This looks like a keeper, I've been using AVG's Tuneup Utilities up to now which has done an ok job but I think Kerish Doctor may be better. I installed it after reading the reviews here and it has so far made a decent job of clearing out junk files and fixing other items. It installed without a hitch and there were no problems with the licence key. I am definitely thinking of removing Tuneup Utilities from my system and buying Kerish Doctor when the free licence expires.

Nick Lettin,

PS The only thing against it so far is very minor, that being that a lot of the dialogues have been written in grey text which on a white background makes it very difficult to read. Apart from that, no complaints thus far.

I'm trying this as Windows update does not work properly.
1st test on my old Vista SP2 computer. Kerish has found nearly 14000 (!) junk files. I give it a chance at the moment to clean things up (OK, for safety reasons I made a backup first ;-)
OK has finished now. I cound not find a logfile about what has been clened (deleted?, moved to ?)
2nd attempt: finds four more junk files. Cleaned!
Unbelievable: the computer starts and some 20 programs as well! Seems I really had a lot of junk in there.
unfortunately my Windows update problem is not solved although I executed the item in the problem list.
Anyway: Kerish alt least did not destroy my system.
to be continued ...

Thumbs UP for this site and Kerish doctor to make people hear for this software. Installed on W10x64 latest insider build, goes well and specially registry fixes are pretty smart, how they should be. For now can say that this software do his job very well.

Installed without errors on Windows 10/64 desktop, after reading the muff-ups of others here... :-) Thanks everyone.

AT FIRST, it just looked like Yet Another System Optimizer. I've tried dozens over the years. But after I worked with it for a while, I have developed the opinion that this one is something special. I like the depth of its monitoring, it's set--and-forget type of operation and so on. THIS IS THE FIRST of all programs I tried, that warned me that IE was saving HTTPS pages to disk! Never knew that, so fixed that one pronto. Don't want secure info laying around to be exploited by malware. Another thing nice is that the license will survive a reinstall -- which may be coming for this machine in the near future.

In a nutshell, Well Done, Kerish Products Team. If it continues to function as nicely as it has so far during the free license period, I will renew.

Pls read the message carefully next time before you answer.

Thomas, he does have a point. the README does say I should use "giveawayoftheday" to register.
Guess I should read every word of the readme. I wasn't expecting such a procedure.

Thank you both. At any rate, the good people of Kerish were kind enough to send me a code anyway :)

I've installed the program go to the required page and submit my email and get the message that the key had been sent. Nothing turns up in my email. (spam folder checked)
I checked out 'About' in the program and it says it's registered to Giveawayoftheday for 187 days. That's 6 months not 12. I haven't entered any keys as none have arrived. So is 6 months the limit?

This may be a very good tool, but OMG is it slow to process. After about an hour, waiting for it to finish cleaning up files I had to abort, because it wasn't letting me get work done. CCleaner & Glary appear to work much faster, at least on the junk files. I didn't have time to wait for it to do whatever else was supposed to happen, since it doesn't let you know where in the process it is while doing clean up.

I was hoping that this was something that could run while I was doing work, but clearly that's not to be.

Have downloaded and gotten my 15 day trial. When I load the page to get activation code I do so by filling in my full name and e-mail address, but when I press the "get code"-button I get the error "Wrong captcha" and is unable to go on.
Maybe you can e-mail my action code to me? The e.mail address is already known to you!

I used this the last time that it was given away and would say that this is not a program to use all features unless you know what the consequences are, as vital things can be removed by the automated tasks of Kerish Doctor to completely screw up your system, so take all belts and braces backups before you unleash it.

Downloaded without problem. Installed on the third try on a Win10/64 with 6GB computer. Used two different, valid email addresses before getting the key. Attempted to install the key three different time, making sure email address matched the one used to obtain the key, but each time an invalid key message was returned. DELETE.

Microscopic blue type when the program was run! I get better odds when I go to my ophthalmologist!

Shen, if you do go to an opthalmologist, get her or him to check your prescription. The Read Me text, and the license download text, clearly state that you have to register in the name of giveawayoftheday. Your acknowledgement that you attempted to install three times "making sure email address matched the one used to obtain the key" indicatesthat you aren't able to read. . . properly.

I left this as a suggestion but now don't see it. I know some functions need to be loaded at boot to be effective. However I want to be able to run at least some functions like Junk cleanup or Error repair, only when I want them to run. Without being required to agree that Kerish will be loaded at boot from now on. Explains why I've had it installed since last year but never allowed it to run.

Reply   |   Comment by BobbyA  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

BobbyA,
It doesn't need to load at boot; when you need it, Open and then go into Maintenance, then Clean up of Junk Files and it should do what you require.

I find this programme interesting and will certainly try it for a while - it seems much more comprehensive than most however you need to consider that 95% of what these types of programmes reccommend is not necessary to apply. It in most cases is like stripping out unused code and spaces from an HTML file - tidies things up but does little to affect actual working. That is not a reason not to use them as they will uncover genuine problems or at least give you options about how your system works.

Others here have said that they do not like real time changes - I concur but with this programme that feature is easily disabled allowing you to run the programme manually when you want to.

I would strongly reccommend that you check the findings each time and only allow it to remove things that you are confident about, again this applies to all maintenance/tweaking software.

I think this is a strong contender to replace Advanced System Care and one that will hopefully not push other programmes in the way that IOBIT do. It is a clean, well laid out and simple interface which has no flashy images other than simple progress indicators - I like this.

Definitely worth trying - time will tell if it is worth buying but at least it is not expensive and generously the paid license covers 3 PCs

Clive Richards, I agree with this to replace AdvSysCare. That's what I did today. I was using AdvSysC and I also had Kerish Doc from last time was Giveaway, Mostly used AdvSysC and hardly ever ran K Doc. Now I formatted and upgrade to win10Pro. I will now use the Doctor. Today was perfect for me to get this GOTD..I am very happy guys..TY

As with many others, clicking setup.exe just got a box saying "NO GO" or something to that effect. It appears that more and more AV programs are blocking new installations, in my case Avira. I closed the box, turned off the real-time protection and tried again successfully. When I turned the Avira protection back on, I got a box notifying me of the new start program installed and the option to accept it or not (which, of course, I did accept).
So, first move if double-clicking doesn't start the installation is to temporarily turn off your AV program and try again. From the number of similar comments, this should be standard procedure.
Program itself seems to work quite well. Yes/no choice on items to be deleted is good---though I confess I tend to go on faith with my fingers crossed, so far, so good. My ethernet broadband connection seemed a bit better and download speed was better according to the Network Speed Test app after I ran the optimization fix.
It even has a setting to get rid of that unnecessary and ugly shortcut arrow on desktop icons!

I've bought and owned this software for some time on a Win 7 PC and Win 10 laptop. No complaints. At the moment it is using between 10500K and 14000K of memory and the commit size is 138,572K , which makes it #2 as far as using resources after Firefox on my PC.
Bottom line, the good far outweighs the bad enough for me to dig into my wallet. There is a learning curve that's worth it and 95% of regular users will benefit from this software.

I use XP by choice, I'm very comfortable with it, but I do have Windows 7 on a separate drive and it is barely used, only programs I really want to keep our put on it and yet recently on bootup problems have occurred.
It informed me that Explorer was having problems on a regular basis, and more recently my graphics card software has according to Windows been causing problems.

I installed today's download and asked it to clean up the junk files, all the options on the main page are set to on, it found many, many more files than anticipated even so I selected Repair.

On reboot no problems reported regarding Explorer, no problems regarding graphics software, these are facts and I leave you to draw your own conclusions.

Installation package finally working after several attempts. AVG antivirus (and perhaps AV's) managed to block. Must be disabled for installation to be successful. Kerish Doctor 2016 seems to have fixed many more problem than Iolo System Mechanic which I am currently testing and evaluating. One word can describe this program ..."Elegant" !
I have always been wary of many of the so called "Optimization " tools available today ...
Many are downright dangerous in "careless hands and many users have found themselves with "Important files deleted " by some of these "fix it" tools !
Kerish Doctor offers a very well designed interface that offers the user a wide range of options that also gives very accurate details of the files it marks for optimization ...and permits the user to see exactly what is selected for deletion or retention !
I have used Kerish for a long time ...and have never had a " bad experience " with regard to "unexpected deletions " or any negative impact on system file structure ...A very well crafted program that deserves a place on every users computer ..Thank you GAOTD !

I have had this giveaway since it was last given away in November 2015.Nice program for basic housekeeping and maintenance, not too intrusive and does what it says.I have it installed on a Windows 7 Home Premium system with no issues whatsoever.
If you already have the program you do not need to reinstall it.Just follow the link in the download "read me" file to get your license code.Once you get the code go to the "about" section and use "activate another license code".Copy and paste the code sent to your email and you are done. The only downside is that it doesn't add a year to your present license, it resets and gives you a year starting today.I'll take it!
Thanks GOTD and Kerish!!

Malcolm, you may have to do like I do and that is boot into safe mode to install the program. Whenever the program installation uses that pesky gcd file or whatever it is, I have to boot into safe mode. If I don't, I get the warning that the file is corrupt and can't be installed. Here we go again - Usual GOTD fiasco!!! Having downloaded and attempted to install Kerish Doctor, on the one hand I am informed the program is successfully activated and to go to the relevant page to obtain License/Registration Key, while on the other, I am informed the files are corrupted and I need to download a fresh file!

Let me emphatically state, I am not exactly 'wet behind the ears' when it comes to downloading and installing software programs. I have subscribed to GOTD for some months now and in that time I have, probably, downloaded, installed and trialled more programs (needless to say, not from GOTD) than most people have had hot dinners! In those months, not once, have I had an issue with downloading and installing a program!

Contrary to the resolution for any such issues, frequently suggested by GOTD, I have not had to 'pause protection' or 'stop' the AV software from functioning, nor (as some suggest) have I had to uninstall/reinstall the AV program in its entirety - What a ludicrous state of affairs that would be, if as a PC user, the AV program had to be uninstalled and reinstalled for every fresh installation. This would defeat the very object of AV protection somewhat!!!!

I have, not ungenerously, afforded GOTD the benefit of the doubt for several programs now and would consider Kerish Doctor a real gem to acquire with a free licence but it is not worth hassle in the attempt to accomplish.

Figuratively speaking, this makes it the 'Third Strike' for GOTD, as far as I am concerned and I will simply unsubscribe from GOTD because in those months, the experience has proven to be nothing but a frustrating and exasperating waste of time!

Thanks for nothing GOTD!

Ian, Is that the only place you had that same error happen? I would normally say that the problem is a overly protected AV program causing that problem but it could just as easily be Administrators rights from UAC stopping your programs from installing. There's too many others getting the program for your problem to be from GAOTD. Logical conclusion is problem is between the chair and the keyboard, At least in my account many times that was my problem. These guys are to busy to help with something like that If you had to reinstall your Virus checker then your Virus Checker program might have a certificate issue going on. I wish I could help but honestly I'm half a brain and dangerous or as my wife will tell you a sufficiently talented fool. I can break anything but I can't fix them.

Ian, boot into SAFE mode and install the program.

Ian, same problem repeatedly with Win 10 and Kaspersky Internet Security resulting in "corrupted files" message. Having to turn off AV to install is just plain wrong.

Ian,
Are you absolutely sure that you use a "Windows PC" ?
Maybe, and I want to stress MAYBE, there's something wrong with your computer. If you have problems (three consecutive times) with something that thousands of other PC's don't have any problems with...
Agree : once in a (long!) while there's something wrong with a program from GAOTD... but if something 's not right three times in a row ............

Just downloaded & installed directly from Kerish site faultlessly. Requested key under Giveawayoftheday registration, and received email. Currently running fine.

Seishan, booting into safe mode and installing usually works for me. It's the only way that I can install a program from GAOTD when the .gcd file is included.

Reply   |   Comment by ALguy  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Seishan, to give credit where credit is due - That was a real good 'tip'! I followed suit, downloaded, then installed Kerish Doctor 2016, directly from the developer's web site, then proceeded to acquire the registration licence, via GAOTD. Like you, the program is now running fine. I am grateful to you for the 'heads-up'. However, from comments here, it strikes me that many people have issues with the installation process with programs downloaded from GAOTD, especially with the .gcd file and earnestly believe that GAOTD, should ease the process for those wanting to take up these offers. Many thanks, Seishan - It is appreciated.

I used this for the first time and now it had blocked me out of some of the website that I've been using for years.. how to fix that??

This site can’t be reached

www.arcamax.com refused to connect.
Try:
Reloading the page
Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

Lauria Thomas,
On the main page turning PC protection off may overcome your problem.
Or, maybe not allowing this program to run at start-up and having all the main page options off may be worth a try, best of luck

The software was totally unuseable on my Windows 7 Pro system. It locked up the processors several times attempting to identify what the setup file was. This has never occurred with my computer before. It only deleted with great difficulty, so regardless of the good comments, I cannot even attempt to use this. I retried some other software afterwards, and it acted in the expected manner.

To be honest, I always stayed well clear of this type of software on the basis that the potential for harm exceeds the potential for good. And messing around with so-called 'registry cleaners / registry optimizers' is neither necessary nor desirable with XP-onwards Windows OS's. However . . .

One of the unique plusses of GOTD is the comments thread, and time and again I came across posts on here from XPMan -- who seems to have vanished of late: I hope he's OK and thriving -- about something called 'Kerish Doctor'. Seeing as XPMan was always a much-appreciated GOTDer, I figured that if he was recommending something (and especially, as he seemed to be as skeptical as I was about cleaners and optimizers) then this was worth a try.

Good call, XPMan. Unlike any and every other softare of this type that I've road tested -- including offerings from iObit, WiseCare, Glary Utilities, the former, though now discredited, jvPowerTools and numerous others -- Kerish Doctor has proved itself to be by far *the* most comprehensive, best thought-out and cleverly designed.

I don't allow it to run all the time on my Windows 7 desktop but it certainly does so on my wife's aged XP desktop / XP laptop where it's light on resource yet sensibly proactive in real time.

As ever: everyone's mileage will be different, and the fact that some folks have a positive experience doesn't infallibly mean that others' will be the same. That said though, on the basis of my own experience, I can only say that this software has proved to be the best of its kind, a remarkably comprehensive tool-set from a responsible developer which, thanks to GOTD today, is here available for nothing at all on a 12-month license and therefore well worth DLing by anyone who hasn't yet encountered it. If you don't like it, don't keep it.

Thanks, then, GOTD, and Kerish Products -- and thanks, too, as well as best wishes, to XPMan, wherever he is nowadays.

PS: hey, kudos to GOTD for providing a 'Sort by' facility: at last I can read posts in the order they were made, rather than coming in at the end of sometimes lengthy interchanges which make no sense when read backwards. 'Oldest' is still the best!

I have just downloaded and activated this program, all went well, no problems, I have used this program for quite some time, and I do like it, I find it very reliable. I is certainly very good at sorting out the rubbish and optimizing the network connection. I recommend this to anyone.

I got this last time it was offered and my random freeze problem was fixed.
When my year sub runs out I plan to buy it.
Easy to use and helped when other programs were unable to
Worth trying if you haven't tried yet.

Yep. A keeper. Does everything it says on the box.

I have one tiny, tiny complaint. About eight time a day a very pleasant lady pops up a window to tell me that she's fixed a whole slew of 'problems' or that the database has been updated. I'm very happy that she is so busy but, ye gods, why does she have to keep telling me!

Reply   |   Comment by ChrisC  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+15)

ChrisC, You can click on the blue sound button upper right next to the question mark button, that will turn off the sound and you will not hear the lady anymore.

Trish,

Thanks for the tip. I'll silence the lady. But she does have a nice voice though!

As for the software. I have absolutely no complaints. I got it from GOTD the last time it was offered and it's one of the very few offerings that I'm sorely tempted to buy.
