OCR Reader 3.3 was available as a giveaway on September 27, 2025!
OCR Reader is an image to text converter program that allows you to extract text from PDF, PNG, JPEG, TIFF, WEBP, and BMP files using Optical Character Recognition. This software is basically a text reader from image. It supports batch processing for PDF files with multiple pages.
While there are many OCR tools available online, some prefer a dedicated desktop tool instead. The best part of the program is that the conversion is done completely offline. You are the only controller of your private data. No image file is sent to the internet in any case.
This small and lightweight OCR tool can easily digitize image files and scanned documents on your laptop or desktop computer. It can scan documents using TWAIN and WIA scanner protocols. This application utilizes Tesseract OCR engine, which supports more than 100 languages. In order to increase accuracy, it uses a neural network (LSTM) based OCR engine which provides line recognition, but also can recognize character patterns.
You can create a selection box to recognize a specific area in your document. To do this, all you have to do is click on the image and drag the mouse to create a rectangle. Thus, the program will crop the region you selected. This will provide a more accurate conversion and speed up the process.
You can detect text in one selected language or use the "Multilingual" option to detect multiple languages at once.

This is also available as a semi- portable build from the vovsoft website and it will; accept the giveaway license. Note I had an activated 3.1 portable version of this that I overwrote with current 3.3 portable and it re-used the 3.1 vovsoft license but one can edit the license if one wants the about screen to say giveaway of the day license instead of vovsoft license. It's a simple GUI for tesseract OCR engine. It offers more than the pre-installed languages by clicking on the small world+ icon button next to the language selector and the selected language will be downloaded and installed if a network connection is available.

Thanks for the lifetime license and for including the registration key in the read me file! It makes installing so much easier than some others requiring visiting websites, making accounts and waiting for multiple emails to arrive!
I do have an issue which has been plaguing me with OCR programs for a few years now so, in case anyone from the company is reading this, I will ask about it.
Is there a way to add words to the dictionaries used in this program?
I've been making a website for a bible study group and they have many pdf files which need the OCR treatment, however all the nonsense words in buy-bull talk confuse every OCR program I tried, even ABBY Fine can't handle that stupid "-eth" suffix priests made up to make things sound mystical (that stuff is not part of any spoken language, past or present!),
Or better yet, is there a dictionary for that nonsense which can be purchased and added to the software? I'd make them pay for it, so it can be expensive!
Another issue that arises is the "Illuminated" first letter of some chapters which is oversized and ornate. Sometimes those large characters confuse the 1st character of the 1st few lines they overlap.
If this program can't handle such things, does anyone know of any OCR program than can?
Thanks for any advice anyone may have.

David Jaynes, I would suggest the bible study group find someone else that does not look upon the work with contempt.... This program uses tesseract OCR engine so it is possible but not built into the OCR programs to retrain the OCR engine for any text in any language and not simply use a dictionary of valid words... Sample5.pdf provided has Latin filler text for two pages of the PDF document and even in English language tesseract correctly OCR's the Latin text just fine even though not one word is in the English training data so it should not have any problems with anglicised translation of Hebrew and Greek IF the material is in a consistent font...
I personally can't see why you would need to OCR any bibles as virtually every translation has already been transcribed into searchable ASCII and Unicode forms and is freely available online and in programs!
