1- I know how to convert a home video from the .mov format to .avi format.
2- The issue is, when completed, the picture is distored horizonatllly? what am I doing wrong?
3- Is there a way to compress the video without losing quality ?
4- Can I combine 2 videos once I have the conversion and compression done as dirceted?

thanks and please advise.

I've used a older version of this program, version 13 and found that the program faithfully does anything it claims to do.

There are a few minor improvements that could be added:
At the moment the subtitles are recorded during the conversion, if subtitles are selected. There needs to be an option to turn off and on the subtitles when the person is viewing the resulting video.
Only one audio track can be recorded.

Down loaded and installed...no problem. I thought I would try a 1 hour YouTube video....and it made a MP4, just like WonderFox said it would. But, it is slow! took almost 3 hrs. To be fair, I have a WIN7 64bit and 8 GB ram. It will use 98% of the CPU. You really need a more powerful PC to make this a viable program.

I always appreciate comments by GOTD users who actually test out the program.

Installed quickly on my WIN 10 16RAM PC, but still limited video/audio enhancement options.
Still same ongoing issues with their downloader, VPN or no VPN SAME ISSUES, tried with 4-5 HD youtube & daily motion videos, (all videos failed in Wonderfox analyze or download) similar video programs were a breeze, always issues with Wonderfox downloader to work, always errors issues, either Error: say check your internet connection only, no other Reason for error. My internet is fine , no problems with any other programs. Or just download Failed, no reason given.
Not sure why they would release this old version that still has many bugs and issues.

was unable to get the GPU encoding to work ( yes the check mark was there) running a GTX 970
rebooted the machine also
tried MPEG4, hv265, h264 using a h264 file as an example . all that was being used was my CPU.
there was no activity on the GPU . ( was using MSI afterburner )
tried DVDFab 9 and work just fine.

Reply   |   Comment by maddog  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

maddog, gpu acceleration if it works at all on target host GPU's is dependant upon the encoding using a hardware supported codec and to my knowledge no 3rd party developer has produced their own codecs but rely solely upon the GPU vendors SDK sample GPU accelerated codecs, usually only h264. Also there are various GPU acceleration SDK revisions which render different driver revisions support obsolete or incompatible.
So if they use Cuda SDK that works on older drivers they will not work on drivers with NVEnc(ode) libraries that use the lastest Cuda SDK that is designed to work with current drivers in higher end cards and visa versa...It's pretty much down to a roll of the dice if any given programs GPU acceleration supports any given Nvida GPU and driver combination.

Ootje, thanks once again for sharing your real-world tests. Conversion capabilities don't appear good for this software! Would like to see the developer's explanation, are there some video types that work better than others?

And I can guess why it won't download YouTube videos, they change their process often and have more things locked down than ever before. Unless a program is updated often, it simply won't work on YouTube. Anyone have a different take on this?

Reply   |   Comment by Jim Koup  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Jim Koup,
I am just guessing. It could be your firewall, as it was in my case.

Reply   |   Comment by consuella  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Jim Koup, the setup.exe portion of the wrapper only tries to make the authorising connection to the GAOTD server the once so if your firewall pops up a prompt to allow the network access or not it had already block THAT connection attempt and even if you aprove internet access for SETUP.EXE it will fail that time and the program will throw the error alert you saw, now if you do not let the firewall remember your choice for the program the request, block and ask and give permission loop will happen each time you run the setup.exe program... you must let the firewall remember the choice and re-run the setup.exe If you are not getting prompted to allow the connection or not then you'd probably need to temporarily disable outbound connection filtering on your firewall and try again. You could also have Internet Explorer or Outlook switched to offline mode and that could also disable setup.exe from being able to make outbound connections too.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Jim Koup,

As for downloading from YouTube, it does download provided that your Firewall does not block the program. I agree the error message (Error! Please check your network connection, then try again) is a poor description of the error, because so many seem to think it implies their basic Internet Connection, which their browser proves is working. A check does not consist of seeing if your browser can connect to the Internet. It means you need to check your network connection for the program attempting to access the Internet; in this case, the WonderFox HD Video Converter Factory Pro program (WF-HDVCFP). Of course your Firewall allows your browser to access to the Internet, but it may block other programs. I found that by default, my Firewall (WinPrivacy) was blocking the program. After allowing access, the program was able to download from YouTube.

My ASUS ROG Maximus Extreme VIII died on me, and does not allow access even to BIOS, so everything I tested was on an old XP computer, with older graphics card (way before 4k). Since the program claims it can download 4k videos, I chose a 4k sample file on YouTube. By default, WF-HDVCFP suggested a size of 1280x720/mp4, however using the drop-down, I was able to select the 4k option (3820x2160 webm). When the download was complete, it is listed in the Tasks list. At the left of the item is a Play button (right-pointing triangle). The background of the Play button is typically a snapshot of the first frame of the video; mine was black, but that is understandable since I downloaded this onto a computer that does not have a high resolution video card. Regardless, I clicked on the Play button but was instantly informed there was an error: List index out of bounds. Also, VLC player could not play the file either.

I wondered if I could at least do a convert on the 4k file. Attempting a convert, the program also displayed the same List out of bounds error, but an Analyzing bar implies the program was still working. After 30 minutes, I concluded it was not doing anything (very low CPU usage).

I was able to download the 1280 version of the video, and everything worked just fine.

If your computer has the ability to play 4k video, I suspect the program will work with 4k as advertised. I purchased the program some time ago with lifetime updates, so when a better motherboard arrives, I will be able to install this update.

After reading about expiring licenses,i checked my installations. I had about four programs from Wondersoft. I said HAD as i found that all the executables were gone although the folders were still there with support items. I am not saying what happened to them but it is unlikely that i deleted all that... Anyway, i just deleted all the residual junk left behind.

I purchased this program about a year ago, after using a giveaway edition. And I must admit, I use this program constantly. I've never once had it crash on me. The author(s) have been responsive to my questions and have issued new license keys each time the program evolves into a different licensing method. I don't use the YouTube downloader feature- I have another program I prefer for that activity. Overall, I think this program is a solid performer, that [does] receive periodic updates, that [has] a responsive author, and it's been worth the purchase...so-much-so, that I bought a second Wonderfox program (DVD Converter).

I had to disable AVG to get it to install. I right-clicked on the AVG tray icon and switched Protection to off, and then it installed. Before that, it would run the activation program, but the program's install wizard wouldn't launch at all. Windows 10 with the latest AVG.

A few years ago when I needed one of these I downloaded and tried all the converters that were on offer over months of GOTD's. Of them all, I finally settled on this one and bought the WonderFox HD Video Converter Factory Pro Family Pack (3 PCs) package. Never been sorry. The latest version which I have installed is 14.7.

It's easy to use and I've never had a problem with any of the converted videos.

Just sayin. Today's giveaway is 14.3, which is the version I've recently upgraded from and the one I've used many times.

I no longer trust WonderFox giveaways.
They had this and another one a couple of years ago. I even left positive comments on GOTD at the time, describing how easy it was to install and register. Then when I went to use the program a month ago, a message popped up "Not registered. Please buy the licence to use."
I checked the other WonderFox software I had, and got the same result.
So don't believe anything they say about "good for lifetime."

Reply   |   Comment by Bruce  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+36)

Did you contact the author? My installs have also deauthorized themselves after upgrades. The author(s) have to change their licensing method periodically as cracks become available for their software. But I've never once had any problem that wasn't resolved by simply sending them an email along the lines, 'Hi, my software LIC# xxxxx-xxxx-xxx suddenly became unlicensed when I upgraded' Invariably a few hours later, an email arrives with an explanation of why it happened and a new license.

Reply   |   Comment by Johnny  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+12)

Bruce, mine did this as well. I didn't think to email tech support because most of these giveaways specifically state that they don't come with it.

Reply   |   Comment by davies  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-4)

davies, the popup for software informer always come up when the program thinks it has been installed. You probably need to disable your anti virus.

From readme file

IMPORTANT: please note that due to the Themida wrapper usage your installation might be blocked by your antivirus (AVG, Avast or Kaspersky)!

This will result in no program installed on your PC even if your antivirus reports no files are blocked.
In order to install the program, you'll have to temporally disable your antivirus.

If you have Kaspersky antivirus, disable it and restart the computer.
Please make sure it won't start automatically with the computer.
Now please download the program archive once again and try to install it.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

errr not often I need help but what does "It supports up to 160 ftps to help make video smoother." mean? last I heard ftps means a secure type of file transfer protocol in which 160 ftps is meaningless... and if its a typo and they meant fps frames per second how does supporting that make any difference to the videos you get from normal sources that may be 23.75fps or 30fps ... might make a difference with ultra high frame rate 4k action shoots intended to get that optimal 4k photo frame off that high speed activity or conversion to slow-motion frame rate but most other video converters have the option to retain input frame rate so will convert to 160fps or more without any issue.

For those that cannot easily coax the setup.exe/gcd wrapped installer into running on thier systems the free download offered on the products home page linked to above in the information panel accepts the giveaway license just fine, and you can install this giveaway side by side with earlier giveaway versions by specifying a unique installation path... it will take over the start menu entry as that is not user definable at install time though.

Installed and registered side by side with several other versions without issue... on 32bit Vista SP2+ never needed to use the previous versions in preference to xmedia recode for any conversions I have done so far but you never know something may change one day.

TK, You mean sftp as secure file transfer protocol.

Reply   |   Comment by Joe Schmoe  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

TK,

I believe the 160 ftps mentioned is two typos. As proof for my conclusion, on the developer's product page (http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/hd-video-converter/), in the section with the heading "What Else Makes It Stand Out," there are subsections. One of those subsections states:
"Support for 60 fps Conversion
Converted videos will just get better. Make them higher-quality."

Even though some devices are getting the ability to have higher fps rates (as Mike mentioned), 60 is pretty high currently. I am sure that as the demand increases, the converters will increase their capabilities as well. I am not an iPhone user, so I wonder if there is any software that can handle/convert their higher fps rate.

Joe Schmoe, no SFTP is SSH File transfer protocol while FTPS is FTP over SSL or TLS

From the readme.txt in the download -

2) No free upgrades to future versions
3) Strictly non-commercial usage

Appears to be a fully licensed version apart from that.

Quach Phat Thang, thanks, would have seen that if they had included the section tabs in the Overview page which is the home page for the product... I guess they have no beta testers for their website!

I often think it's the same again and again, with the programs in here, only the publishers are different.

Kim Olsen,

I think the publishers are the same too. They just change their names to appear different.

alireza,

Handbrake is a excellent program for converting videos once you have mastered the controls.
It's limited however to MKV and MP4 video outputs but these are common video formats.
