I hope you don't judge books like you judge software titles. The first post for this software had a similar comment, and thankfully someone pointed out to that user that they should at least view the samples on the software developer's website.

Yes the word "resize" is in the title, and XnView has a "resize" feature, but this software is not attempting to do a straightforward resize the way XnView and many other tools that can resize images do. If you resize an image in XnView but change the ratio of the sides (e.g., 16x9 to a 4x3), it may look fine for things like an ocean or grass or desert, or anything that does not reveal that the image has been distorted, but if you have a subject in the image that is easily recognizable, such as humans, recognizable animals, vehicles, or even structures, the image will surely look distorted. If you use something like PhotoShop, you could spend a considerable amount of time duplicating the original image into multiple layers, erasing portions of each layer, moving layers to alter the overall ratio, then blending the edges to create your final image, then you could end up with a pretty decent image that would not look distorted. This program attempts to to do the same with much less effort.

The purpose of the iResizer software is to change the width to height ratio without affecting the main subject in the photo. It works for images where the surrounding area is so similar that sections can be removed (or added) without altering the overall appearance of the image, ... except for the ratio. The way that is accomplished is by highlighting parts of the image that you do not want distorted (main subject). Specifying new dimensions for the final image, the software attempts to remove (or add) sections, and blend the remaining parts together (or stretch/duplicate parts to expand the image when you wish to make one of the sides longer), all while leaving the main highlighted subject the same.

XnView cannot do that.

Know the product you are speaking out against.

In cases where you think that a different program can do the same thing, but you are not familiar with the product, it is always a good idea to learn about the program, and read through the comments before posting against a product. Otherwise, by implying that XnView can do the same only confuses users, as they rely on the comments to be accurate, and from knowledgeable people.

I rarely would ever need or utilize Teorex iResizer, but I do recognize its unique features, and understand why it does exist. iResizer is not the greatest thing to ever be developed, as it is in essence a one-trick-pony, but if you need that functionality, it can do it much easier then attempting to do the same in PhotoShop or similar software, provided the image is suitable for this purpose. There really are not a lot of alternatives that do the same thing, although I am sure some competitors will come about. The same technique is used in other Teorex products to remove parts of an image. The software does the blending to fill in the removed parts.

I have used XnView since the earliest days, and it is a great program for what it does. While it would be great to have one tool that does it all, it simply does not exist.

Lars, Going from small to larger, you are using the same number of pixels and spreading them out more, which results in the "out of focus" effect. Try increasing the photo's resolution if you can, or use a software to sharpen/focus the image after you resize. I'm unable to make software recommendations, but do a Google search, there are lots of sharpening/focusing softwares out there.

TeoreX apps can be used portably, but the registration key unlocking them is stored in the registry. An app like the free Cameyo can usually turn this type of app into a fully portable version, but if your laptop is locked down so you can't add the key to the registry the 1st time [for Cameyo to record it], you still need access to an unlocked Windows device.

If the work laptop will allow you to boot from a USB drive, a external win10 Windows To Go drive [created using the wizard in win10's Control Panel with a mounted win10 Ent. ISO (Insider?)] could be one solution to this sort of problem while traveling. If it won't boot to a USB drive, a Windows tablet wouldn't add too much to what you had to carry, & you can sometimes find those fairly cheap on sale.

Thank you for that info! I had been wondering the same thing. So basically, for those not wanting to use the dropbox links, if the "Help" dropdown menu does not show an option to register, the program is registered.

Yes - I failed to mention it's not freeware. $29 - single user with lifetime support.

joerg, changing from 4:3 to 16:9 changes the aspect ratio.
or did you mean 4:3 to 12:9?

brenda, with this program you can resize to any ratio you want and keep the correct ratio of the important parts. With editors like xnview you have to tick the keep aspect ratio box and therefore can only resize with the same ratio if yoy don't want the subject to look incorrect. It actually adds bits to the picture to achieve this. Nothing like a normal resizer. Check the homepage above and it will show you examples.

brenda, Thanks for that "insightful" review of Xnview as well as the review of iresizer. There are people here that sometimes wait to see what the reviews are before downloading. I fail to see why people post such nonsense without so much as an iota of information as to why they like product "X" over the current giveaway.

I use XnView too as a pure image resizer. There are other software that do likewise.
Teorex resizer is a different type of software.
It claims to be able to resize the aspect ratio and keep images that you specify as important, unchanged.
There is nothing "intelligent" about it.
Hmm... I do not need such software.
If others do, good for them.
Teorex quick and dirty, simple image manipulations sometimes work and sometimes they don't.
Consider it a cheap toy software to play around with, if you want to.
