using the Hard Disk Sentinel for a long time now (previous versions). This is a very

useful program, I have used other applications, but none is so complete, easy in

service and intuitive like this one! I love it and I'm sure Many users will enjoy too! Very

easy to use, installed quickly and has great tools. I especially like the elements of

disk state monitoring in the background, and warning when something bad starts to

happen with the drive. In addition, the cooperation with developer Janos Mathe at the

highest level. Quickly and professionally !! Very nice and in-kind contact, quick help

And the installation went through without any problems, And thanks to the tutorial

I would like this version please.

No problem at all installing to my WIn7 Pro x64 machine with Avast AV running. Once installed, it let me know instantly about the status of my hard drive. This one's a keeper! Thanks so much!

Very impressive program. It showed status of WIN 10 laptop, and both connected external drives.
My most used 2TB Seagate drive is the only one showed less 100 percent, but still 99 out of 100.
This is 2TB BACK UP Drive the one I use most often with backup and playing videos, and it has been acting weird lately, by stopping all of sudden without notice, but once I reload it plays fine.
Just Wish could get a little more detailed addtl info from HD Sentinel regarding what could be causing this. Other than that great program to have!

I downloaded it on two different computers with Win7 various methods/multiple times. Kept getting corrupt files error.

I like this much more than others. It doesn't flash yellow lights, scream "Caution!", and blow a siren in your face for a few bad sectors being moved like the other program did. I especially like the temperature animation in the icon next to the clock. It installed on Windows7 easily after turning off Avast for 10 minutes.

From win 10, go to S.M.A.R.T. and you can see everything this software sees, same info.
As for the advice and health, that is debatable, nobody can predict if or when a hard drive can fail.
I have a HD that runs perfect, but the temp is always high and on red but it never lost a byte to read or write in the last 5 years.
I have HDs that failed when everything was on green and within the manufacturer specs.
In other words, HD failure is not predictable, relying on the temp or seek time or delays in read/write heads is false.
A HD fails most of the time when read ahead buffer or cash memory on the HD itself fails.
That can not be diagnosed or predicted by any software so far and I have been installing all kinds of HD utility software.

win 10 x64 os, no AV is turning off.
run setup.exe, a pop-up says: "the set up file was corrupted, download a new copy again".
click close, did not go for a new copy.
go back to run setup.exe 2nd times, this times made it.

checked it is registered to GOTD.
status is successful registered and activated.
license is valid forever.
only the reg. key is grey off with no info.
click a few function buttons, is working and looks ok, so hoping the s/w is ok despite 1st failed set up.

so far, i never come across, so i go for this s/w.
just play around, it looks impressive and find that it is useful.

Downloaded and installed without difficulty. Works. Crashed Windows Explorer and locked up my desktop. Eventually Windows restarted it but it soon locked up again. An Uninstall fixed the problem. I use a somewhat complex setup. Win10 x64, i5-4400, 16GB RAM, Samsung 240GB SSD and 512GB SSD for storage, Win10 AntiVirus and firewall. I use one data drive with ***VeraCrypt*** full drive encryption. Never have a problem with it. I'd say this was the problem with this program. Also, have a Synology NAS with drives mapped in Win10.

Twice disabled AV but cannot install the program, saying files are corrupted
But updated “ver 4.6 “
Now only I need name and key if anybody can help.

Basically Hard Disk Sentinel shows the S.M.A.R.T. data for hard drives, & provides it's own hard drive tests. It's a good app. I use it to monitor the temps when using conventional hard drives connected via USB 3.0, setting it for more frequent polling of the S.M.A.R.T. data. For internal drives & external drives connected via eSATA I just use the free HWMonitor, which also shows what's going on with my graphics card, CPU, & fans.

Do note that S.M.A.R.T. data is useful, & *may* be predictive, but it's not an absolute indicator of drive health -- I've had drives fail while still showing good S.M.A.R.T. data, right up until the time I could no longer access them. Many bios have a feature where they can read the S.M.A.R.T. data every time the system boots, warning you if necessary.

Hard Disk Sentinel's drive tests are informative & can give a good indication of a drive's health -- I always use it if/when I pick up a reman drive cheap. That said, if I suspect that there may be a problem I'll run the software from Western Digital for my WD drives -- some other brands have similar. One, it can remap a bad section to a spare, and two, it's required anyway if the drive is defective & needs RMA. Do Not use Windows disk check to attempt repair -- any sectors it marks bad will be recorded in the NTFS file tables, and they persist after you've replaced the drive, cloning the contents from the old one.

I picked up Hard Disk Sentinel on a previous giveaway (4.60). I though, what the heck, I will try it. It indicated that my backup drive had serious problems and was in danger of failing. To be cautious, I moved the data to a different drive. Four days later, the old back up drive DIED! For me, it was great timing by GOTD. This is a super program, and everyone should have it! For us folks who started with WIN 95 in days past have said: "if only I knew the hard drive was about to give out I would of done something". Now with Hard Drive Sentinel, you can!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure this is a repeat from a few weeks ago; I already have it installed. It is an outstanding piece of software.

Phew. The third collection, only the installation file worked and HDS launched at 4.71 off Avast. I've had to date version 4.6, but today updated to 4.71 and it turned out to be a demo version.

This is a completely different program from all the utilities which show you your disks SMART status. In fact, the publisher has a very interesting technical page where he explains why SMART, by itself, is very inefficient in predicting hard drive failure. I'm not able to evaluate their arguments ; all I can say is their case is pretty convincing :

What Hard Disk Sentinel does is use the SMART system, but apply its own method on top of it. It tracks SMART data along time, and derives a health "percentage" from that. It also offers its own set of tests, unrelated to SMART if I understood correctly. You can compare your disks data to the average data for that specific model.

They pay particular attention to the working temperature of disks drives, because they say that's a major predictor of failure and remaining lifetime. They go as far as displaying the remaining, estimated lifetime of each disk. (No way to know what that's worth.) However temperature is but one of many monitoring points.

If you care about your PC and data and are the inquisitive type, I encourage you to try this program. Knowing if it really helps predict hard disk failure and protect data requires the surveillance of many PCs over an extended period of time, so I can't offer any help here.

The drawbacks of Hard Disk Sentinel are :

- It's quite technical. You need to master it. Don't expect a simple dashboard with green/red status graphics.

- It does not work completely seamlessly if you use a non admin Windows user account for your daily tasks, as I do.

- It's not high DPI-aware.

- The user interface, while functional, is one of the ugliest I have ever seen. It seems stuck in 1990's aesthetics (or lack of the latter) and looks incredibly amateurish (which, in my humble opinion, is very detrimental to the product). Horrible colours !

There are three editions (not counting free trial). The one on offer here is Standard, not Pro nor Enterprise. However, the feature set of Standard is already impressive. This is by no means a crippled version. The editions comparison page is well hidden :

Minden gond nélkül települt az Avast átmeneti letiltása után. De amíg futott az Avast védelem, addig nem történt semmi csak aktiválta a programot, de nem települt, és nem is jelzett semmit a vírusvédő sem, és a program sem. Amint letiltottam a vírusvédelmet gond nélkül települt, már közben vissza tudtam kapcsolni az Avast-ot.

Nice program, recognises SSD on one PC but not the other.

I've been running this software program for a couple of years now. And I couldn't be happier with it. It runs with windows, and puts an icon(configurable) in the desktop tray. The icon is a number, and the number is the temperature of my hard drive. It is the equivalent of the temperature gauge on your car dashboard. A good thing to know at a mere glance. Opening the program will show the overall health of your hard drive.

Download and install easy, with no problems. Previously had version 4.6 which was fine but appreciate this later version. Program works well and is reliable. Thanks GOTD.

Disregard my last: Avast was blocking install. First time that has ever happened...

Downloaded it 3 times keep saying, files are corrupted please download another version. another Giveaway of the day that doesn't work!

I don't know why it has been happening lately. I am using Kaspersky Internet Security. But unzipped the file from you, it kept saying the file was corrupted even I had tried to shut down the Kaspersky beforehand. Please help.

Ran setup.exe, and it returns "Hard Disk Sentinel Standard 4.71 activated", but did NOT install the software. WTF?
No icon on desktop, no program folder in start menu, no entry in task manager, nada...

Not working setup file!!!!!! What's next?

Zip file downloads ok, extract to another folder, run setup.exe, activation takes place, but program doesn't install. I've used this site for years, but can't work out what I'm doing wrong...........

Sad to say, but ignore my last comment.... I have tried to install this 5 times on another computer and each time, the installer crashes. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement, further, its sort of made me out to be an idiot after my glowing report. I really hope this is just a glitch because if its not, the author has some serious explaining to do. :(

Good and reliable program. I use the previous GOTD version for a few years. Just disable the Avast antivirus for installation.

I have used this for years, I swear by it, it gave me advance warning of a HDD failure and I was able to get all my data off in time... and besides that, it warns me if a HDD is over heating... I was able to clean the dust out when that happened to prevent either a HDD failure (due to overheating) or worse, a fire.

How can I emphasise my praise enough... OK, if I install an OS on a computer, then an AV... the next thing MUST be this program... without failure. 11 out of 10! :)

I got this program about six months ago (same version) in a giveaway from another site - it's well worth having. It's the best of the HD monitoring programs I've tried.
