OCR Reader is an image to text converter program that allows you to extract text from PDF, PNG, JPEG, TIFF, WEBP, and BMP files using Optical Character Recognition. This software is basically a text reader from image. It supports batch processing for PDF files with multiple pages.
While there are many OCR tools available online, some prefer a dedicated desktop tool instead. The best part of the program is that the conversion is done completely offline. You are the only controller of your private data. No image file is sent to the internet in any case.
This small and lightweight OCR tool can easily digitize image files and scanned documents on your laptop or desktop computer. It can scan documents using TWAIN and WIA scanner protocols. This application utilizes Tesseract OCR engine, which supports more than 100 languages. In order to increase accuracy, it uses a neural network (LSTM) based OCR engine which provides line recognition, but also can recognize character patterns.
You can create a selection box to recognize a specific area in your document. To do this, all you have to do is click on the image and drag the mouse to create a rectangle. Thus, the program will crop the region you selected. This will provide a more accurate conversion and speed up the process. The software supports the following OCR modes:
Read One Text Block: Processes the image as a single, uniform block of text.
Find Scattered Text: Treats the image as randomly placed lines of text.
Auto-Detect Layout and Orientation: Detects text orientation, columns.
You can detect text in one selected language or use the "Multilingual" option to detect multiple languages at once.
Trained Models Include: Arabic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Faroese, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lao, Latvian, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese.

It only reads English?

Jim Jones, press the globe icon button by the language selector to find a list of downloadable language training data, It comes pre-equipped with English language training data.... download others if you want or need to. Not sure if it displays right to left languages text correctly though.(not tested)

Installed on Win11 Pro 64x without a hitch and activated "instantly." Thanks to Vovsoft and GOTD for another handy software package! My version was/is US English and I had no language-related issues as another user states in this thread. Perhaps it's defaulting to your system (Windows) language?

This is the best OCR for Arabic I ever used or tried. I have been searching for such a tool for many years without satisfying results, including previous versions of this software. This version is 98% percent accurate with pdf and scannrd images after trying with a few files. The speed is good, even with files of several pages. Amazing!

I downloaded and installed the application in the Polish language, but.. How come, that there is no English language on the long list of languages available for OCR! And the multilanguage option fails to work as well.

Andy, English is the default language for OCR, but you can download any supported language by clicking the globe icon (in the row that starts with "Start OCR"). You can then switch between the downloaded OCR languages.

Andy, ... Download the English (default version) and the other languages would be listed. The selected language(s) file(s) are downloaded when you selct them. The menu in English has a few entries only. I hope this helps.

Andy, the reason English is NOT in the list of downloadable training data for the tesseract OCR module is that is PRE-INSTALLED by default so should not need to be downloaded again. Installing it in Polish should not have pre-downloaded and installed the Polish training data as that only controls the UI language. Just select English from the drop down language selector box if it's not already selected. I've never tried the multilingual option as I only normally deal with content in English languages. I would imagine that whatever the option does would be a compromise and would likely increase the error rate.

I just downloaded the OCR READER 4.2 installation file offered here by Giveawayofday. There were no language options to select the "English version" of OCR READER! The downloaded application, when installed offered the Polish language as the software’s default language. It is quite clear that the application found that my the default language of my Windows 10 is Polish.
How should I know, that the application’s language selection offered by OCR READER will eliminate English from available ocr languages??? In my 30+ year-experience I have not come across such ridicule feature of an application.

You are absolutely right that the multilanguage OCR option would be likely to increase the error rate. I tried this option only to check, whether the option would use also English as an OCR language. It used none of the language listed on the drop-down menu!!!
As to the settings and features of OCR READER I would not discuss the issue(s) any more. The application and its developer have been fired from my list of prospective software developers.
