Corrections to my first post

I'm finding too many restrictions for Leawo Video Converter 7.6
I can't convert a file to 1920 x 1080 as 1024 x 768 is the maximum resolution for all formats even when the source file is 1920 x 1080.
The MP3 video is limited to 256k so I can't get the maximum audio quality. In AAC it's limited to 192k.

There is a useful Download video from the internet feature but it's limited to 5 videos in the trail version. I suspect even if you brought the program this download feature with be an extra cost.

Some controls such such altering the video resolution are very difficult to find.

You are also limited to the choices of video formats to convert to.

I wish this program did not have so many limits as without these limits this would be a good product.

Brian,

Also the "custom" button does not seem to work for this program when you try to recall a saved custom of settings..

Does this remove DRM?

Chris Mayhew,

No... Leawo has separate products for DVD & Blu-ray for example that can handle the included DRM.

A review of the software itself ? Who would have thought................

Kept the format, just added a picture as watermark - the resulting video was completely out of sync.

I'll stick with Avidemux.

Wayne Interessierts,

"the resulting video was completely out of sync."

You might want to provide details, e.g. the format of the original audio/video to Leawo support. It's unusual for one of their apps.

"I'll stick with Avidemux."

Nothing wrong with that -- there's a new version out today BTW, & it's also available in a portable version @ videohelp[.]com. Both AviDemux & Leawo Video Converter use ffmpeg however, meaning that with the same input & output there should be no difference in the results. AviDemux focuses on simple editing -- Leawo Video Converter provides presets for lots of common devices & may be easier to use.

mike, I gave it another try. Converting a 1280 x 720 AC3 48 kHz TS file to a 1280 x 720 TS file with the Leawo TS template. The sound was downsampled to 44,1 kHz AAC first. Fiddeling with the audio settings to keep it at 48 kHz didn't solve the out of sync issue though.

I'm using the latest Avidemux version for Windows 64 bit since January 6th by the way. :-)

I have installed several Leawo video products in the past. I have always uninstalled them after a brief use. The reason is that so far all of them insist on being the default application for whatever they are supposed to do, and if I turn that off it will reset itself. I have emailed tech support about this problem and have yet to receive a response. For this reason I will not be installing this software. Good luck to those who do and I hope it works well for you.

I received the popup that said, 'setup files are corrupted, please obtain a new copy.'

In the readme, it states that I have to open the gcd file but do not know what that is and don't trust downloading one set of files to be able to download another set of files. Frustrating that GOTD doesn't just let you set up their software. Most people like me are not computer savvy.

Reply   |   Comment by Kelty  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-15)

Kelty,

Maybe if you read the instructions properly you would find that they do not instruct you to "open" the gcd file., neither does it download another set of files.
You don't have to be tech savvy to read simple instructions.
The files being corrupted is most likely caused by your anti virus and instructions for getting past that obstruction are given here on almost a daily basis.

Nigel,

MAYBE you could have been nice about your comment instead of being sarcastic! MAYBE, you should not have replied at all. What I AM, totally sure of, you didn't bring a smile in this person's day!

While I get hundreds of minuses (-) because my comment is irrelevant to the software, may I remind everyone, that human beings are still behind those screens, with real emotions, operating those computer systems (some better than others) and downloading those free software.

Weezie,

The comments I made were not sarcastic, just plain facts. Too many people complain about programs here when they simply do not read the instructions. This person claimed to have read them then still got the facts wrong and complained.

Have used Leawo products in the past...while not too bad in the myriad of converters out there...
I still find Freemake to be the only one I've ever needed...

http://downloads.techradar.com/downloads/freemake-video-converter

And...it's FREE...always.

BTW...I run Windows 10 on a custom build machine...use Windows Defender and never...NEVER
disable anything to install anything. Had Microsoft Security Essentials before updating to Windows 10...so don't rant and rave about how crappy it is.... I have never picked up a virus or any unwanted program with that either. If it won't install because of the firewall...then I don't install it. Even the geeky guys who built my computer don't bother with all the other BS anti virus/firewall crap out there.

Mothman,

Freemake is indeed free, but if you don't like branding added to your videos it still costs money.

Reply   |   Comment by Joey  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+7)

Mothman, Never should have followed your lead. Trojans in this program plus it adds other programs that are not wanted and not given a chance to delete. I picked the build where you select the options you want and it came up and then just continued. Removing everything, Here is the Trojan: http://my.jetscreenshot.com/16452/20170210-mszo-14kb

23 out of 57 deem it infected including some of the major most reputed AV's
Stay away, stay far far away from this

Mothman,

"use Windows Defender and never...NEVER disable anything to install anything... don't rant and rave about how crappy it is.... I have never picked up a virus or any unwanted program with that either."

Well, it's probably good that you've never tried to disable Defender, because in tests I've run, you can't -- Safe Mode without AV runs another security .exe. It only is disabled if/when you install another security product.

As far as how good Defender ranks against the competition, check out av-test[.]org -- as tested in 10/16, Protection Score 3.0/6.0, Performance Score 4.5/6.0, Usability Score 5.5/6.0.

RE: never getting infected, Cool, but please don't get complacent... Better engineered or written malware is designed to Not be detected, to Not effect the way your PC's performing. It may not even add any files to your drives, but be a collection of script segments stored in the registry that are assembled & run in RAM. That sort of thing is EXTREMELY difficult to find or detect.

That said, as others have noted, Freemake is ad sponsored etc. GOTD uses an encrypted wrapper that's been dealt with extensively in comments, their blog, & the forum for years now. In my experience Defender doesn't flag or block it [e.g. like Kaspersky], so no need to start in Safe Mode to disable anything, if indeed it was possible to disable Defender.

Joey, "Branding" ????....I use Freemake 'all the time' always just a fine copy of the video/movie?
always free, nothing added?????

Reply   |   Comment by walt  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

To Mothman,

The problem with this freeware program is it adds unwanted branding to the start and end of all video files that it converts. You need to pay eith $9 per year or $19 unlimited to remove the branding.
So to be a fully usable program Freemaker is not free.

Reply   |   Comment by Brian  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

LancasterPA,

You can install without the added programs, I did. Do custom install. Works good except for the nags to buy and branding at the beginning and end of your video.

Reply   |   Comment by Joey  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Brian, you're obviously using a different 'Freemake' than I am....been using Freemake converter and downloader for years ...ALWAYS FREE? and I know we shouldn't be having this conversation about
Freemake when we being given a different freeware but, I can't help it...please let me know what you are talking about?

Reply   |   Comment by walt  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

To Mothman.

It looks like you might be using an older version of FreeMake as the version I downloaded puts a branding at the start and end of the video and says this will be moved (in the program) if I pay $9 for a 1 year sub or $19 for unlimited sub.

I have since uninstalled FreeMaker converter

It installed with no problems, at all. I have been coming to Giveawayoftheday for years, but over the last year or two, I have noticed the comments fill up with negativity. People who say they cannot install. I personally have had no problems other than what has been said about the download link not working. That has happened often, but the last couple months that has not happened. Now, I have windows 8.1.. I click on the install, FOLLOW THE INSTUCTIONS!!, and it works. Who knew? I already have like 5 of these giveaway type programs, so I do not need this, but I wanted to see how hard it was to download and activate.. A+ for that here... If you are having problems, look here first to see if it is a known issue.. if not, it is a sign you do not need this and move along. Thanks :)

Eric,
Pretty much of the same opinion...always seem to be a handful of whiners that can't install anything.
My first guess is that they can't read and like you said...move along...or go back to Mommies basement.

Hey, but what if you're an otherwise smart, productive individual--and have absolutely no trouble installing the GOTD--but still living in "mommy's basement?" (perhaps to save money...)

We had an earlier Giveaway from same developer "Leawo DVD Creator 7.6.0" who was a module of Leawo Prof. Media again.
Is it possible to activate the module "Leawo Video Converter 7.6.0" with just registering the new key in the old installation without losing the functionality and registration of the earlier module "Leawo DVD Creator 7.6.0"?

Or we should make new installation and keep 2 diffrent installation?

GOTD should post a daily advice to install with anti-virus temporarily disabled.

Reply   |   Comment by IDe  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-8)

From IDe,
What-What??
Negatives to good advice?
Every day we see complaints from those who could not install the GOTD software - because they did not know to temporarily disable their anti-virus.

If GOTD cannot address the problem they should at least post a simple daily advice on how to avoid installation problems!

Reply   |   Comment by IDe  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-3)

IDe, I won't give your advice thumbs, up nor down. However, the thumbs down are most likely due to the "disable anti-virus" which is a bad advice. If a program needs you to disable anti-virus it is a clear sign to find another program. Never ever disable your security software. It is there for a reason and if it blocks the program it most likely blocks it for a reason. If you still want to install it find out how to whitelist/allow it in your particular security program and whitelist/allow it (with all the risks associated)

Reply   |   Comment by Mavadelo  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

Mavadelo,
You are obviously right and I might have avoided thumbs down by clearer objection against having to temporarily disable anti-virus in order to install programs via GOTD.

It is a daily issue that GOTD need to fix.
