I am quite disgusted to find NO obvious place to "opt out" of the OpenCandy rubbish, on installation....

If I find odd ads popping out after this, I will delete the whole thing IMMEDIATELY.

Just because we get a piece of software free for a day, doesn't mean we should be subjected to bombardment with ads for the whole next year....

@27 Perhaps this is a better explanation to what OpenCandy is:

http://www.ghacks.net/2012/08/06/opencandy-explained-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-technology/

If you see the list on this page, most people will see one or more programs they´ve installed on their computer.

#27: Here's the thing...
If publishers wish to use opencandy in their software, in order to make it "FREE" So be it. They should then GIVE IT AWAY & Be honest & opened about it. Agreed?
But...even their paid version has it!!
And... just because some site search deems the site to be "free from infections" These standard tests "do not" go into and do an entire search of downloadables!!
Sites can also utilize outdated, old versions of software to host, that is vulnerable to hacks & ease of use of drive by downloads....
There is very good reason as to why Security software blacklists sites!
I mean, just the mention that other sites on their "network" spews stuff..."THERE YOU GO, WHY THE CONTINUED QUESTIONS?"
Lazy IT and lack of educated understanding in how infections get spread so rapidly is the BIGGEST REASON as to why things go the way they do. Personally... to offer OpenCandy with fully Paid Versions to me is enough to PASS and I have. But to somehow, decide to run a webcheck on a site and think "oh it's safe", is like looking at a coat of paint on a car, saying "oh look how shiny, new and cool it looks" and saying "it's a safe car to drive" Totally two different scenarios, yet you're focus is only on linear thinking, at best. Personally, I delve in security (fyi)

Install was easy, program works. I like the basic look and feel and will run through it when I have more time, but I like what I have seen so far. With the free alternatives I probably wouldn't buy this program, but it seems to do what it claims so I will give it a thumbs up!!

@Giovanni The JetPhoto software you mentioned requires a specific screen size smaller than what I use. Since I have AMD it is not possible for me to reduce the screen size.

@Giovanni The JetPhoto software you mentioned - have you tested it for video editing and creating video files/slideshows on the Free version. The JetPhoto website seems to suggest that one would need a Pro license for that.
Thanks.

For what it's worth...yes, the site is clean. They list CNET as have given GX good reviews. Went to CNET. It's listed, and gets an editor's rating of 4.5 stars out of 5. It installed and activated easily (x64), although GOTD's window pops up saying it's activated--no, it's not until you put in the code and email address provided in the appropriate spot. Do I really need it? No, as I already have Xara, and some others, but because they don't harvest my email address as many others do, it gets good marks on that alone. It's another tool in the box. (If installed using InstallRite, you can reinstall it after a format--already tested it)

#25: "btw, during install there is NO mentioning of the opencandy, I didn’t get any opencandy offers during install. I suspect the developer has changed the setup for GOTD to be delivered without OC but I am not sure. OC does not install anything on your pc but only operates during the setup of the program and after that deletes itself (according to developers website http://www.opencandy.com/faqs/#uninstall there you will find a clean-up utility as well in case any traces are left on your system"

It's somewhat common for software companies to have adware trials, but adware free versions on GOTD & similar [e.g. covermount versions].

RE: opencandy, as with other adware add-ons I've monitored software installs that put adware on your hard drive &/or in the registry whether you chose to add them or not -- choosing *No* might not turn it on, or it might hide it, but it was still there. Opencandy has been in my limited experience better than most in that sense, but personally I still monitor any install with adware options in a VM 1st to be safest.

Open Candy does not install anything but when you install your software it runs something !! Did you ask for running something extra?

Open Candy collects, while running, information about your whereabouts and what you have already installed, denied etc., also analyzing your configuration, do you want it to do that?

Open Candy phones back the collected information, but it is in an anonymous way. If you are willing to trust upon the anonymous part (you do right?), do you even want your information be collected and send to some database out there?

Open Candy shows you other software you could install aswell, in a way these are just adds with an install option. Do you need those adds specially for you?

Open Candy tells you they selected carefully trusted software for you to install if you are interested. Lets trust there software selection, but do you believe it will be trustworthy for ever? Do you know what kind of developers are going to use Open Candy in the future, all you know is that Open Candy selected them with care as they let you know.

You are free to not accept the extra software and you like clicking "no" a lot. It thrills you to stay carefull in order not to accept something you don't want. Really?

So you can opt out of the extra software, but can you opt out of having to run Open Candy?

Many see Open Candy as intrusive addware, not because of the software itself but because it keeps you busy in a way you didn't ask for.

GAotD warned us about the use of Open Candy, that is something, but is it enough? The only choice is to not accept the giveaway if you don't want to meet Open Candy.

It would be better to not allow Open Candy packed giveaways by GAotD in the interest of all the users. Will this be a trending way to give us our giveaways?

After reading Ashrafs review (did you read that Giovani? deserves more then 43% thumbs up? I think not)
despite Ashrafs devastating review I decided to give it a whirl. It installed fine on my win7 64Bit laptop and I didn't get any errors or crashes when trying to edit some images, however I am in no way satisfied with the options presented. Options like crop and resize have no "defaults" to choose from or easy select. all sizes have to be entered manually.

Things like color, saturation and effects work like they should but don't make this a program standing apart from the rest, being able to add a watermark is a nice feature though. The effects are ok but nothing special.

Personally I don't see any benefits to use this instead of Picasa, zoner or any of the many other freeware tools already mentioned by Ashraf and Giovani.

btw, during install there is NO mentioning of the opencandy, I didn't get any opencandy offers during install. I suspect the developer has changed the setup for GOTD to be delivered without OC but I am not sure. OC does not install anything on your pc but only operates during the setup of the program and after that deletes itself (according to developers website http://www.opencandy.com/faqs/#uninstall there you will find a clean-up utility as well in case any traces are left on your system

uninstalling this again, no need for it

Installed on a W8 64bit System.

Has anybody "really" tested this software?

Tried to catalogue a database.

Cannot automatically check subfolders! You have the check every single subfolder. Do this with a folder structure year/months/date.

Crashed after a few seconds with the message :

"Oops...Kestrel GX encountered an error and needs to close.

The following error message was returned:

52 -> eludom_fixe_lautriv -> fixelautriv -> 1180 -> 1.3.1"

Was unable to catalog some folders, which have been catalogued with other sw without any problems.

Thumbs down!

Today's giveaway is a pretty decent program designed to manage and edit any digital photos of yours with ease, and for sure it's worth much more than just 43% THUMBS UP.

Can level, rotate, crop and resize any selected image in batch with ease, giving you the ability to remove Red Eye and add a text watermark on your photos. Additionally you are allowed to perform advanced searches for your pics through multiple-criteria and metadata-support, as well as design photo books in PDF format.

So if you work with tons of photos almost on a daily basis just grab it and enjoy it, since it enables you to do many things on your images without the need to purchase multiple (free/paid) software anymore, even though it doesn't provide any advanced feature to share your pics on all social networks out there!!

60 $?? Well, well, well......come on dude, what's the point of charging 60 bucks for an app like yours if "Windows Live Photo Gallery" is FREE and far BETTER than your program (can organize and edit not only PHOTOS but also VIDEOS like a PRO)????

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Digital-Photo-Tools/Windows-Live-Photo-Gallery.shtml

Another great one is definitely "JetPhoto Studio", which can import your photos from a digital camera and then automatically organize them in albums, calendar and map by EXIF metadata, notes, keywords, time and geodata. Once you have organized them with meaningful folders, this software is even able to create slideshows, wallpaper and screensaver, as well as create & publish flash and web galleries on the NET (Flickr) literally with a couple of mouse clicks.
The last version of this amazing FREE program enables users to import and manage not only their photos but also their VIDEO, raw, panorama and stereo files captured with their digital camera!
This means that this software can also be used as a VIDEO CLIPS PLAYLIST ORGANIZER and even as a MOVIE EDITOR, since it's able to trim/merge any video clips of yours and reorder them in the playlist according to your needs. Once you have produced your FINAL MOVIE, you may want to publish it on the NET where it can be played in both Flash-enabled web browsers and iPad/iPhone mobiles, as well as in Flash, Lightbox, CoverFlow and Google Map web galleries.
And guess what? You don't need any video encoding and page integrating knowledge to do that, since each task is automatically performed by the program itself with no questions asked.

http://www.jetphotosoft.com/web/home

So no offense meant for the developer, but I think he should eat humble pie for a while!!

BEST FREE PHOTO ORGANIZERS (besides the two ones mentioned above):
http://free.zoner.com

- BEST FREE IMAGE EDITORS
* (Portable) Hornil StylePix (==> COOL lightweight app and my personal first choice)

As far as false positive: i don't think so, but to each their own.
Now, if this product "openly tells you about opencandy and allows you to "opt out" kudo's for them as well
I won't download and install it...regardless!

I think this is a nice little program for beginners. I usually use Photoscape to edit my photos but i think Kestrel GX does a much better job. The editor is extremely easy to use with a kind of 10 steps wizard which is perfect for anyone who is new to photo editing. There are also some nice filters and other cool effects.

I am not a great fan of photo managers but i will keep this program because of its photo editor. It's definitely worth a try.

If you have a digital camera, don't you usually get some pretty good free software specifically for that camera, plus access to updates? Another useless piece of software in my opinion, and at $59!! I have an idea for some software. It centres the mouse pointer on screen, you simply use your mouse to click on the onscreen icon and hey presto, the mouse pointer is centred! I will charge a mere £99 for this utility,
