Not being a professional IT person I find the giveaways using the new (to me) ext. .gcd not worth the effort. I tried activating the old way with install then activate. Was not successful. Gave up and uninstalled. Maybe GAOTD should give us a heads up on offers with this type of extension or maybe direct us on how to better install. Thank you for the offer. Must decline on this one.

Anyone else having issues with the software not recognizing some SD cards or USB flash drives? I am running Win 7 Home Premium.

I am glad that developer felt its necessary to rerun this and two thumbs up for them.
Unlike the last time, download, instalation, activation was piece of cake this time on Win 7.
I am running a 32 GB CF that I accidentally formated with memory full with RAW pictures on it. Estimated time to finish was 3 hours. In one hour that has elpased so far, it has completed one third of partition. I am not how much more time would be needed then to write back and save data on HD. Looks like going fine so far but I don't think I can reprot back before GAOTD time is over for this download so must say I am happy so far. I have recovered the same card's data previously and took over night to finish it fully.
Happy with it so far. More happy that developer actually took care of prior bug and cared to reintruduce it for GAOTD community. I am prety sure I'll use it in future also and will not unistall this one.

Hi Everyone!
There aren't too many comments to find my answer. I'm having trouble finding any place to put the key code in. The title-bar says iCare Card Recovery Pro with no reference to trial or anything. I'm wondering if somehow it has become registered. I checked the About file, but saw nothing referring to registration.
The program itself works wonderfully. Thank you very much, iCare and GAOTD for this offer!

Crashed on Windows 7 X64. Three times in a row, some memory allocation violations e.g. 64 bit support isn't 100% I'd say... Reinstalled on ye olde 32-bit XP and used the same SD cards. Runs like the wind.
Did a good job on most cards, it 'recovered' what was still left behind (not much but oh well...), but it failed to recognize my Super Talent 8 GB Pico-C usb drive. With Sandisk SD's no problems. Too bad it didn't work when I plugged in my camera directly, I had to take out the card and insert it in my PC. My phone (LG) isn't recognized either and nowadays that's an entirely new market to win. Seriously, it's all smartphones with (almost) full HD cameras these days so any software that can protect, recover or backup your phone will be an instant hit. Add the feature to recover from a phone's internal memory storage (not the card) and your brand will become a household name.
Bad that it doesn't run on 64-bit, atleast on my end it doesn't. Other than that, I'm keeping this. Thanks iCare and GOTD.

Ok, it recognizes my 8BG USB flash drive.
Still unable to see my 8 BG SDHC card (Sandisk).
Maybe next year...

Installed fine on Win 7 64bit after "following instructions" and created folder then extracted Zip contents into new folder. May have to close program after registering to get rid of "Buy Now" button. Program works good, Thanks.

XP SP3
v2.0
very basic interface
it is NOT resizeable
"Support Center" opens IE, regardless of your default browser
the program DOES have a CHM help file,
but no obvious way to open it (F1 works)
because the GAOTD installer won't run sandboxed on XP,
had to download the trial from icare
installs into directory of your choice, 8 MB
looks clean, though it does register an OCX, dsoframer.ocx
(an uninstall should unregister it)
seems to be no selectable options, methods used during the scan itself
after the scan you're presented with a tree
no method to "expand all"
files can be displayed in either list or thumbnail view
thumbnail was VERY slow
no mouseover on some of the buttons to tell you what they do
(what /do/ they do?)
all kinds of information presented; name, size, type, & 3 sets of dates
but most of it you cannot see because you cannot maximize the window!
gives no "confidence" factor as to the (valid) recoverability of a file
looks like it differentiates deleted vs not deleted files,
but it could be a bit more clearer
it recovers files to a subdirectory of your chosen output directory
thats OK
gives you overall totals of what it found, & totals for what you
have selected for recovery
no confirmation dialog after recovery
(such that if you did a recovery & weren't really paying attention,
you might say, did i or did i not do it yet?)
it does not remember your last outputDir, so you much work your way
back to it again
consecutive recovery attempts create auto-incremented directory trees
obviously you need to go through its recovery & verify if the files
are valid or not
it works
though certainly could be made better
they have a free version which can recover up to 2GB of data
(considering the cards i tried were 8 & 64 MB, heh)

This looks like a different file (which is good , since the last one had a bogas set-up) this comes in at 10.14mb as a Zip file and last time it was 12.65mb as a Zip file. So I hope they have gone back to a normal install/set-up. Thanks, CapeCodMediaKing

I downloaded this last week. It showed up right on the very day I became aware I needed it. The install went easy (Win 7 Home Premium 64 Bit). Last night I used it, and found the videos I needed off my SDHD card. One thing I noted: although it found my videos, it only showed JPGs in the found files section. I had to instead go to the section where it shows the drive contents, and drill down to the Stream folder (I have a Panasonic camera that takes 720P HD movies in .MTS format). And there they were. I selected the ones I was missing, clicked Save, and then it asked me where to put them. It went very smoothly, and the movies played fine once I had recovered them. I would suggest that iCare either adds more formats to automatically discover, or gives you the option of specifying the format you are looking for (if that was there, I didn't see it). Overall, a big thumbs up!

Any help?

re #6 Peter B - any idea WHY today's rerun package is smaller than the one last week? Is it a different version or what?

After last week's fiasco, I found Pandora Recovery. It's FREE and works well. I had an SD card that had the format corrupted and had to be re-formatted. I was able to recover the photos with Pandora.

Win XP SP 3 ,Installed and registered ok , without AVG stopping it (Hurahh ).
I note original 23rd August offering was 12956kb while this one is
10,387 kb
I unzipped the file , extracted to where I want, which then says it is activated ( no it isn,t ) , but that is before I have then separately extracted the pain ( new ) file in the wrapper that has to go in the same folder.
Copied and pasted reg key. It is worth opening and closing a few times to double check it registered properly. It recognised drive plugged into usb port. Not had time to see what it finds , but along with other tools it is worth getting now, just in case you lose something.

For those who were unable to register this giveaway when it was run the first time, if you did not uninstall the program after you couldn't get it to register you don't need to uninstall now and reinstall with this new file. Just download, unzip and use the new license code provided in the new read me text file. This new license code should now activate the software you downloaded previously.
I couldn't register mine before but I didn't uninstall it. I just waited till this re-run and used the new license code. It registers without any problems now.

It seems that they're starting the comments over. I'm not going to test iCare myself, but before claiming that it doesn't see your drives/cards, if you're running Vista or higher, try running the program as an administrator, necessary for many recovery programs. To do so permanently, right-click on the program's icon, select Properties, Compatibility, Privilege Level, Run this program as an administrator.
