#29 Nowhere on the page is there a click to "Register" in blue next to the the question mark. An option to register is just not there. "About" doesn't show registartion active either. The GOTD offer is badged "Pro", but "Pro" appears nowhere on the app unless it does after registration. Anyone know how to get round this?

I'm going to install and try but after years of trying I have not found "any" recovery program that actually works==>to recover files from an emptied wastebasket. Even when the recovery was on a brand new hard drive (should be no fragmentation issues) and when no additional writing to the drive occurred.

Only one paid for software came close with about a 30% recovery with the 70% being lost or garbled....meaning non-contiguous file fragments only.

Having tried about a dozen programs.......I assume this will be no different?

I'll install but not use it until the next frustrating need arises. YES==backup is the best recovery, but I only backup about once a month. Irritating...since I assume the data "is" really there. Why can't it be recovered?

Downloaded, installed and registered without any problems. Straight forward. Just scan. No options or settings. Scanned a 500 GB drive in 10 minutes. Found only deleted ico files, however the program does not tell me what state these files are in and if they are recoverable or not. That's no good. Don't what to waste time saving these if they're just crap. I only tried the (Deleted File Recovery). Not (Deep Scan) though.

* For those of you asking where to enter the reg code, there should be a large 'Register' in blue right next to the blue question mark, (?) on the top right side of the program. I noticed that once entered and excepted by the program, this word 'Register' will disappear. Possibly those without this word are somehow registered already, like in the case of a previous install, or something.

Sorry everyone, spoke too soon. There are Options to the program under (Deep Scan), like files to choose to look for, and where from.
Just tried it. Apologies.

I had a previous version of the software from GOTD. I uninstalled it before installing the new one. Now I can't register the new version. After starting the software and selecting a recovery module the input screen for the serial should come up, but it doesn't. I did a registry scan with the uninstall program, which found 2 keys and deleted them. what else can I do? Please help.
Thx.

This review was originally written on 9/29/2016 for RS Photo Recovery.
"While on vacation, a portable card reader turned all my irreplaceable pictures into 8 folders and files with strange characters that are not even on a normal keyboard. They looked like this @duú-÷- and this ¦-kSG+.

I tried several recovery programs paid and free (Pandora, Recuva, Hetman, Ashampoo, 7 different ones in all) and the only one that restored my pictures was Testdisk 7.0/photorec. I kept the SD card just to test other recovery programs. Today's offering did restore the all the pictures. But Testdisk 7.0/photorec is free, so why pay for something that does the same job?"

Today's program iCARE DATA RECOVERY PRO 7.9, worked just as well. I set it up to recover all file types and raw files. Of the 11969 files it found at 47.13GB, I told it to save 9736 files at 29.19GB. These were divided up into 32 folders of 300 found files each and 1 folder of 134 files Besides the old deleted pictures it found, it did recover all 197 of the vacation pictures that I was missing and they were in the first 3 folders . But, it recovered 4 of each image for a total of 788 pictures. And these 4 images were in 3 different resolutions. 2 were the original resolution of 4608x3456 but the sizes were different 5.20 MB and 5.17 MB, 1 was a thumbnail resolution of 160x120, and the 3rd was 1440x1080. To sort and delete the 3 other images would add additional time to the under an hour that the program took to complete. I found the actual processing time to be a plus for the program.

I always spread the word to people I know, never through FB as people don't see to trust it.
So I had the download link email to me, downloaded, unzipped, disactivated AVG and installed. The first window "this software brough to you by FOTD" os someting similar lasts a second or two then I get a window that says Successfully Activated. Register your copy using following data etc.
I click on close and my browser opens with a window that says "iCare Data Recovery Pro 7.9 activated — what next?" What next indeed? Where is the program? No desktop icon, no start menu item, not even in control panel do I see the program installed.
Not the first time I have this problem with GOTD software, pity it seems to hapen every time I think the software particularly interesting...

Norton checked zip-file and unzipped files, nothing spotted, I assured Windows it was safe though from another computer, but installation had hardly started when Norton put his foot in, so game over. Norton spotted some sort of adware ingredient and could not be won over.
Being the backupper-type of user I called it a day.
The advice to shut off security software is one I would never give to anybody. Undoutedly false positives exist, but with software from unknown makers I prefer to stay on the safe side.

Karen James,
No I don't think so.
Windows should "see" the HD and give it a stationletter.
Maybe after plugging in the HD, go to configuration, System management, diskmagement and look for all the drives. And maybe assign the USB-disk.
Or read this site:

May I ask the developers to provide more detailed description about how their programme works? There are a lot of software pieces that perform the same or similar tasks and I want to know how better and/or different it is when compared to other similar software (for instance, how about a bootup disc to run unbootable discs, what exactly does the software analyse – sector by sector or otherwise, etc.)
Regards
Andy

Reply   |   Comment by Marek  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Marek, Recovery can be even worst and messier if you do not have a full back. Example RAW recovery will recover every file and assign a name from file1 to file200000 or more. You have to be able from looking inside the file to know what was the original file name, impossible and lengthy process.
Format Recovery is useful if you have formatted a USB drive and want to retrieve the data, you can not use this on the original hard drive if you can not boot on C drive.
Deep Scan Recovery is the commandeered method, but it will take a day or 2 if you are recovering a whole drive 1TB or more.

All personal use recovery software works on sector recovery only.

Do not rely on a software to solve your mistakes, backup is your best recovery.

Reply   |   Comment by Harris  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

Dear Harris, thank you for your reply and advice. I am perfectly aware of the requirement to backup my resources and I do that on a daily basis. I have backed them up for years using images produced by Paragon’s software.
But you won’te deny that occassionally it may happen that a piece of buggy software deletes a file without your knowing about that or I make a mistake, whatsoever, and the fact, that a file was deleted is discovered much later. Such event may affect a newly downloaded file and happen before my making backup so no backup will have the file in it. (I do not use software that backups files in real time as I have not found any software reliable or "light" enough to be used without killing my processor or producing terabytes of backups. (My backup library is 3 TB, anyway...)
If the file was in my comp before last backup, I may, of course, see to my backups, but how many of them you might need if the deletion occurred long ago and no one knows, when.
And that’s when a good recovery software should come in.
If such unfortunate event occurs, I replace my disck affected by deletion with its copy to work on it, and attach the affected disc to my laptop to get files recovered. I use GetDataBack and StrongRecovery. (I tried some other software as well, but the two seem superior.) That’s true – recovery lasts long, but if a file is really badly needed, than that’s the "price" I may pay, as the recovery process does not disturby my routine computer tasks. The two applications recover files really well with their names, recovery perspective and preview, and do not procude an indefinite number of files with meaningless names (as such "meaningless" files in a reasonable number seem to be only, the so called, detached or lost files).
But I always look out for still better software as the technology develops and my software may get outdated sometime in the future and that’s why I asked my question
Thanks for your replay, again. Cheers, Andy

Hi VJ,
We've checked the registration on several machines before starting the giveaway. We run additional check whenever a user reports on an issue. This time everything works perfectly fine. Please, make sure you copy the key without additional symbols (including blank spaces). It's better to copy the key from the readme.txt file since the code is pretty long and does not fit in a sngle line of the post-installation pop-up. If the issue persists, you may try contacting the developer directly at support@icare-recovery.com

Sorry for the inconvenience.

TK, no need to implying all who've had this issue are stupid and ignoring the obvious, except you of course, but thanks for covering for the lack of thought on the developer's part to mention no register button in some circumstances. Its obvious to look for a register button and also obviously its too much to ask for the developer to mention this or at least add the 'Pro' indication to the installed version. The developers bragamony while failing to mention this anomaly in place of answering a valid question does get irritating. They'll love to hear about how you handled an 'overly aggressive' person for simply calling attention to obvious failings back at your safe space.

can it recover shredded files?

Reply   |   Comment by Taylor  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-5)

Taylor, it cannot recover a shredded file (as it's been definitively wiped), but it may be able to find an older version of the same file if you have not wiped all open space since you last edited the file. When you open a file, make a change and save it, the new version often does not overwrite the old one. So, there's always a chance at recovery. However, the longer it's been since your last edit, the greater the chance that something else will have overwritten the old one.

Rev. Al,
2 things:

1 - I've read the al little more and thart does noit explain why yoiu do not offer a direct link through the the website except for a link via Facebook. noew, I first have to send a request via email everytime I want to download because Facebook is blockesd from my network due to security and privacy issues. As stated, this was not nescessary in the past and I simply do not understand why
. Also now I cannno longer download anonimously,

2. I did download through an emailed link and requested this with 3 different email addresses and each xzip package was not the problem, (crc were ok each time) nor the antivirus and other securiy software. A little debugging learns that the gcd file is not correct. The setup.exe ran fine until it began probing "Setup.gcd".

Mario, That is POOR advice. Why do you advocate that others put their system at risk? Downloading/executing files from the internet is when you NEED your firewall and AV services. You should be ashamed.

Reply   |   Comment by Anna Kjiels  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Grandpappy, I've tried to install this on Win 10 x64, four times, and on Win7 x32 FIVE times -- three of them by copying the setup and GCD files to a DOS folder, and starting from THERE. And every single time an MS announcement pops up saying, happily, "The programme has stopped working." Well, the installation never even STARTED, ANY way. So certainly the programme is not working.

People often say to try turning off your AV -- but how, and where?? Until I know where to find that, and how to turn it off, I can't even see if THAT is the problem....

Any useful advice will be gratefully received.
