#9: Winamp will not play anything you throw at it. Among them being RA or RM files. Please get your facts in order in the future.

Windows Media Player seems to do the job just fine for me.

I'd love to see a video editing program along the lines of Adobe Premiere! Thanks GAOTD!

Thanks GOTD, but no thanks. I have BonkEnc. BonkEnc is a CD ripper, audio encoder and converter for various formats. It can produce MP3, MP4/M4A, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, Bonk and FLAC files. And is for free.

#48 THANK YOU Chris and to others who take the time to help others out on this site. We (those who need help sometimes) appreciate people taking the time to help out. I have Audacity and haven't gotten fond of it yet. However, the program you have recommended seems to be doing the trick that I need so far. Simple and relatively easy. Can't wait to get more familiar with Mp3DirectCut and get all my files split! Thanks again to you and everyone else on the site for helpin out. Best regards #25.

Belgian Dud(#44): You have every right to voice your opinions, but if you're going to rant every day could you at least get some new material? Or tighten up the old stuff into a brief, crisp paragraph or two? Nobody loves an ill-tempered, long-winded gasbag.
Thanks so much!! ;)

Once again a program by someone that didn't take the time to see what's actually out there. It's sad to see one program after the other by one developer after the other being presented here as being the bee's knees while anyone that has been using computers for longer then 6 months can point out at least 2 truly free programs that can do pretty much the same thing, only better.

Once again a program by someone that is so proud of his program that you can't even find out the first thing about him/her/them.

Once again a product by someone that is such a pro at making software that they have the grand total of 1 product to their name. A product that they have been developing since July of this year. Which means that for 3 months nobody they know could be bothered to tell them that what they are doing is, although educational for the programmer, not something that the world is waiting for.

Once again a program that claims to be the recipient of a whole list of awards that when you investigate them it becomes clear they are neither awards nor endorsements.

I applaud anyone that learns to program but please get over yourself and realize that it isn't because you can make it that therefor you'll find a big crowd of people willing to part their hard earned money for it. I.e.: this program needs lots of work yet before it's ready for being released. It also needs lots of inspiration to make it standout enough that people will be willing to buy it because they truly want it and not because they feel pity for you or think that by buying it you'll at least won't get discouraged and go of to sulk.

@ Thomas.
1. for someone complaining about other people's manners you show a big lack of manners yourself
2. you complain and complain about those that dare voice their reservations and honest criticisms about this program but you never once bother to actual say anything of consequence about any of the offered softwares yourself
3. those that 'complain' are, unlike you, not here for free stuff but to see if there's something that is worth knowing about and perhaps even buying.
4. you demonstrate you ignorance so often and so much that it's truly sad. E.g.: 500 Mhz Macintosh dates back to 1999 not 1960 - PC's weren't around until the early 80's and neither were Mac's - Mac users, in general, know better then to worry if Windows stuff would work on their machine because they have the better system and they know it
5. if the makers of a program can't deal with people making it clear to them why they won't be millionares by age 17 because the pundits at large simply don't care for the program, well boo-hoo.
6. I'm quite sure that the people of Giveaway are mature enough to understand that any criticism towards a particular program is just that and in no way reflects on what they do, further more I don't think that they are losing money because if they were they wouldn't be doing it
7. all the above goes to everyone else that feels the constant need to complain about the "whiners" but never offer anything worthwhile themselves and who never ever complain about people such as Thomas. Who think that a post like this is rude because it doesn't praise it, praise it's makers, praise the people of Giveaway, praise the developers parents, praise the developers pets and anyone else they think is praiseworthy as long as it perhaps would prolong their ability to get more FREE programs but on the other hand don't have a problem with someone like Thomas calling other people 'infants'

Built in to Windows Media Player, iTunes, J. River, and almost every other media player in the world (Most of which are free). Why pay for something that is free? And why get a standalone program for a feature that is already present in programs that do much more?

@23 The current version of DBPoweramp has a limited use MP3 encoder, but do a search for Version 10. This was the last version that had the free MP3 encoder. All you need to do is install it then manually update the lame codec to 3.97 (you can do this with the other codecs as well). Works 100%.

Here's a google search for you http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=dbpoweramp+v10&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

Cant try it. Installs fine, but gives me an [DBGHELP.DLL:MiniDumpWriteDump]error. So uninstalled it. Checked Google and the error is some kind of a crash reporting devise. Might disable my AV and try again later, but have Winamp which has an excellent ripper. If I do, I'll report back in with my evaluation.

I will try the software later today after I spend time with my daughter. However, I was just looking for a ripper to do a good job on some cds we have. I have to reinstall several of my components after some work on my registry and am always looking for alternatives. #25.....I use audacity to split tracks and also to splice them together. It's free and after you read the help files, not hard to use. I used it to splice together some tracks and overlay some sounds into a cheer mix for my daughter's squad and it came out fantastic.

Thanks GAOTD...I will try this out myself before jumping to any conclusions

The only ones who come on here and complain about free stuff just because it is not something they want, or can use, are people who think that things should be handed to them on a silver platter or that life owes them something. Quit crying, build a bridge, and get the hell over it. Leave feedback, negative feedback? Leave feedback about the programs cons, not why you cannot use the program, or why you would not want the program- no body cares why you dont want the program- your all just words on the screen- your here to give feedback on the program so others can learn the good and the bad about the program, not learn why you dont want the program. Who cares why you dotn want the program?! Do you honestly think Im going to care because your 500 megahertz 1960 macintosh isnt compatible with a program that is free, or is a trialware on here? You obviously dont understand the site: Giveawayoftheday: it may be a full program, or it may be a trial- either way, the site is meant to introduce you to new and unique programs for developers-you benefit either way, you get to try a program before you go buy it, just to find out that you dont like it and are stuck with it- most stores dont let you return a cd or dvd once the case or package is cracked open. I said it once, Ill say it again, there are some real whiners on here, and alot of people on here talk like infants, needing some titty. Be grateful, show some respect to the owners of giveawayoftheday-its not free to run this site.

Used this program to see how good my shredder was. Works well. CCleaner shreds far better then that Norton trash.

Spesoft Free CD ripper does this, ripping tracks of CD, and you choose the bitrate (Standard ripping is 128, but it supports up to 320). Tracks are automatically named using an online database. And if you need to record audio, Audacity does the best job and is free as well. (Again, you can choose the bitrate freely.

Terry(#23): The first half-hour (give or take) of comments are never accurate because they're posted by losers who wait by their keyboard until the giveaway changes. Then they make some generic remark that's meant to make people think they actually tried the program and know something, when all they want is their comment near the top of the list so everyone will see it. Leading psychologists say this makes them feel important. Sad but true.

But I do wish people would stop moaning about how poor the software is, don't like it? DON'T DOWNLOAD IT!

I give this title 4 out of 10 points.

#25 Use StationRipper. The free version will record two stations simultaneously and will record songs individually, and label them. I love the Old time radio (OTR) stations. You have to manually delete duplicates, partially recorded songs, station IDs and ads.

I wish people who leave comments would be *accurate*.
Web searches I have done so far tell me that dBpoweramp is NOT "free". It is "free to trial" for a period then you have to pay. However, it is not clear to me if program becomes crippled or continues full function after the trial period.

Thanks to those who leave a link to any program they suggest/compare to. This helps a lot in deciding what to do with latest offering.

Thanks GAOTD. I find your service very useful. I have only accepted a couple of items (Plato DVD Rip and Extreme Picture Finder), but have found both to be useful.
Other offerings that I did not download have nevertheless got me thinking about some concepts I not previously considered.
The COMMENTS section of each offering is always a goldmine of useful information!
GAOTD- ignore the nay sayers. You are providing something useful!

Great piece of software.......... If it wasn't for the fact that iTunes, Windows Media Player, Real (One) player, Winamp and many others do it better and much more. If for some Strange reason, you are completely unwilling to use a media player to rip your music, CDex is an open source alternative that has been around for a long (and I mean long) time. CDex can rip to all the formats this program can, and then some. $19.95? When so many others do it for free... =\

this is most likely my last visit to gaotd. i've come here for ~30 days consecutively and found only *1* worthy program. (some driver backup utility.) the other 29 offerings have all been nothing but ridiculous pottyware with far superior freeware equivalents.

so with a ratio like that, i think its safe to say FAR too much time has been wasted on this here 'gaotd' site.

don't worry... i won't let the cyber-door hit me where the cyber-lord split me. HAND.

While I was unable to use this program, the gift of Astonshell 1.95 a few weeks back will ensure that I always come back to GAOTD.When paired with the file manager Xplorer2 Lite it has cut my desktop resources by 80% while giving me a more functional Desktop experience.

Thanks GAOTD,and I look forward to seeing what you and your sister site GGAOTD have tomorrow.Oh,and a good low memory file manager like the full version of Xplorer2 wouldn't be a bad thing, hint, hint.LOL!

Don't waste your time. The rips are all buzzy and weird sounding.

Winamp FREE (10th anniversary!) does what this does, AND it plays anything you can throw at it, anything video, including DVD's. And, it sounds right.

Winamp not only uses the more professional CDB database, it automatically downloads album art for your CD's. MP3 Surround support, 18 thousand online radio stations from around the world, free AOL and Shoutcast video, auto tagger, share files with Winamp Remote, display Lyrics, supports ANY MP3 player, etc., etc., and etc.

Get the Free Codecs XP CODEC PACK to play any video from Winamp, and get ffDShow with Audio decoder/endcoder. Also, get LAME free. This FREE combo is way more powerful than today's offering.

Winamp also supports totally lossless FLAC both for rip and burn but also playback (the BEST audio format), which this kludge does not support.

Also, Audacity (a little buggy, takes a little finesse) allows you to plug in your turntable and preserve your valuable vinyl.

If you buy the Pro version of Winamp (a mere $19.95 - hey, isn't that what this POS is listed for?), you get EVEN MORE!!!
