I tried "MSTech Folder Icon Pro" although I never received a registration code. I still prefer the "FREE" program "Folder Magic" by "Cloudeight". The biggest difference other than cost is that "MSTech Folder Icon Pro" has an Icon Creation feature and "Folder Magic" does not. There are plenty of "FREE" programs for Icon Creation, such as, "GIMP" and "Paint.Net", assuming you have the artistic abilities that I simply don't have.

Many of the comments are about having trouble with the installation, or the icon packs being inaccessible. Yet the program has an 85% positive vote?

Not going to install.

David, This happened to me too. When I restarted the computer, everything was back to normal. Since it went straight back, I left it installed.

Won't install. Error Code 6. File is missing or corrupt. Downloaded twice and tried four times to install; same problem.

Many of the free icon packs are zipped in a format known as FSD_PACK.

I am unable to open them with Windows Explorer. Did anyone here get the icons out of these compressed files and if so how?

My challenge to this developer have you devised a way to customise a folders icon BUT still retain the showing of tiny thumbnail summary of the folders photo or video or album art contents which is normally lost when one customises the folder icon on folders containing photos and videos and music?

Unable to install. During Setup the application insists that Microsoft .NET Framework 4.52 or higher is required. I have Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.50709. I gave the software the benefit of a doubt and followed the prompts to download the recommended version of .NET Framework - downloaded it - tried to install it - installation aborts because the "Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4 Client Profile has already been installed on this computer'. Very frustrating.

Jason, please read https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/migration-guide/how-to-determine-which-versions-are-installed to determine the TRUE version number of your installed .NET framework as 4.5.50709 is not a released .NET framework version number. Feel free to disclose how you came up with the .NET Framework version number you feel you have installed. Hopefully once you have a MS sanctioned .NET Framework version number it may be possible to figure out what went wrong or enable the developer to fix their installer if that is where the problem lies. I have expirenced a similar problem when trying to fix a broken .NET framework and trying to install a fresh copy over the top fails because the installed broken framework is a similar version but not the identical MSI file... I had to use a .NET removal tool and re-install from scratch. The specifics of which escape me as it was several years ago and I have slept since then.

Hi TK thank you for your comments and advice. I was in a bit of a rush when I was doing all of this so I determined the .net version number via Add/Remove screen - I now realise that this was the wrong thing to do. I'm pretty sure I have v4.0.30319 (confirmed by
using the command line dir %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework /AD as well as by manual inspection of the .Net folder itself (C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework64). I then tried the free .Net Checker application featured at smallestdotnet.com and this determined that I have version 4.5.1 on my system (which I'm pretty sure is wrong). I guess I run the .Net removal tool next, then run the setup application again - presumably it will direct me to the version I require. By the time I've done all this, the free offer will be expired ... but at least I learned something. J

Jason, the framework folder version is not the actual version installed 4.5.1 sounds likely, I have 4.6.2 installed which is the highest version supported by Windows Vista SP2 if you have Windows 7 or above you could go back to the smallestdotnet.com website and try downloading the web installer for .NET 4.7.2
You have the installer for this giveaway after you have installed 4.7.2 assuming you have WIn7 or above retry installing and see if it lets you this time.

Agree with program going to system tray and not closing. Also, clicking or double clicking the icon in the tray does not bring the program back on.

Also, I cannot get the shell integration to work. Right clicking on a folder does list "Open MSTech Icon Folder Pro" but clicking on it either does nothing or brings up a small window asking if I want to open MSTech Folder Icon. When clicking on yes, I get the windows warning asking if I want to allow the program to change my device, then after choosing yes, nothing happens. I have tried restarting my computer.

Any Help from anyone getting this to work?

Not intuitive but has a lot of options so I am keeping.

Seems to work on Win 10 Pro; I like the icon choices

Hit return too quick.
Wanted to add that I am comparing to Stardock's Iconpackager, which I had used in the past. This program (MSTech) seems much easier to use and I can easily change just one icon without having to deal with applying an entire set change.

Thank you GOTD & MSTech for the offer.

I give this a try, it was a bit confusing on a few things like how to install the free icon packs, it calls for a specific format to install the packs but what you download from the site are .png's in a zip folder. There's no mention of it but I figured out what you have to do is select the CREATE function and add them yourself to install them.

For me the reason I uninstalled was because the application is set to autorun at startup, which wouldn't be that big of a deal normally but the memory usage when running in tray without the software open was showing around 127-129 MB's, that's a bit too much in my opinion for a software that just changes folder icons.

While I get I can disable the automatic startup that's added, the problem is when you use the software and exit it it automatically remains in the tray, which I do realize you can right click on it and select close at that point, it just seems like too many steps to change an icon when I can simply create one and add it myself with a simple right click and select/apply.

Thanks again for the opportunity.
