The page says there is more than 2 hours left in the giveaway, but when I run setup.exe, it tells me that the "giveaway period for this software is over" and won't proceed. I have tried disabling/re-enabling my Panda antivirus, but it didn't make any difference.

No problem installing. Mine go to the download folder. Tried to install Software Informer (very sneaky). Giveaway code was already in program. Looks good so far.

The problem I had with Icecream Ebook Reader Pro was that some some cases when viewing an epub file the photos were too big which pushed the text at the bottom of the picture off the page.

When I had converted the epub to pdf there was no problems with the pdf file so I could read the text under the photos.

I do like the clear reading it provides..

I usually use Calibre for my library and upload my ebooks to my ereader. And it has been really an effective tool to do so. Unlike the Kobo which would never recognize my epubs ebooks.
So, I decided to try this new software. I have a notebook with Windows 10 Home on. Download went smoothly. The installation was easy. It took me a bit longer to find the activation (in Settings, select Activate). No problems.
I checked my first ebook. It opened fine. It is a bit small, so I recommend maximizing it.
It is a good software, but it does not beat Calibre. There are more pluggins and I can easily upload it to my device. You can convert free ebooks. Therefore Icecream ebook reader is nice but it does not beat it.

Thank you very much!
Installed without a problem after "pausing protection" of Kaspersky (free), and came up as "PRO" without any intervention. Win XP-PRO-SP3.

Installed twice and can't seem to locate where it was installed ... smh....I usually get a shortcut on my desktop, or am able to search for the app by name. Can't find it anywhere? Any help would be appreciated.

Sammy B, normally you get a screen with install options:

Sammy B, bring up your "my computer" screen and do a search for "Icecream". If it's installed, you'll find out where it is.

Sammy B,

Thanks for the advice Silent Wolf

I installed multiple times on Windows 8.1 computer. Something definitely wrong with installation file or a compatibility issue. Tried everything ... installed in programs file folder, looked for installation in add/remove programs and it just wasn't there, searched my computer for file name, etc..

Would have really loved to try out this software .. looked like an excellent eBook alternative for my uses. Really disappointed.

Try to install with Admin-rights.
Or try to install in different folder ex. in C:\Program-ICE
Try to install a demo and test if it works.

I know nothing about eBooks. I have a lot of them but only ones I got for free: Kindle books on Amazon, Disney storybooks on Disney Store Central, or on Bookshout. I have no idea if they can be downloaded or what format they are in. When I look at them, I just log in and use the web interface.

Question: Will this Icecream Ebook Reader Pro let me download my Kindle, Disney Store Central, and/or Bookshout eBooks to read offline? If yes, this program would be useful to me. If not, it won't. Thank you.

Settings/(No Activate Pro anywhere) Top of window says Ebook reader PRO. With no place to add registration # I am hoping it took place automatically somehow.

For those who have not converted their library to Calibre I think this Icecream reader/library would be much easier to import and use as it does not recopy all the files into its own structure (as Calibre does). Though you'd still want Calibre around for ebook conversions between types. And you'd need a better PDF reader unless the Icecream folks work on optimizing their PDF code. (Check into sumatraPDF for a fast free PDF reader).

Pros:
Remembers where you are in each book/magazine. Can read epub, mobi, and pdf.
Can adjust font typeface, type size, line spacing and screen colors.

Limitations:
Does not read books in kindle azw3, djvu, rtf, doc or CBR files.
It does read PDF files but is very sluggish turning pages and this is on a I7 with a fast video card.

Its Library portion is rather more limited in field content than Calibre nor can it read metadata from the internet or add/modify covers as Calibre does.

This program would be improved if it could index types of ebooks it does not know how to display and then let you configure an external reader to launch for those other types (such as CBR comics, or djvu ebooks). And it would also be nice if you perhaps preferred a different external reader (such as summatra for PDF) for one that it actually does support.

All in all a good program, well worth the download and use as long as you understand its functions and limitations.

Downloaded fine, followed THE INSTRUCTIONS in the "read-me" file, entered the serial in the "activate pro" box via C&P and Robet's yer mother's brother. Dunno why so many people continually have problems installing keys and such... a bit of reading will almost always suss things out. Now to see what (if aught) this thing does...

I had a previous version (4.35 from Feb. 2017) and this new one installed right over the top of it. I didn't even have to enter the registration code, it already has the 5.07 PRO activated. Here is the changelog over the previous versions: https://icecreamapps.com/Ebook-Reader/changelog.html

Great layout. I have tried other software like these, but they were not intuitive. This one gives a lot of info on the file you are reading. Folders and adding books is easy. It reads different type of files, which is unique in my experience. And then you can bookmark, highlight and more. You can also print, which is unique too in my experience and very useful.
This is going to be so useful to organize reading stuff, from work to pleasure reading. I can also organize chapters from my books and articles from my blog. It would be nice to be able to add documents too. Thanks GAOTD and Icecream Team!
Only one concern: there in no button on the settings that allows to enter the registration code. At least, it does not show on my computer.

Just a quick information : I had a previous version instaled ( 4.35 ). It instaled this new version authomatically on my drive D: which is great and brought all my previous version library, which is also great. Installed as a PRO version without even asking for the license. So, only good things.
Attaboy Icecream!! and thanks!

When you add an ebook to your library with Icecream, does that create a second copy on your computer, or does this program simply point to the copy already on your computer. Making a second copy like Calibre does is OK if you have a few hundred ebooks. But if you have thousands, it's a real deal breaker.
Programs like this never mention this important aspect. Trusting a program like this and deleting the original copy is not an option.

Reply   |   Comment by Ray  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

I think it just points to the file. I tested it by adding a pdf and then deleting the original file, when I tried to access it from the program it gave a "file not found" error.

Reply   |   Comment by D  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+11)

Ray, No it does not automatically make a copy. I know this because (I already have Icecream) a few months ago I cleaned out my download folder, and now Icecream cannot find my ebooks. While that is my fault, it would have been nice if the reader had made a copy in its own folder instead of just a pointer to my downloads folder. That aside, it is a solid program IMO.

Settings => Activate PRO version, bottom line...

Reply   |   Comment by Mira  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

Mira, No such option on my installation. Reading other observations, it appears it used the info from the old version to go "pro" without note. Having an "About" entry in settings would have revealed this but there isn't any. Thought for future generations...

Installed (Win7) but nowhere to enter serial? Not in settings as stated and clicking anything else just takes you to their website.

Ray, I had the same problem and asked them at their website and they said sorry they dont provide tech support for the free version!

Ray, look at the bottom right corner and click on Settings. There you can click on Activate Pro and enter the key from the readme file.

Ray, In the Readme there is a clue:
".. then go to Settings => Activate PRO version, and register the software using the registration key ..."

Reply   |   Comment by Ootje  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+9)

Ray, if the Ebook reader title says "Ebook reader PRO", and you have the previous giveaway version of "Ebook reader PRO", most likely the previous key has been activated this version too.
