I am not downloading this program.

What I would be very interested in would be a program that will transfer my music, photos, playlists and APPS.
Transfering APPS is the function that all of these do not do.
Does anyone know of a program that will transfer my APPS as well as everything else?
The only reason I am even interested in another program is because iTunes is the slowest software I have ever used.
Thanks.

Junk device detection. Tried it on 3 different computers (XP, Vista, Win7) with two different devices (iPod Touch 4, iPhone 3G), and the devices were never detected, regardless of connection, startup, bootup sequences.

No wonder they've spent most of the fall giving this software away on various web sites.

Well this is where jailbreaking an itouch can really help...
first of all, you CAN transfer purchases to itunes and NOT have your iDevice wiped clean. iTunes will ask you if you want to do this. You must have the password for the account that bought those songs, however.

If you have a jailbroken itouch, then you can use openSSH to SSH songs back onto your computer. Its really foolproof... just a bit tedious.

The only concern that I have with these programs is that the last time I installed one of these iPod -> computer media transfer programs, it installed a program called usblib that disables the drivers for your computer, making your computer almost useless unless if you uninstall usblib. I would be cautious when downloading these kinds of programs, so be careful.

#19 #8 is wrong. You can't do that. You need to use a program like this one or the other free versions other people have named.

Oh, I forgot to add a complaint about iTunes...

Regarding what #8 said....
"When plugging in someone else’s stuff to your computer, a prompt comes up asking if you are sure you want to sync."

This is NOT always true!!! Stinking Apple and their bugs and oversimplified user interface. iTunes *DOES* sometimes sync and a prompt does NOT come up!!!! And sometimes you plug your iDevice into someone else's computer and iTunes pops up and you don't know how they have their preferences set up. Some people WANT iTunes to automatically sync (I suppose but I can't for the life of me figure out why). If you plug your iDevice into their computer you are screwed. You'll lose everything. Apps, Music, Videos, and you'll even lose your connection to your iTunes account!!!!! Your iDevice will think that you are that person now and you'll have to enter THEIR password when you want to purchase an app or song.

Man I hate Apple.

There's a lot of ignorance here.

1st: This is a useful program if your hard drive failed and you no longer have computer access to your legally purchased music but you still have it on your iDevice.

2nd: Some people think that if you plug your iDevice into the computer you can access the music somehow with no extra software. Maybe this is true if you are on a mac, but for windows users you can not without a piece of software like this.

3rd: I don't like iTunes much either but it does have additional capabilities built in. Some of the capabilities transfer to the iDevice, like smart playlists. Example: if you have a smart playlist of all 5 star songs on your iDevice and you purchase a song on your iDevice 1000 miles away from your computer then give this new song 5 stars it will show up in that playlist. Try doing that with Winamp or the other playlist managers.

Still: There are other free programs that do this. iFunbox is a very popular program that allows more functionality too. That's what I use.

By the way, if you do lose all of your songs on your computer and you need to get them from your iDevice and you don't want to use a program like iMedia Transfer, if you use another program like iFunbox to transfer to your computer you'll find all of the filenames have a format like BXLT.mp3. After you copy them to your computer just drag and drop them into iTunes and the songs will get their correct name. Not sure if the filenames are changed though.

#8 How do you access the hidden files (except what Apple allows access to like music, photos, email) on Apple devices? I thought Apple has tight fences around all apps and app files can not be accessed.

"....This seems pretty pointless to me, as you can transfer all your ipod/iphone stuff just by enabling your hidden folders with the pod plugged in...

iMedia Transfer installed without a hitch on XP. I just transferred about 70 tunes from my iPod to my laptop and it went relatively quickly.

This is useful to me because I don't synch to the laptop. It's a nice way to put some of the songs I want to hear without having to put them on a flash drive at home. I was able to put some current podcasts on without going through the subscribe & download of those ones I wanted. That way the iTunes on the laptop won't do podcast downloads I don't want.

A thumbs up for me!

Downloaded and installed on Win 7 64 bit system with no problem. Software found my attached iPod Nano with no problem, and was able to copy files to my PC with no problem. Good job.

So, what's the problem?
iTunes copies files to the iPod in a proprietary manner and scrambles them up in folders with 4-letter alpha names, making it very difficult to find an individual song, or a whole album which gets spread across multiple folders. Apple also made no way to move songs from an iPod into iTunes as a "security feature," hence the need for software such as this.

Snowfox iMedia Transfer is able to decode the song names, and even reestablishes album songs together in the database UI. Good!

However, there seems to be no logic to the database display, and the 6 field headers (Title, Album, Artist, Genre, Length, & File Size) do not sort, so it's very hard to find a particular song or album. There is no Find feature either, so if you are like me and have 2,000 or more songs on an iPod, it's going to take a very long time to find and copy what you need.

Just fixing these two problems will make Snowfox iMedia Transfer a usable product.

Usually I don't comment (or very rarely) on software that I haven't downloaded and carefully tested myself. But this is an exception since I want to share an alternative.

@Colin Wiffen #3
100% exactly what I think too, it speaks from my heart :).

Whats the point of a software that lets you transfer your files from iPod etc. to PC but not vice versa - none at all. Before they went on iPod you must have had them on PC anyway and (hopefully) made a backup. The real pain is to transfer files from PC to iPod if you don't want to use iTunes.

I don't like iTunes and it belongs to the programs that will never get to my PC. Why install something that I would only need for one reason, i.e. manage my iPod files. If I purchase music I have my emusic membership and also Amazon. For managing my playlists I am using Spiderplayer and there are several great music managers, such as J. River Mediajukebox, Mediamonkey, Songbird, MusicBee, Foobar.
And mostly I use my Archos player which is much better than iPod. But I too have an older iPod as well, so I did search for a tool that lets one transfer in 2 directions.

Now, for transferring only from iPod to PC there are countless free tools available, just google for Yamipod or Sharepod (that I never saw any point for, due to the above reasons). The important thing is, how do you transfer from PC to iPod and how can you manage your files on iPod without iTunes.
Well, there is Winamp, its free and there is a free iPod plugin, that works in both directions.

And, there is also a nice little freeware, called Poddox. It can transfer files from iPod to PC AND ALSO from PC to iPod (don't know if it also works with iPad and iPhone, as I don't have that, but would be worth testing).
Poddox can also manage files on iPod and can even repair a damaged iTunes database on iPod (without iTunes of course).
The only downside is, that obviously it is not developed further anymore, the last version is from 2007. But it works great
Here is the link:

Wishing everyone a wonderful "jump" into the new year and a new year filled with health, prosperity and happiness!

iMedia works fine for me with 4th gen iPod Touch and my 4th gen iPod classic. It's a simple music (+ movies and podcasts) backup utility, but that can be useful. Some of the earlier commenters may be forgetting that recent iPod devices no longer appear as a removable disk drive on your computer, and a couple of background services have to be running before any program can access them (specifically AppleMobileDeviceService.exe and iPodService.exe). I prefer to use my iPod with MediaMonkey rather than iTunes, so I always have to remember to start those services manually for the iPod Touch when not using iTunes.

A couple of comments for the developer:
- The program doesn't seem to have the ability to look again for iPod if it isn't connected when the program starts.
- The other programs I use for iPod backup have the ability to rename files using the ID tag info, which is very handy for correcting some odd file names accumulated over the years of using other utilities.

I have no i- devices, so this program would not be a benefit to me.

Programs I would like to see here are video editing and production, batch file conversion programs that would convert files to .doc or .docx, DVD authoring programs.

This seems pretty pointless to me, as you can transfer all your ipod/iphone stuff just by enabling your hidden folders with the pod plugged in. Admittedly, iTunes stores music in an illogical way, but it is there all the same with no need to download a program.

#7 When plugging in someone else's stuff to your computer, a prompt comes up asking if you are sure you want to sync. Click no or cancel. After this, just click the ipod icon on left. On the first page scroll down and check the manually manage box. Be sure to save by clicking another folder. To sync later just uncheck that box and save.

iTunes is a real pain - if you plug in a friend's iPhone, it will silently format the iPod... and get you a really angry friend.

I haven't got another iPod to test with at the moment, but if this avoids the issue, its a useful peice of software to have.

I installed this on Windows 7, 64 bit. The program installed fine, but it never found my Iphone 3gs.

This seems like a nice program, however it didn't work for me.

I have no iPad/iPod/iPhone/iOS/iTunes...and that's the way I like it. Too bad this doesn't work for netbook/Sansa Fuze/Android/Windows 7/Rhapsody, because then it might be useful to me.

SnowFox, you should be careful using an iName like iMedia...Apple has lots of lawyers sitting around waiting to sue people, and they think that any iWord is an infringement on their iTrademarks.

Installed without an apparent issue, however, each time I would try to get it to recognize my iPod, it NEVER found it..big thumbs down from me on this one GOTD..I uninstalled it after half a dozen tries to get it to work, rebooting, turning off my iTunes services and rebooting without them. still didn't work. uninstalled seemingly without an issue(cross my fingers)

This is a nice idea, but it seems to lack any real functionality and seems quite buggy and inconsistent. Sometimes it would find my iPod and sometimes it wouldn't.

It offers you the ability to copy your files to the PC or iTunes from the iPod/iPad etc but doesn't do anything in reverse which to me seems a little pointless. If you have the files on your device in the first place you will have software to put them there I know, but also you will have the files in iTunes or on you PC already.

I think the ability to copy an MP3 directly to the iPod etc would be much more useful. I am sure that there is a market for this but to me it seems seriously lacking in real functionality and adds no unique selling points that make it worth parting with your cash for.

A little more thought and some notice given but the developers to ideas and suggestions from GOTDs ideas informer may help give this value for money. For me this is not a keeper.
