I'm so glad I came back today to read the comments on this one. Hilarious!! Not only are the comments from angry gnomes funny, the fact that people will bicker with strangers on the Internet over a screensaver.

Anyway, I didn't download this one yesterday for two reasons:

1) I don't use screensavers on my laptop and my desktop is so ancient it would fall apart if I tried to install anything else on it.

2) I have a gnome obsession so I would never get any work done. I would end up sitting there and staring at my screen waiting for it to kick on.

Ignore the haters, GOTD. Lots of us appreciate what you and your software partners are offering even if we don't download.

What's that saying about not being able to please everyone?

I was actually talked into this one by by girlfriend, who thought it was cute. So, following the instructions to the very letter (as I have with everything else I've downloaded from GAOTD), I then found that it simply didn't work, despite having adequate system resources. This one is a complete waste of bandwidth and still too expensive even when given away.

Very cute and adorable scenery. The dwarf could look a bit happier, Disney style if you will, but overall it is good. Someone put a lot of imagination into it. Do not forget, fantasy type screensavers are for fun, not for reality. Do not confuse the 2, thus if you do not like dwarfs then just pass it by, but you do not have to chew it out and give it thumbs down. It is a matter of preference. However, I love your site, Giveawayoftheday, so thank people!!!!!!

I am guilty. Guilty of downloading this and watching it for 15 minutes straight. Guilty of enjoying the relaxing, enchanting and comforting views while pondering over some of the quotes. (If my roommate catches me watching this, he will think I've truly went off the deep end.) I did not see any kittens, that would of been a great addition, like another poster said. Also, it would be nice to see who is attributed to some of these rather deep quotes. I normally eschew the frivolity of screensavers, but I thought looking at a little home in the forest would be comforting and relaxing while I listened to my medtation/ chill out CDs. This is my first screensaver download and my first 3D screensaver and I am very impressed with the animation. Be forewarned that this not a dwarf but rather a gnome and I would like to see the facts on dwarves changed to factoids on gnomes along with the appropriate product name change. Keep up the good work GaOTD.

#68 I totally agree with you. Screensavers things aren't my "thing" either (mostly beause they always screw up defrag scans and the like...come on at the most inopportune time) - but SO WHAT? A lot of people don't like anchovies, or watch soccer.... but a lot of others - do. There's nothing wrong with a little distraction and a free screensaver on a lazy Sunday seems like a pretty good deal to me, even if the Gnome or whatever he is looks like Santa Clause and not some evil demon...

In response to the liitle dude who wrote #64. Maybe the big people make fun of you because you went of in search of the quest for the pot of gold. Why not just save yourself the trouble and look for the pot of gold? Better yet, here's your quest so you won't have to keep looking for it. Go find a pot of gold or a box of Lucky Charms. Their magically delicious.

I LOVE IT! Thank you GAOTD for posting this one. Normally, I only use my PC for work. I work on my PC 14 to 18 hours per day. So, when I purchase software, usually I am only looking for software that will make my jobs easier or more productive. I have never actually thought of indulging in something like this for myself. But, after this download, I must admit I am thinking differently now.

Because I am use my PC so much, recently I have been having troubles with a repetitive strain condition that forces me to take breaks due to the pain in my hand. Often, I forget or take shorter and fewer breaks than I should until the pain becomes so unbearable that I am forced to stop.

Having this screen saver has helped a lot. I have never had a 3D screen saver before, and this one is so very cute and entertaining that I look forward to seeing it. Now, I stop regularly and take my breaks while running through my hand exercises. The convenient clock on the screen saver helps me stick to a full 15 minute break. When I return to work, my hand and my mind are both refreshed.

I will purchase more 3D screen savers in the future. But, I would never have known how useful they can be had it not been for this free download.

By the way, it really drives me nuts when people complain about something that is offered to them for free. First of all, GAOTD doesn’t charge for access to this site, and then on top of that they have worked with software companies to offer free downloads for people to try their products. I personally think that’s pretty darn terrific all around.

This particular screensaver in no way appeals to me.

However, I was actually looking at the solar system 3d screensaver...I might actually consider buying it if it weren't ridiculously expensive... 19.95 is way too much to pay for any kind of screensaver. However... I do understand that the demand for screensavers that are not free is very small, and those who are willing to pay for them are generally willing to pay $20 for them... in other words, lowering the price to $5 would not generate enough new buyers for it to warrant the price decrease.

But I'm still not paying for it :)

The whimsical comments made it worthwhile, especially the comments from the Little People. Usually the comments here are boring, but not today. The wee folk inspired you! I bought a garden gnome calendar last year because I like kitsch and because it seriously irked my husband. Revenge for the backwards clock!

Well, I really don't use screen savers - I prefer to just have my monitors turn off after a certain amount of time - however this one is very nice. I also occasionally turn on the Winter 3D screen saver from Astro. When it's 100 degrees the winter one seems to make it just a bit cooler.

I really don't see what the baroohaha is all about - this installed easily (Win XP) and uninstalling the Astro screen saver manager was equally easy (I use the FREE ScreenSaver Commander http://www.bdvnotepad.com/ ).

It's fun for the occasional viewing (if you have the HD space - almost 18 mb), and if you don't want it just don't download it (nobody is twisting your arm). This tested neg. for spyware and didn't hog my system resources, so if you want a bit of fun occasionally from a program, then go for it.

BTW, if you need a good FREE uninstaller (with 4 levels of uninstall) check out REVO uninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/ )

Thanks, GAOTD.

Note to comment number 64: I suspect the people at Astro Gemini don't have anything against the wee little people, as such. It is just that they wouldn't know the difference between a dwarf and a gnome if one bit them on the bum (which, of course, is unlikely to happen if one annoys a dwarf, and is highly likely to happen if one offends a gnome). Little "Dwarf 3D Screensaver" is, of course, gross misrepresentation. However, litigation is unlikely ... bad spells are far more likely ... and are much more frightening. Tee hee!

Thanks for the info eeZee comment #31.

As for those who can't understand why someone would want to run any sort of screensaver. Well, personally I sometimes have up to three computers on at any one time; working on different projects or whatever. It's nice to be able to see some pleasant screensaver while I work on one of the other computers. I'll often sit back and watch an animation, or marvel at the intricacy of the mechanical clock. Many screensavers are beautiful constructions that I expect the making of will improve drastically as time goes by. Something I anticipate with glee.

There's nothing like an imaginary journey over fields and seascapes, or watching a water spout move around a stormy sea. The solar system screensavers are amongst my favorites, though screensavers such as the dark castle, discovery, watermill and the mechanical clock, as well as the Nautilus are as interesting. I've paid for several screensavers and have never regretted buying any of them; they have all given me much pleasure and have been well worth the money. I could easily spend more than the cost of a few screensaver by going out for a drink or a meal, whose pleasures are transitory.

I don’t get the negativity of the community towards screensavers. Apart from some of the first screensavers they always seem to get a poor rating, though there are obviously quite a few community members happy with them.

Now what in the bloody bath of Sister Mary do you folk have against wee little people such as meself? Ever since I've left the village in search of me quest for the pot o' gold I've encountered nothin' but heckles from the big people. Now, I reckon if you folk were only 4 centimeters tall and were trippin' all over four leaf clover as I do, you wouldn't find this a wee bit funny. If anyone here's got somethin' aginst us wee little people, I'd suggest you take it outside, or I'll put the curse of the old magid wumpus upon you!

How much do I love this FREE Download? What is better than a gnome? Nothing. This screensaver is the most adorable thing I have seen in years and was totally worth it. If you like sunshine, kittens, and yard gnomes this screensaver is for you. The only thing better would be if the gnome had a kitten instead of a bird. The music kinda drills into the brain a bit but can be muted in the configure box. Yes, even I couldn't handle that much cuteness all in one screensaver. All in all, this screensaver will bring a smile to your face and put a lil more sunshine in your heart!

I look forward to coming here everyday to see what is offered.
Even though I don't need this screensaver, as soon as I saw it offered I could not wait to see the uproar in the comments. I wasn't disappointed.
Why do people get so upset. It's free. Don't like it don't take it. I said this before. If you liked each days software, where the hell would you put it. 365 offerings a year. You like some you don't like some. That's it.

Anyone who likes this can't have a clue what a good one is! Why don't you folks try "Marine Aquarium 2.6 + Time" or "Dream Aquarium?"? Don't get me wrong, everybody won't like fish tanks. It's just so folks will know what a good screensaver is compared to this junk!

@ #39 mev1296 - I can't tell what's more pathetic, the fact that you feel the need to brag about how much money you make and how happy your kids are, or that you're doing it while bashing another user.

Just because he has in opinion on the screen saver doesn't give you the right to call him out and insult him about it.

On the other hand, Ken Kelly: 1. Learn how to spell and 2. Mev does have a point on the fact that it keeps kids entertained, though I'm not condoning his immature behavior.

I don't normally comment but something serious has arisen that has forced me to write. First, I suspect "little dwarf" is a logical tautology. Secondly, and of even greater concern, the pictures that accompanies this weekend's GAOTD software are quite clearly of gnomes, not dwarfs (and certainly not pixies)!

Gnomes get easily offended and there'll be trouble under the toadstool if this isn't sorted out!

For one thing, the dwarf is hard to control (strafing doesn't work.) And the AI is pretty bad. I can't seem to activate the alternate weapons (grenades and thermite charges.) Will keep trying though. Has anyone else had trouble getting past the T-rex?

#6 - Thanks for that link to Smith Micro - they have some interesting programs there.

Sundays are always screensaver days here, so there's no need to complain about them. Some people like them, some don't. The nice thing is that they are offered to those of us who like them without having to PAY for them, so that makes them just as valuable as those programs that others like which they also don't have to PAY for here. Which, after all, is the whole point of this site - to make a wide variety of programs available to get consumers to try them out, and to give the companies that provide them a public relations boost. :-)

To Ken Kelly, I happen to like screensavers just like other people do. It's not just a matter of running them when I'm not at my pc. They can be relaxing depending on what they are. I made several with family pics, scenery pics and fantasy pics along with music backgrounds with the Wondershare Photo Story software that was given away here and they turned out beautifully, and the family pic one made a great xmas present to my family who I haven't seen in years.
So, my point is, just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's no good, other people have different views on things.
As for this one, I don't like Astro Gemini's screensavers very much and don't like the screensaver manager at all but I installed the little dwarf and will keep it a while, he's kinda cute. Their manager will not stay for sure though.

#18 Ken Kelly - Before you open your mouth and spout off you need to realize that some of us have kids who absolutely love screensavers. It keeps them busy and entertained, it puts a smile on their faces and it makes them laugh and dance. One of the best things is a child's laughter. My kids loved the Halloween screensaver given away awhile back amongst others. I assure you there is nothing wrong with my head my friend. I make alot of money, my kids are very happy, and the only thing strange is the fact that you have nothing better to do than to bash others this early on a Sunday morning.

As for todays screensaver I will pass on it as the kids didn't seem to interested in it but thanks again for another giveaway. Just remember this is NOT a nation of Ken Kelley's. It is a diverse, great nation with values and opinions that differ from yours.
Well I'm gonna go spend time with my kids now and watch them laugh and play. Thanks again GAOTD and Astro Gemini!
