Do the STP users out there know about the only version of the program that is still maintained?
http://systrayplay.free.fr/

An improved version of the original, not in the least because it supports Winamp plug-ins. Give it a try.

Regarding STP mp3-player...

It is by far the best of its kind!

Low resources - fully equipped - superb sound - easy to handle

One of the top utils I have ever used

I had made a few skins for this player - they are still available here... http://stp.byteact.com/download.php - Entire original skin archive.

I had also made the greek translation for some older versions.

A question for Andrew Miller (I cannot find any contact info in your site - hopefully you will contact me in spyros88@gmail.com): I have STP3-1029 which was the last version supporting skins for the minibar (if I am not mistaken). Do you have a newer version than this one supporting skinable minibar?

I enjoy reading the 15-Minute reviews by BladedThoth. He seems to know the programs and is able to figure out both cons and pros. I do wish he would specify whether the program is either needed for those less computer savy, or whether the program is easy enough to be used by new computer operators. Most of his reviews help make the decision, however there have been a few applications that I wondered if a home operator, not for business, would have a logical use for.

I do hope he sees this and replies to me. I feel sure that there are other users out there who are not really into all the mechanical aspects of their computer and wonder if the software would be worth the download for someone just using their home computer for games, chat rooms, browsing, downloading music or movies, or just surfing the net.

Though tiny, isn't of much practical use.
My player MPlayer for Windows http://mulder.dummwiedeutsch.de/home/?page=projects#mplayer does minimize to the tray and if yours doesn't,try this beautiful software http://www.teamcti.com/trayit/trayit.htm which can minimize almost anything. You will however lack the controls from tray though.

Why not right click the task bar and click Toolbars > Windows Media Player. Then, whenever you minimize WMP, it puts a player on the task bar.

You expect ppl to pay for a mp3 player (Software)?!?!?!

GOTD - thanks for try'n...

Things like Aston (9/21/07 give away) - Very nice and unique, I will pay for that.
Things like this - LoL yeah I would pay 29.95 to get a hit off what your smoke'n right now cause it must be that good!

AT about twice the size of Winamp, with a much larger taskbar footprint, I am disappointed. Add to that the glitchy UI, and I have to recommend passing, even for free.

Don't get too hung up on the "free" thing. Free junk is still junk.

I'd go on about WinAmp, but I'm sure everyone knows that it also rips MP3's, burns CD's and supports every audio format. All for free.

Nearly $30 for IconMP3? That's a joke, right? WinAmp Pro is only $20, is still smaller, and has so many options it would be better if you just go there to see why $30 for this piece o' junk isn't worth a bean.

Yes, Linux users can download MediaMonkey or Winamp...as a matter of fact, Linux users can download anything...it's really easy :P Doesn't mean it installs or it is made for Linux

Passing on this one anyways, I can't install on Linux (or can I)?

*I appreciate the programme, thanks a lot.*

It falls into the standards of freewares.

*But i can never understand who is going to pay 29.25$ for this tiny 450kb application, when the giants like winamp or WMP are available for free!*

Ok, since I am a DJ, I am always looking for mp3 players. We are 100% digital now, and I thought, hey give it a try.

1: No drag and drop to the play list, that won't work for weddings
2: NO DRAG AND DROP...what the hell, don't all mp3 players do this?

Sound was good, but can't get around the no drag and drop

Think I'll stick with Foobar in conjunction with Media Monkey. I like Monkey's database, drag and drop into Foobar, works awesome.

I didn't download this to try as I already have a couple on my laptop I like.
The reason for my comment is this:
To the ones who feel that they have to express their views not so politely:
Get a grip. This is a free offer, you don't have to try it, no one is twisting your arms, so get a life and find something of value to say rather than tearing this site or the developers down. Surely there must be something better you could do with your time. If you cannot say something positive, then at least stop bashing something that you did not have to try out to begin with. There is a real difference between giving constructive opinions on the way something works or just being plain nasty.

This is stupid software. Why would anyone pay for an mp3 player? In fact, why would anyone even try to sell one? Is it not obvious that there are a lot of free media playing software available? For example, winamp is a free, better alternative.

The 33 (22%) people so far who have given this a thumbs up, are you honestly trying to tell me that you would buy this software when there are clearly much higher quality free softwares that are so much more powerful than this. If you are one of these people, feel free to explain yourself, otherwise I will just say that you are pretty oblivious and insensible to the this kind of software.

I still find the best small player is the Quintessential Player from Quinnware (www.quinnware.com). Its 800k, has tray buttons, tag editing, CD ripping, format conversion, and many options for sorting songs. I can't figure out why more people aren't using it.

Whoa. The only mp3 player i know that doesnt minimize to the sys tray.. is... vlc... but then again i might be wrong, but then again, its much more than an mp3 plyers....

Let's see... Itunes... Winamp.... minimize to systray, check, right click select "next", check.

See? Two free ones that do the same thing as that.

Thanks GAOTD for this great piece of software.

I paid less than that for my USB drive/MP3 player.

Advertising can be a sign of low sales. By continually offering these kinds of freebies, GAOTD is compromising its reputaion and losing bigger vendors.

Yes, Winamp is amazing freeware.

$30 for an mp3 player? I can think of so many open source, free, or better alternatives. Windows even includes windows media player that can minimize to the taskbar. Thanks to GAOTD for giving this away, but no thanks to the company who is scamming people 30 bucks.

Tried this. It wasn't as great as I hoped it'd be. I've had my eyes on @MAX Tray Player for quite a while and its charm is that it has the play etc buttons (you can even define which gets shown and which not) on your task bar. You'd be able to see current song played and all that. So, I hoped this would maybe have something in common, seeing as this was also a (paid, but today free) alternative.

This IconMP3 is just a small icon in the tray bar. Rightclicking on it would give you the controls in a small menu, it is just... not very impressive. Many MP3 players can already do this. It was also a slight bit clumsy, and the playlist seemed a bit iffy to me.

SysTrayPlay got mentioned in the comments and I gave it a shot, since that one was freeware. I have to say, thanks for mentioning that little gem. :) It also sits in the tray bar, but it has the additional minibar that really is very thin and has the bare essentials (play, stop, etc, title of currently played song) that you can dump somewhere without bothering you. In fact, the 'dock to active window' is a very smart solution.

So, my suggestion would be:
For a real player in your taskbar, look at @MAX Tray Player (they have a trial period). But it is not free.
For a free alternative that has a little player visible -somewhere at all times- without bothering you, SysTrayPlay is a very nice one.
And for this IconMP3... *shrug* It's free today, so if you want, grab it. But it doesn't seem to be worth it when better alternatives (free and paid) are available.

I'm now happy, having a tiny MP3 player, SysTrayPlay. :)

Anyways...Why? Why give us an MP3 player when there are SO MANY OPTIONS out there? I'm not even kidding, Apple has itunes, Windows has WMP, and Linux users can download MediaMonkey or Winamp. Hell, even if you dont want itunes or WMP, then just download MM or Winamp.

Ah well, thanks anyways.

What can I say....
Well it is not spectacular but as a freebie it aint that bad. As many have said, there is no way I would be looking to pay (sorry to the developers) as there is too many other alternatives free out there from small 1 man develpoers to billion dollar multinationals (I don't need to mention names?) so it is quite good at adding a playlist from a directory, real quick.
