One of the programme's startpages says
that you must state the path of your ffmpeg.exe

If you don't have this you must download it,
install it, and inform the programme so it can find it

MovieJack looks like an interesting alternative to the ubiquitous 4k Downloader - and it would be if it worked as advertised.
The software claims to have all the usual: multiple stream downloads, playlists, MP3 convertor and HD downloads (although anything more than 720p requires a link to FFMPEG).
The process for acquiring a licences is convoluted and requires you to sign up for an e-mail newsletter. I have little faith that this will not open my email up to a load of spam...
The interface is so stripped back as to be almost intimidating. It's not immediately obvious that once you have pasted a URL you must click on the '+' button to add it to the software's download queue and then hit another button to initiate the download.
Once the software is registered it immediately offers to update to the latest version. Fair enough, but its capabilities are still woeful.
I tried downloading a couple of dozen Youtube videos and received an error message every time (except once when, for no obvious reason, the software ran perfectly. A Vimeo video did download but 4k Downloader does it all so much better than this woeful effort.
Sorry but this is one Ripper that should have stayed dead...

Nice app. Does not work on YouTube though even though website claims it does.
Easy install and registration.

Ok, after doing some checking, it seems that _some_ Youtube videos can be downloaded but not all. It looks like music videos are blocked, but I was able to download some 'personal' videos from others no problem.

My guess is Youtube has some type of blocking system...

For the videos I was able to download it worked well, so it's not the programs issue, it's Youtube.

Stewart Wallace, the code was shown on the screen when you asked for it. Did you not see it there? Try registering again and look on the screen.

Illinois Fritz,
No, no code shown. I'd expected it from the read me file, although the registration request only mentioned code sent by email. Still nothing, so looks like an uninstall.

Youtube and Dailymotion worked fine in my short test, on Vimeo it stated "pending" for so long, that i aborted the download.

I expect the same for videos on both other sites, it's a trial&error basically but i don't have time to waste figuring out which downloads work and which don't.

It's a matter of reliability and MovieJack doesn't offer that. So it's time to move on.

Mickey DiNero, did you copy and paste the key and then close the program? Does it still show the wrong date?

If so, try to reregister it and use whatever new code you get.

Reply   |   Comment by Illinois Fritz  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Illinois Fritz, I did as you suggested & it showed the correct date, June 22, 2020. Thanks a lot. I've been using savefrom.net (especially for YouTube vids), a couple Chrome download apps & another on Comodo, with pretty good results, but I'm always looking for better.

The introduction write up mentions several formats that are supported. "You Tube" is not mentioned as being supported.

What formats have you tried to download?

Well. I guess I must be the only person, so far, to post something positive about this software program. I've been using an earlier version, 3.0.something for some time now and it will periodically update (like today) and it works fine for my needs. I simply copy the URL of a YouTube video I might be watching and paste into the application......bang it downloads and I have a copy for offline viewing, etc. I seem to recall this is available here somewhat often or at least often enough to upgrade and not worry about the license expiring. Now how does it compare to the various other "downloader" apps? Well, there are others that also work great but then again this is also free today so I'll chance a download and give it a spin and upgrade my previous version.

Derek Lawler, I completely agree with you. In my comments earlier today, I mention two others, because they are free. Comparing them to MovieJack as being better. Allasoft isn't, free but it puts all the other downloaders to shame. IMO: it's truly the best of all.

Works on a variety of sites and the support generally address issues reported (with software updates) as quickly as possible. Functions are quite limited, offering only video download and convert download to mp3 (at download time only). Program crashes when video is not in mp4 format, example mpe, mpg and webex formats cause crashes every time.

I used this software some time ago, about 3 years are so. I wasn't impressed with it and in less than a day, I deleted it. There is far better free video downloaders than MovieJack. If you look for reviews like I did. you'll find more negative then positive.

If your looking for video downloaders try, aTube Catcher, it works for sites like YouTube, Facebook, Dailymotion, Vimeo. If you want one that works on almost everything and anywhere (adult included) try, JDownloader.

Apparently reviews suggest it's only good for Youtube and is nowhere as good as Any Video Converter which is free.

Reply   |   Comment by michael askey  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+23)

michael askey, Yeah - the Amazon reviews I looked at were pretty off-putting.

Reply   |   Comment by David J Wilson  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+15)

michael askey,

I downloaded the setup file for Any Video Converter, but VirusTotal scan produced some suspicious results. So despite my original enthusiasm, I have decided to stay away from Any Video Converter.

Anyways, thank you for your comment.

Cheers,

consuella

consuella, Yes, it does ring up a false positive for some reason. If it was anything bad it wouldn't be supported by so many good freeware sites and any reviews would also notify us. However I run both Malwarebytes and adwcleaner which gets rid of anything suspicious.
