For something like this, VeraCrypt is so secure, that I doubt anyone in Australia could break it.

What I'd like to know (and maybe others would like to know) is there any protection if the program crashes in getting your locked contents. Also what happens after the license expires, does it mean that the program stops working?.

last program That I had with a one year license was an icon maker that erased my icons that I already made. and made me go online when it wasn't necessary. It pissed me off and It was absolutely unnecessary with it's behavior it's a bad.business model. I will not be treated like that again. So every time I see a program that runs on that model I'll just skip the program completely. At least Keresh Doctor kept working when the license expired I'll buy that program it works well and they treat people better. This one will is running the same model so before I lose all my critically important passwords before it runs out I'll just avoid it completely.I'm not a spy like on mission impossible and don't won't my files to discombobulate after one year or pay a yearly ransom...

What happens when the one year license runs out? Do I have to pay to renew license to access the data that is "locked" in my password protected folder?

Wicked Lester, it probably means that if the program is "updated" some way (remember, it used to be version 2.0 then version 3.0 etc etc
etc) you will be allowed to download the updates for only one year. After one year do NOT download ANY update since it will automatically make your program shareware (u will have to pay for it). People who r used to downloading from GOTD usually do NOT download ANY update. It may turn the program to a shareware. Best to wait until it comes up for free again then download it again (but remember to uninstall the old one). I've been doing that for YEARS. But some r so good I pay for it so I won't have to go thru the hassle every year.

Wicked Lester, I wouldn't DL a information sensitive program like password storage on a 1 year trial basis.

I did install this program in Win10.
Also I did install the extra for Removable drives.
And I made a hidden map on a USB-drive:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/a45l75aqc0sfd5m/HideFolderExt-Start-2.png

https://www.dropbox.com/s/b56u8rp83la2n5r/HideFolderExt-Start-5.png
And continued with the install of the GOTD-program.
I did made a map on a USB:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/i0d5uwhtid2q0eu/MapSelectie.png
And put some files etc in it.
After closing Windows I took the USB to a newly installed Win7 and could easily open the map:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bk43ivgfhazipmi/Win7nieuw.png
After restarting the Win10, I also could open the protected map on the internal drive.
Maybe I made mistakes: test this software very good, if you want to use it and want to be safe.
Also start you PC with a live Linux-CD/USB and test if you can look in that folder and read the files.

The 1-year license does seem to be a disadvantage for those unwilling to purchase the program.

7-Zip is a free utility which includes the option to zip up (compress) any file or folder with or without AES 256-bit encryption. After initially selecting an encryption level (256-bit is the strongest/safest) you need only type in any password you want and the file/folder is then protected. After that, you need only type a password each time you want to encrypt something. Simple, easy, good protection and, best of all, free.

was wondering what the difference is between this and Safehouse Explorer. Been using SE for some time on main drive and also on flash drives. no problems at all.

clas, Me too.I did not find any indication of the password security level. ie: AES. Also Safehouse can be used portable on a flash drive.

What if the period expires, all files might gone?

Reply   |   Comment by dudi  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+28)

dudi, maybe you can use a demo to read the files.
Most of the time this will work.
And most of the tine you cannot encrypt new files.

Reply   |   Comment by Ootje  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-4)

When the period expires, it will still protect your files.
When you open My Lockbox, it will go into free mode. One folder (tagged as Lockbox ) will be protected.
All the other folders will become unlocked.
You will have several options:
- continue using free version which protects one top level folder (and unlimited number of subfolders).
- purchase a subscription for My Lockbox Pro.
- purchase lifetime license for My Lockbox Pro.

There is a free version of the program though it does have some limitations. You can check it out here...

Depending on your needs the free version may suit you. At least it won't expire

Dadams, your link works perfectly. Unfortunately the links on the site don't.

Hmm Thanks but I'll pass ;)

The last thing anyone that truly needs this type of app wants is a subscription based solution which expires its protection if you don't pay up again

Although I am only comfortable using VeraCrypt to encrypt my personal data I just wanted to applaud GAOTD and/or the developer for clearly listing that this came with a one-year license. So many giveaways simply expire without notice which is very frustrating. Just hope that one day this info would be part of the normal description of each offer. Thanks.

Zarf, I had that happen to me with a giveaway, it expired without notice or foreword.

I use Veracrypt containers so no need for this, thanks anyway.

"... I am only comfortable using VeraCrypt to encrypt my personal data..."

"I use Veracrypt containers so no need for this..."

Actually while not Industrial Strength so-to-speak, My Lockbox Pro Personal might still be used with Veracrypt & similar in a complementary fashion, hiding the existence of encrypted archives or VHDs.

I think the old Truecrypt method of hiding the encrypted VHD inside another, populated encrypted VHD [e.g. one with Windows installed] would likely hold up better to scrutiny by skilled people, e.g. a forensics pro, but My Lockbox Pro Personal *might* suffice if/when they're less skilled. And if someone only has remote access rather than physical hands-on, e.g. when compromised by cybercriminals, they're not going to be able to do stuff like boot to a USB drive.
