I can't quite understand why 52% of people are against this software, it works really well and one of the finest for style.
It's really nice bit of software, I've tried a million and one of these types of things and this is one of the best, far better than the over hyped Wow slider.

To Kevin from #61: Sorry Kevin, I think I had misunderstood you. Yes, the "Drag and drop images here" does work, but not like what you expected, not from Windows Explorer into the file drop box, but just from file folder to the drop box, which means you should narrow the software window and drag images directly from the file folder. This might be a little inconvenient, so we will improve this, or do as you suggested. Thanks!

To Imagical from #59: Thank you for your comment. Yes, if you don't want the images to be cropped, you can choose "auto fit" instead of "full fill", then the images will display completely. But one disadvantage is that it leaves the left and right sides blank, which would have an impact on the slider aesthetics.

I know this giveaway has expired, but I need to correct Giovanni's comment at #42.

Yes, Giovanni, the free version of WOW Slider DOES have a watermark! I know because I use it - and WOW Slider's own website clearly says so. See Downloads and Licenses - "Unbranded slides - Option to remove the WOW Slider watermark and add your own logo to images" is NOT available in the free version.

Many thanks for this software. I am a newbie but I did find this relatively easy to use. If possible I would however like the slider to be more fluid, that is, to be able to resize so that images arent cropped. I realise that the size and many other options can be altered, and I think that's one of the [many] best things about this offer but it could be made easier for what I assume is the target group. All in all I think this is a terrific piece of software for people who are new to this type of thing. Would I have bought it had I known how it worked? Yes. Many thanks - iMagical

To Ernie Bell from #56: We just upgraded to Version 1.0.3 yesterday, but we started this Giveaway the day before. Version 1.0.3 is more powerful with more templates. You can upgrade to Version 1.0.3 by downloading it from our website (http://www.hislider.com/index.html) and use the license code to register. But please note that we don't promise that you can use this license code to register later versions.

To Hislider:
1- What are differences between today's GAOTD [Commercial version 1.0.2] and the current download version on your website [version 1.0.3] ?
2- Any idea why when I installed using the GAOTD files that the license key was already entered and it is different than the license code given in the GAOTD readme file? Program seems to work OK and it shows license as 'Commercial License 1.0.2', but I did find the situation to be a bit odd. Looking forward to using HiSlider. efb

To Kevin from #34, first of all, thank you so much for your detailed elaboration and suggestion. No, currently Hi Slider does not support Drag and Drop to arrange image files, but we will take it into account in future development. And thank you again for your explanation for the load time.

To Null from #36, yes, you can copy the key from the text file and paste. If that doesn’t work, that may be because you also copied the pre-fix or suffix spacing.

To Sue from #37, yes Sue, slider is something like a flash banner, but with more advantages I think. For more info, you can go to our website, or view our demos to see what it’s like.
Home page: http://hislider.com/
Demos: http://www.hislider.com/showcase.html

To Michael from #40, thanks for your comment, Michael. Sometimes the output image file size is big but because of the large added file size, if you want it to be smaller, you can go to "Options>>Application Options>>Image Quality. But just as you can expect, if you lower the quality, the image will not be as clear as original file, though the image size reduces.

To Greenapple from #41, I really appreciate your positive comment. Hope our software could do some help. Thanks!

To Rich from #43, thank you so much for sharing a good way for keeping the file size down.

To Goofus from #46, I have to say thank you, thank you so much. And your comments, feedbacks and suggestions will absolutely help us develop a better Hi Slider.

Re: To Mike from #18:
We will take PHP coding in consideration and will add it in the later versions. Thanks

To Pixelriffic from #28, that may be an issue in Version 1.0.2, but we’ve just released Version 1.0.3, please download it from our website or here: http://www.hislider.com/download/hi-slider.exe
BTW, V1.0.3 provides more templates.

To Teflon from #29 & #31, regarding to html, body{height:100%; margin:0px}, we will fix it in the next version. And if possible, could you please give us the link to your existing php echo code? We need this to test and improve this feature. Your help would be highly appreciated.

10 templates. Besides, we have fixed some issues and improved some features. And just as Kevin from #34 said, the image

size does matter to the load time. Anyway, we will keep improving our product.

We have tried all day long to get the plugins generated by HiSlider to work in Wordpress. There is a flaw in the programming which calls for a "js" folder which is not created when Wordpress creates the files and folders that go inside the Uploads folder and also the HiSlide folder inside the WP-Content folder.
Two php files in particular are not programmed right, the hislider.php file and the class-hislider-model.php file. There may be others that have faulty programming as well, but even though we understand php and what it is doing, we don't know enough to fix this ourselves.
I would be very surprised if anyone in this forum can come on here and say that they have used HiSlider today successfully in creating Wordpress plugins. It would be impossible considering that the paths that are created lead to folders that do not exist. So don't waste your time. Wait for the upgrade. This isn't ready for prime time, that's for sure.

To Fillawea from #26, thanks a lot for your feedback and we will fix the issues. And about the responsiveness, first you need to enable this option in Basic Settings, which I think you've already done. However, we also tested the Preview function for many times but found no problems. May I ask what versions your Firefox, Chrome and Opera are? Your reply would be appreciated.

#37 Sue — If you don't know what a slider is, you don't need this software. Seriously.

For anyone who develops Web sites, this is a handy, easy to use tool for creating jQuery sliders. There are literally hundreds of free/paid jQuery slider plugins around, requiring varying amounts of knowledge of HTML, CSS, and client-side scripting to implement.

This one requires little knowledge to create or implement fairly nice sliders. The various image fitting options don't appear to work all that well, but then, I always recommend sizing and optimizing images first in a graphics editor before using them on the Web anyway, so that's a minor issue. I doubt seriously that I would have paid the usual asking price for the program, but, hey, for free, what's not to like.

This software does what it claims. It is very easy to use. I have not tried to get it to work on a website. However the instructions seem to be pretty good for doing so.

I would also agree that keeping the file size down on each image will help to load them on your website. There are plenty of programs that will batch file resize your images. I use Irfan View as my image viewer and it does a good job of resizing. I just tried File Minimizer mentioned before and that works well. My wife is a photographer. I will resize her images for the web from 3-4 mb to 70k and they still look great on the web. They would not in print.

Thanks for the software. If it works well on the web I'm in for buying it in the future.

Thanks for today's giveaway! I had to comment because I hate to see so many thumbs-down on a very good free offering simply because it's a niche product and not useful for most people. I've JUST started learning html and writing web pages (using wordpress), and this has gotten me excited about another possibility to add more professionalism and efficiency in displaying product info.

Installation worked like a charm, unzip, run setup, register. And it says it's the commercial license. Used a few pics to create a slider, took some seconds, NICE!! with a preview "slider" and thumbnails on the bottom, images are selectable randomly or left to right. possibility to set a url for each pic separately if clicked on (or apply to all).Just have to find out the optimal pic size thing yet/ I think I like that a lot so far.

It comment #34 Kevin makes an excellent point regarding picture size just in case people are unaware of an excellent free program to reduce them is available at the following site;-

http://www.balesio.com/fileminimizerpictures/eng/download.php

To give you an example a file of 3.4 MB was reduced to 105Kb, a 96% reduction and on a typical webpage the difference is not noticeable.

I have been using WOW Slider for some time, and find Hi-Slider to be just as good for a lower price. I would certainly buy it if there were more templates to choose from. The only complaint I have is that it is slow loading the first graphic. I'm not used to seeing that "loading..." preloader these days. Once it's loaded it runs just fine. The purchase price of the Pro version is only $49 at the moment, and I think that is a good deal.

I cannot get the slider to properly display at all within my existing php echo code..

it DOES display in IE 8 but that's it..

The original index.html file that it generates also does NOT display anything without html,body{height:100%; margin:0px;}

so as soon as you remove that style that affects the html and body css (AFFECTS THE WHOLE PAGE), it does NOT display in anything but in IE. And this it not part of the installation at all.

Now i have to sit here and figure out what the deal is with this. It is a good slider when you look at the preview, but installation is definitely not as easy as i would have hoped

I appreciate the free software GOTD and the vendors offer even when I don't need it. Don't mind being the guinea pig sometimes for a "work in progress" beta that needs a lot of polishing.
I also appreciate Giovanni's daily efforts to find comparative software. What I don't like at all is his increasingly smarmy attitude that insults the vendors and my intelligence. The phrase "getting quite full of himself" comes to mind. The phrase "Dial it down, Giovanni" comes to mind as well.

Please fix the misspellings in the "Apply All" pop up box. It should be "apply" not "applly." Under the Lock Button on the toolbar, please fix the screen that keeps showing "input your license code." When you go to Help | About it shows the proper license information. It should show properly in both places. Also, the preview function lacks responsiveness. It works properly in IE, but not for Firefox, Chrome, or Opera. It is extremely slow when attempting to preview in non Microsoft browsers. Thanks!

@17 - Giovanni

I find your posts unhelpful at the best of times. This time your information regarding WOW Slider is not accurate.

WOW Slider is only free for personal use, and sliders made with the free version include a watermark.

The commercial version is $USD69.00 for a SINGLE website, or $USD99.00 for unlimited websites. It is an excellent product - at least you were partly correct - but the free version is limited, and the unlimited commercial version is much more expensive than Hi Slider's Pro version.

This is an excellent tool. I use these types of slides a lot on my websites and this software makes it really easy to put together. Slides make it easy to show lots of content on a page without the user having to scroll down or go to another page. I used to use flash banners, but have had to give up because they can't be viewed on an iPad. I would highly recommend this software- loads of customisation available. 10/10.

re 15: thanks for the response, but this is not what I mean

what I would like to do is to feed the requests for photos and descriptions from PHP or javascript code running on the site, rather than to set it all up in advance

so Hislider defines the layouts, then the content is defined by the website at runtime.

If you own a blog or website, I think that today's giveaway is a must have tool you should not miss, since sliding horizontal panels have been one of the most popular web design trend over the past few years (and it's actually very much used nowadays) to make a website more attractive in order to engage more readers.

THUMBS UP!!

But 70 $?? Come on....be serious man!!

Wanna an EASIER to USE (supports tons of visual effects and professionally made templates) and above all FREE ALTERNATIVE (Wordpress slider plugin and Joomla slider module also available)?

Installed and registered with no problems on Win7 x64. I have some experience with this sort of program, so I found it very easy to use. The total size of my project, i.e., the files I would upload to my website (16 MB in this case), was about the same as the photos themselves (16 MB all together). They also do a good job of explaining how to integrate the slideshow into your web page. I installed the program just out of curiousity since I really have no use for it, but I give it a double thumbs up.
