The fact pointed out by #10 worries me, who knows what is included in the " interactive Internet applications that perform a variety of communications over the Internet as part of its normal operation. A number of communications features are automatic and are enabled by default."
With this kind of vague non-specific statement, there's no limit to the number or variety of actions the software may actually be doing!

And with the addition of this statement "Once You have activated the SOFTWARE, user information including Your user id will be sent in communications with mediAvatar Software Studio servers. This information is used to perform a background check against mediAvatar Software Studio license servers. You are responsible for any telecommunications or other connectivity charges incurred through use of the SOFTWARE."
This can easily be used to invade a person's privacy to a practically unlimited degree and exploit any part of that person's personal information to any degree and in any way anybody with access to the servers or the software's data collecting features wants to.

The legal system already has procedures in place for getting copies of any & all relevant records and data needed during a criminal investigation process. Should there be any reason for need to report someone doing something such as using the software to obtain child porn, there are already legitimate sites established where anybody can report a child porn incident such as:
http://www.fbi.gov/innocent.htm
http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/PageServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US&PageId=2936
http://www.asacp.org/index.php?content=report

What good purpose would there be for a software developer to want to be able to perform background checks at will on anybody else who ever uses their software?
There's no reason to require any law abiding citizen to agree to unlimited collection of data, background checks, or other such invasion of privacy!!!!

I agree with #3. It is so far the easiest youtube downloader, converter with an integrated youtube browser. I use it to convert youtube videos for my ipad, and the quality is brilliant.

@#1 Tall53, To view the videos on your PS3 you just click on one of the PS3 modes. Use PS3 DivX or MPEG4 Video should also work because it is a .MP4 file.

This is a pretty cool tool. Just be sure to go to Tools then Settings then untick "Check for Updates Automatically."

It's a tool I will seldom use but I am glad to have it.

In response to #16, if you are looking for software with that you can upgrade forever, try lifetimeupgrades.com. They have tons of it and you don't have to surf the around the web. They only advertise software with a lifetime upgrade.

Many thanks to Anon I Muse for post no. 8 about the AUTOMATIC COMMUNICATIONS FEATURES in the EULA.

Part of the EULA states: [This software performs]...a variety of communications over the Internet as part of its normal operation...Your user id will be sent...You are responsible for any telecommunications or other connectivity charges incurred through use of the [this] SOFTWARE."

Potential liabilities like my user i.d. being used for god knows what and potentially unlimited connectivity charges keep me from even thinking about downloading and installing this program.

Good luck to those who do.

@Merryl There's a setting that allows you to turn off automatic updates.

I haven't tried it but if it does conversion I suspect one could download files from Google or elsewhere using another program like the Net Video Hunter plugin then convert.

• No Video Quality selection to download built in - must launch in browser
• No Animated Thumbnails to identify video content
• No ability or compatibility with multi-thread high speed downloaders
(DAP/Orbit/FDM etc...)

Those are must-have, common sense features for any YT video Searcher/Downloader

I've found it easier, simpler, and free to use Chrome Browser with a couple free extensions...

YouTube Thumbs by hilmilho (animates YT thumbnails when moused over)
YouTube Downloader by flaviobayer (adds drop-down button with list of available qualities and formats to click and DL)

I downloaded this app at 12am, and I like it, but when I check it this morning, I see only 30% like it. I know Keepvid can download video from youtube for free, but a lazy person like me, I like this program because I just need 1-click then it can be downloaded and save as the format I want. (win7 32-bit)

mediAvatar YouTube Video Converter is a nice, polished Youtube downloader/converter with both extra baggage & limitations. Like the free VideoCacheView from Nirsoft, watching a Youtube video, mediAvatar copied the temporary .flv file stored/cached in the user temp folder. And just like VideoCacheView, mediAvatar couldn't recognize or save the video of the NCSIS episode playing on the network's site. What mediAvatar adds is a nice program window with built-in browser & video converter -- part of the price is a bit of baggage added to Windows [in comparison VideoCacheView is fully portable], & a converter without the customizable profiles you're probably used to. Both the impact to Windows & the lack of customization will bother some & not others, & I think where you stand in that debate determines whether you'll love or hate today's GOTD.

I couldn't get a look at what the setup file for mediAvatar YouTube Video Converter includes, but it can install the Flash player & it can install a couple of the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime setups. It can also modify your Internet Explorer installation, though it didn't add anything to the browser itself that I saw. I have had all 3 cause problems in the past, though the majority of the time they're OK, & both the Flash & C++ runtime installs are fairly common... my personal perspective is why take any chance you don't have to, but that's me. The mediAvatar Youtube Converter uses the common ffmpeg code libraries, so the video you export should be roughly the same as other converters, but you're not given details about the profiles [& can't change them anyway] so be careful -- a 55MB .flv set to be saved as .flv wound up being 300MB when done. You *May* be able to set the profiles to what you want by editing the xml files, e.g. "mp4.pf" in the program's "Profiles" folder.

The app itself takes up ~ 55MB in 777 files, 27 folders, with one folder added under [UserName] \ App Data. The C++ runtime installs, if needed & run, add about 3 dozen files, most in Windows' WinSxS folder, plus quite a few registry adds -- ideally installing these runtimes is a one-time thing, but in my experience it's too rarely worked that way, with what appeared identical versions installed to different folders, next to existing C++ runtimes. Total registry additions, installing the app, runtimes, & Flash player were close to 600, but your mileage will likely vary depending on what's already installed.

All in all I like the looks of mediAvatar YouTube Video Converter & the easy way it works, but *for me* the price in terms of impact isn't worth the benefits, & without being able to customize or set new profiles, the conversion part [again, to me] is next to useless. It's not so much the setup is *that* bad, as it is a feeling of "why bother?"

#12, JUNIOIR, The last screen magnifier GOTD gave away a couple of months ago or so included a feature that made the screen go negative - so black text on a white background appeared vice versa. This would be ideal for you as you could turn every interface into a dark screen. I have searched Google quickly for freeware that does this but cannot find any. If you downloaded the last screen magnifier given away here (or if GOTD offer it again) then this will be ideal for you.

Re the "always updates" feature....

I'm not positive this will solve the problem vis-a-vis GAOTD, but it's worth a try:

Load the program. On the menu under Tools, select Settings, and uncheck the bottom checkbox under Update Settings > Check for Updates Automatically. Click on either OK or Apply, depending on whether or not you want to change additional settings.

Downloaded and installed to vista with ease.
Appreciate the registration process, just copy and paste, process is user friendly. I don't like those programmes that need to give emailaddress and go to certain website.

This programme is good for those who wish to select the download file types. You can save clips as avi, ipod movies, flv, etc. Flv being smaller in size is good for skate fans like me. I use mobile phone HTC HD2 to watch figure skating clips. File size and good quality are important.

Like this programme because to manage the files is easy. The filename downloaded is the same as per the title in youtube.

Thanks Team Giveaway of the Day, and mediAvatar Software Studio.

awesome browser, also for those who are saying that you can't sign in, you can. Just click the black box and type your username and password (the black box just makes it so you can't see it) and press enter and it will load. I tried it with Gmail and it works as well...also very nice browser though the download speed is really slow...

The one problem I see here is

1. "always updates with YouTube’s change" and
2. "No free upgrades to future versions"

Many of the GOTD programs update automatically and as such lose their freeness, reverting back to a trial version with limited use or time of use. If this program is going to update itself with each YouTube change, is this indicative of the free GOTD license being lost?

To use this program as full user, you should click on Help/About, then click on the blue link on the bottom for registration messagebox & enter the registration codes.

The program itself is done very well in my opinion. This is the first program which:
=> can really download & convert all movies from Youtube;
=> is constantly updated to fit Youtube's requirements;
=> can convert previously downloaded movies [so we have free converter] - this is important, not many downloader can do that;
=> does NOT contain any unwanted toolbars or annoying spy-like tools included & silently installed without our permission (one example.
When downloading from Youtube this is all-you-need.

I have tested & this is true that it only supports Youtube. Google Videos or metacafe didn't worked for me. In my opinion this program should try to download them as an optional feature without warranty, like DownloadHelper in Firefox. This is the only "lack" I have found in today's program, but it was mentioned, so the author is still fair.

And please remember that downloading videos without the author's permission is illegal ;-)

Impressed, rarely have I found a program that is so easy to use straight away. The learning curve is smooth and shallow and I'm not the sharpest knife in the box.
Fast conversation rate to lots of formats, most I'll never use but nice to have them there just in case.
I particularly like that it records from the start of the download even if you start the recording in the middle and completes the whole download if you stop it before the end.
I'd recommend it for casual users like myself, as for more intensive work, I'll leave that review to the experts.
Thank you Giveaway of the Day and especially Mediavatar for such a easy to use program and free too :)

I like this so far. It's a youtube browser, downloader and converter.
you can't sign in to your youtube account, though---the link is there but fields are blacked out, but, so what.
I've downloaded and converted a couple of songs to mp3 and they sound great.
I used to download from youtube with realplayer downloader but youtube changed some from .flv (flash video) to .swf, which realplayer can't download, so this prgram works out great and it hasn't crashed so far, either (unlike another video finder I had once). Running on custom XP,athlon. I haven't converted any videos yet.
