Great idea, but bad design.
a) forgets all selections between runs including software key registration
b) terminates after automatically after each run
c) no way to set preferred defaults
d) settings must be done for every single image one at a time (does not have select all and does not honor windows select options like control click or shift click)

Only offers WMV and AVI output container formats, best codec I can see it offer is Xvid... BUT when Xvid codec is selected on AVI container the codec settings button launches the Microsoft Video Compressor Version 1.00 now that is a very basic bug that should never happen... no wonder it crashes if it does not properly select the correct codec and configure it properly too! As is usual the GUI is spartan and clinical with no preview of images or transition effects or anything! On procedding to create the slide show it defaults to the users Documents folder and NOT the users Video folder like wow this program is made to create Videos and the developer thinks it appropriate to dump the videos in the users Documents folder heirachy? sheesh! Encoding is single threaded, unable to use multiple CPU or GPU cores... it is VERY slow at encoding It is currently working on building a 1920x1080p Xvid AVI slideshow of 112 misc image files lying around in this accounts pictures folder.. No idea what the encoding parameters are as the GUI does not provide the codecs settings dialog... I'll wait to see what is generated... before posting this. I am expecting it to take over an hour! So far the only good thing I can see in the GUI design is that the GUI does not lock up once encoding/generating starts... but I suspect that is not an intended feature but a side effect of the libraries they used as the GUI lets me change effect/transition and other parameters that logically should no longer be adjustable once slideshow generation starts!

The image list does not support multi-select so one can only remove one image from the list at a time or remove them all... compression level produced by xvid codec suggests it uses codec settings that produce very little compression since a 2min 48 seconds video with no sound track resulted in a 719Mbyte file and took over an hour to generate! It crashed when I tried to generate a 3840x2160p slideshow with significanlty less images.

To date I've never been impressed by the software this company churns out, it's crude, poorly designed, unstable and putting it bluntly not worth buying. Today's software was no exception, installed and registered without a hitch, but when run it crashed, even attempted to run in compatibility mode but that made no difference ... Think I'll make a point of avoiding this company in future, everything I tried has either been broken or just garbage.

Could anyone make a video from images?
And could anyone tell me how to do that?

Ootje, I made a barely compressed Xvid 1920x1080p sub 3 minute AVI I have posted a comment about the experience that will apear when it passes moderation. I have not made the video available for download as it used images that contained private data and the short slidshow video was over 700Mbyte in size!

TK, Thanks for your posting.
This time and also the last time I could not produce anything.
Win8.1 is the same, but Win10 is now the newest one and still no video. No error-messages etc.
But GOTD has given a lot of software, who can do the task.

consuella, I did not know that software.
GOTD has given a lot of software, also software that can do the same.
Otherwise I also can use PP.

Ootje, be aware that NCH free software is invasive in that it installs on-the-fly installers for many of its tools that you can be fooled into installing if you forget that NCH installed the extra shorcuts around the place.
Often when you try and download an advertised free program you don't get the free program but the trial of the commercial program and only when the trial is expired and it pushes you to buy and you choose to uninstal are you offered the option to change it to the free edition. Then and only then do you finally get the free version but expect periodic nags due to scheduled jobs that need to be disabled.

None of Bytescout programs are well designed matured commercial programs. They are all demos of their Bytscout SDK product that they license for exorbitant sums of money and since most developers now use open source libraries and SDK's in their products Bytescoute try it on by trying to monitize their SDK proof of concept sample programs with varying levels of development investment so some of these monitized demo programs are dire and some are usable if not well thought out or designed to be user apealing.

All of their giveaways also install the web installer for the bytscout SDK which is normally completely unwanted.

Got a message that it was activated but it did NOT install! How do I install it?

Reply   |   Comment by Craig  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-8)

Craig, I've found that I have to disable AVG (both File Shield and Behaviour Shield) to install anything from GAOTD, otherwise I get just what you describe.

Stephen, I can not seem to find my way around AVG anymore. Could you please help me for a moment to disable it?

Marshann , just download from the bytscoute freeware page and use the license code from the readme.txt you got from here... The license formally allows use in a commercial environment which paradoxally is prohibited with giveaways... so no advantage to license it as far as I can see except it allows you to put whatever text you like in the title bar by putting that in the Name field when you enter the license information.

Marshann ,

I have Windows 7, AVG Antivirus Free 18.5.3059

1) Click the AVG icon in your system tray/notification area.
2) Wait. Wait some more. Then the AVG window opens.
3) The very first tile on the left is 'Computer'. Click it.
4) You should now see two tiles - File Shield and Behaviour Shield. Both have on/off switches that look like sliders.
5) Click the left end of the slider for one to turn it off. AVG will darken the screen and get you to confirm.
6) Do the same for the other.
7) Go back and install the GAOTD program as per instructions
8) Back to AVG to re-enable the two shields again.

Downloaded and installed easily on a laptop with Windows 10. Tried the software with 22 photos from the same folder and a music file from another folder. The software crashed 3 of 4 times. Uninstalled.

George Jackson Jr., after registration, I closed the program and reopen it.
Registered.
But when I registered and try to work with it, it vanished and after a restart I have to register it again.
