option would be useful.

Of course, you can choose the recovery image media, just mark the one you need at the second step of the image creating.

Also, is the recovery disc only useful for the partition operations? The screenshots that I see in paragon website appears to be similar to the paragon free rescue kit software. Whats the difference between the rescue kit and the recovery media attached?

The recovery CD included in Partition Manager contains all the functions of the utility, which provide more possibilities than Rescue Kit.

Is it possible to mount the image created with this program and to extract wanted files from it, as with Macrium Reflect?

In Partition Manager you can only extract files from an archive using File Transfer Wizard. If you want to mount the image, you will need Hard Disk Manager or Backup&Recovery.

The default CD boot just sits there at the initial Paragon blue screen (blue is a bad default color to choose! think: BSOD) and never goes any further, no blinking lights on the computer box.

This problem occurs in some cases because of the hardware specifications, when the Recovery CD based on Linux can't be used. There is another recovery environment WinPE, that has more drivers for different hardware. Unfortunately, it can be distributed only with paid versions of our utilities according to commercial agreements with Microsoft.

I’m planning to do a complete reformat, then repartition of my SSD, and reinstall of my OS soon, so it’s not going to work after the reformat — right?

If you want to use the utility after the OS reinstallation, you can either install and register it once more (for this case you should save a copy of the setup.msi file from the temporary folder C:\Documents and Settings\User’s_name\Local Settings\Temp\RarSFX0) or create the Recovery CD and use it when necessary.

Regarding Hotcore driver; i chose to install it on my system without knowing what it is. Now as it is optional and to be used in Windows 2000, will it affect performance or stability of the application in any way in Windows 7 64-bit? If yes, how to remove it?

Don't worry, this component doesn't affect performance or stability of the utility or the system, so you don't need to remove it.

Hi all :)
Well as you can tell by my name, i am a fan of Paragon Software.
This time i'll pass the offer because i am using their Hard Drive Manager since years anyway,
and i am satisfied entirely with it.
Nothing can defrag a HD this effective like their offline defrag part of it.
Their drive imaging backup solution saved my pc countless times..

So why am i commenting here ? Well, just to say this:
Managing a HD is something that needs to be well thought of, no matter what you do with it.
I can only suggest, READ THE DOCS, before you do anything with it.

In most cases you can avoid all problems mentioned in the above comments, if you take the time to read and learn before you start !

I know, someone might think, if a software cant do things right without havin to read a lot, is not worthy...
well my comment on that: "Thats just plain wrong."
Arranging your HD right is essential for havin a fast and reliable functioning pc.
So investing some more time in learning is essential as well.

Also you all can see here how much they care for their users.. Even for a free giveaway, they invest the time to answer almost any question in this comment forum. So if you are a customer, and run in to a problem, write them a polite letter, and be sure to get help.

Ok, that was my 5 cents on it. Way to go, Paragon and GAOTD !
You guys ROCK !!

I must admit that I come to this offering rather circumspect. My last experience with the Paragon Partition Manager ended up with an HDD partition that was unusable and irreversible with this software. The Paragon software just didn't recognize that the new partition existed. Even the recovery tool didn't recognize the new partition.

Before I panicked, I went to other partition managers and they couldn't recover this new partition either. After trying many alternatives I finally found AOMEI Partition Manager which is freeware, and that solved all the issues.

This trial of Paragon Partition Manager functions the same as the last offering from here that I had problems with. I like that there is the function of "live" repartitioning. So far, this works fine as did the last time I tried it. However, I am still not convinced that a similar problem might occur: a partition may become unreadable and all the files lost... like last time.

Naturally I still have AOMEI Partition Manager on hand to resolve any issues. But that isn't the way that software is supposed to work. You are supposed to be able to have the utmost confidence in the software you use. I am running shell-shy when it comes to Paragon now. Often when you use new software (new to you) you don't really know how it will react in your own configuration, and developers cannot foresee every possible instance.

Thus I cannot but advise that before anyone uses software such as this, there MUST be a proper backup in place.

Thus for me, I cannot vote for, or against this software because it takes too long to thoroughly test it. But frankly, I err on the side of caution. Before I do any further testing there is going to have to be a solid reason for repartitioning. And how many times have I done that in the past 32 years? Probably 8 to 10 times.

So in the final analysis, I would encourage users to ask if they REALLY need to manage their partitions; and whether that need outweighs the potential risks of data loss. The choice is yours.

This SEEMS capable, but so did the last offering here that caused me much grief. Remember that after the giveaway is over, there is no technical support... you're on your own. So please be careful. Know what you are doing and always have a current backup. Also remember that once you drive is partitioned, even a backup isn't necessarily going to help you. Partitions are a low-level hardware control that can't be undone just by restoring your backup.

I cannot vote this one up or down. It just isn't that easy.

In response to #30:
"Download and unzip successfully. After setup always get message in WinRAR “The archive is either in unknown format or damaged”."

The secret (for 64-bit installation) is to install in SAFE MODE.

@Paragon: You said...
"This product is a full version of Partition Manager 12 Home, called “Special Edition” for GiveAwayOfTheDay.com"
and
"Paragon Partition Manager 11 SE is the latest version of Partition Manager, but there is no copying functionality in the Special edition this time."

However, your product comparison page says that the Home Edition has the copying functionality:
http://www.paragon-software.com/home/pm-personal/comparison.html

And while this product comparison page says "Backup to CD/DVD/Blu-Ray" is not in Home Edition, your PM12 Consumer Full Features comparison PDF says Home Edition has "Recovery Media Builder with the copy CD/DVD functionality":
http://download.paragon-software.com/doc/PM12_Consumer_Full_Features_List.pdf

So what's up, and what's true. Is this Special Edition really a Full Version of the Home Edition, or is it a crippled version with some copying/backup features removed?

Remember, home users will primarily want the commonly-used features like create/format/delete/resize/merge partitions and backup to CD/DVD. And these features are found even in freeware Partition tools, so please do not remove such common functionality in any giveaways.

Most laptops with Windows 7 have a special (tiny) recovery/boot partition from which it boots and then loads the OS partition, and I've found that most partition managers which allow to rebuild the MBR or boot parameters, forget to set the recovery partition as active boot partition afterwards. Please take care of this.

Thanks Paragon, you make great products, and we wish you all the best.
I see you have some hot deals on the PM11, perhaps you should offer PM12 combo deals for this festive season, and I am sure many GAOTD users will jump at such an opportunity.

The $9.95 Price mentioned by above is for the full product BUT it ONLY WORKS 10 DAYS THEN IT REVERTS TO THE FREE LIMITED VERSION. If you click on the Buy Now button you will see this option as a second choice. If you only plan to do the partition changes ie-- install new OS on a one time basis then this maybe all you need but be sure you understand what you are getting for $9.99. I have Partition Manager 11 SE and it is a very good program. Does what it claims. Can be run in a consumer/beginner level or in a pro advance mode that gives you more options but these can be dangerous if you do not know what you are doing.

If you are trying to repartition or expand the Bootcamp partition, BE CAREFUL. I am not saying that the Paragon software caused a problem but as it began to do the repartitioning, the software stopped saying there were cross-linked files and to use the OS tool to fix that.

I did that for both windows and OSX but the OSX side could not repair the disk even with the install DVD. Uh-oh.

Both sides still boot but it makes me wonder. Now I am using the Paragon Simple Backup to backup the whole drive ~160G total but it is taking hours to do.

it makes no difference if you are moaning about this giveaway or singing their praises, there is someone from Paragon actually reading all the comments good or bad, they are offering their feedback on any problems that you may have, and it is good comments they come back with, if you rubbish their programmes, they take it with a pinch of salt, not everyone on here are masters of a computer, some need and ask for help, and that is what Paragon are doing, there are not many companies who post their products on GAOTD, and give reply's to any problems, Paragon do some great bits of software, and I for one love their products, so if you need an answer to a question ask, Paragon will do their utmost to give the correct info. Carry on the GOOD work Paragon, we don't all hate your products.

To get rid of the optional hotcore driver- the easy way- would be to restore your machine using system restore (after a reboot).
If somehow your system crashes when rebooting, use safe mode and go to presented the system restore option from there.

Win XP SP 3.

Paragon has a fantastic reputation, everything they produce is stable and works.

Unfortunately everything Paragon produces is always bloated, but in this case , you have the 32 bit and 64 bit version and the Linux recovery disc.

Double clicked instal and then clicked registration which opened up there reg page in the default browser, entered details and then carried on working until the 15 mins were up and went to the email account where the email product key and reg key were waiting.

Entered details and created Linux recovery SD , a breeze.

Clicked install and entered details again, changed instal folder to where I wanted it , it is a big prog so took a couple of mins, but again instal a breeze.

Another sign of a good prog is it works out of the box without having to delve into a help file. With a Seagate 2 TB usb expansion drive , it partitioned it easily and perfectly , so simple on the gui that anyone could do it.

You might not need to use it very often, but it gets the thumbs up from me . Forget the size, good things comes to those who wait, grab it while you can.

I have a complaint about the registration page where it asks for name and e-mail. Where it asks for 'Title", the only options I had was 'Mr or Mrs' which I find an insult to the unmarried woman.

I do not know much about partitions so I need to learn before I use this software, but I am gratefull that Paragon has desided to give the program an off-line Help section. Too many companies have been making the software users to go to the company's website in order to get help for the software. Thank you Paragon and GOTD.

I never liked Partition Manager whether thats from a reputed company or freeone's. People should understand creating partition should be handled by their default OS on their machine or via a SETUP Disc, in case of Winxp and Win7 too, allocation what size and how many partition should be done from the start of installing of OS, only if their were free space on the HDD then one could use DiskManagement and allocate what size and format it.

Its a terrible stress on the Disc.
I use Mparted and Gparted to format the already created partition by the Winxp Setup disc and wouldn't alter its size by any free or commercial products.Sorry i had some bad experiences in the past, its not a thing an average Joe knows how to do it, and those who do shouldn't fiddle around too much, just keep live Mparted on your USB that would suffice.

Sorry its looks tempting almost mouth watering but but 202 mb , people think , what kind of bloat is that for a partition tool.
Dropping down on this one.
Instead, please provide some Cloning tool , their have already been an Imaging tool Giveaway in the past ,why not some reputed Cloning tool for adding a little nuanse to the Giveaway.

I love Paragon software... however, I HATE the naming and version numbering of ALL of their software. It's NOT customer friendly. I've mentioned this a hundred times before.

There's a COMPACT, HOME, PRO, SPECIAL EDITION, FREE... just to name a few. AND, internally, the version number of an "11" product might be version 10.something.

Above, Paragon mentions that this 12 HOME SE has LESS features (copying) than the 11 HOME SE that I have installed. How is a user supposed to figure this out?

Every Paragon software at GOTD ALWAYS has the same user questions... how is this version different/better/worse than the version NN that I currently have installed?

Paragon... if you NEED to have different versions at different price points, come up with a customer friendly naming/version/features product name.

Paragon: Is it possible to mount the image created with this program and to extract wanted files from it, as with Macrium Reflect? This is very important to me. I tried, but do not seem to be able to do so.

Downloaded, installed and registered without any problems. Lots of good features and easy to use. I'm quite impressed by the fact that Paragon have been good enough to reply to users queries, something you don't see very often here. Thanks guys!

I am reading a lot of comments but nothing is helping me decide whether or not to download today's Giveaway. My system is a dinosaur (XP SP3). I need to know: Do I have to reinstall after a crash the actual program before the boot/recovery CD will work? Will this work on an NTFS HD set up? If I partition my HD will I see a great improvement in memory/RAM? Thanks in advance.

Kudos to Paragon for participating here.

Any clues as to what's going on here?:

Problems:

The boot CD doesn't show me anything for an attached SATA drive where I'm trying to recover (or rebuild or copy out from) a damaged partition -- why do I not even get a disk list, let alone a partition list? *

The default CD boot just sits there at the initial Paragon blue screen (blue is a bad default color to choose! think: BSOD) and never goes any further, no blinking lights on the computer box.

Booting the CD to safer modes than default does finally show me menu choices, but every menu I double click just goes away for a while, then comes back to the same initial menu list again without having done anything, without having moved on to any next screen, without showing me the attached drive.

I can see the drive using other software maker's tools (GPartEd, HDDReg, SpinRite, even booting from floppy!), but the Paragon boot CD fails to ever show me the drive.

So, thanks for the tools, I look forward to seeing where they are appropriate, but I have not found them to be stellar or even appropriate at the moment.

* Hardware: HP AMD-Phenom-9650 2300MHz 4-core, 1GB-Ram (it's just a "mule" computer I setup for data recovery), SATA in IDE mode (versus RAID or Intel's ACHI), with 1.5GB Seagate SATA drive as 1st Drive on Ch0 M. UDMA5 (no other drives) ... I might as well attach the drive as -s-l-o-w- USB to another, working system.

I assume this works on an activation basis, like other GAOTD installs.

I'm planning to do a complete reformat, then repartition of my SSD, and reinstall of my OS soon, so it's not going to work after the reformat -- right?

Nevermind. I see the two files are exactly the same size so assume that they are the same function with different names. So if you install the PM 12 program there is no need to install the separate Recovery iso on the installation screen.
