Very resource hungry, so it's not good is you need a number of background tasks running while you are away. Otherwise, looks good.

worthless SW maker. 2 out of 4 screensavers failed, including little dwarf and this halloween, downloaded from GAOTD! NY and forest screensavers survived only. little dwarf gave me blue screen and both failed SWs made the PC non-responding. memory hungry program. not recommended.

I installed the screensaver twice, but it refuses to operate properly. It starts to load and then stalls at the beginning of the loading process. Had to give up on it...

"Oh no! Another screensaver! wah, wah, waaaah!" You people amaze me. You get something for free and just because it doesn't suit your particular taste or need you feel it necessary to whine about it. Personally, I like screensavers. I've got about 30 of them installed. It gives my computer something to do while I'm not using it. Simply blanking the screen is boring! I think GAOTD is a great concept. But they can't give away quality software everyday. You have your hits and misses be it screensavers or whatever. Just be happy that you have access to such a great site and leave it at that.
And try looking at it from a programmers perspective... Would you want to give away a piece of software that you worked weeks or months on for FREE? I don't think I would! So I say thank you to GAOTD and the generous software publishers who make this site as great as it is.

#3-PeterM- I know most of you think its a joke, but as a PC repairman I'm say to say the poor sucker is probably serious. I have seen users still running NT4,Win95 RTM, and even one running Win3.11FWG. So PeterM,please just quit being a skinflint and buy a freaking PC from this century! There are plenty of places online where you can buy a nice Win2K machine for around$40,so please do!

Now as for the screensaver,it plays nice on XP Sp3. Very cute, especially the ghost. Perfect timing with Halloween just around the corner. Way to go GAOTD!

Well, I can not get it running on Win Xp. I have other screen savers from them but this one runs for 4 seconds and locks up.
I like the mixture GOTD has. I have payed for a couple of software form here. I would have never run a crossed them if it was not for GOTD. I do wish more software companies would put their software on the site. I guess they are scared to get their feet wet. Give their software away for free. Well It's not like that really. If I really like it. I have a limited time before a update come out...
I like the screen saver and some of the games to.
I wish they had two softwares one day and the next day two games and so on.

#3, who really cares about windows 3.1 or 95? No one uses these operating systems anymore, well except for you of course, but you are talking about an operating system that is over 16 years old and hasn't been supported by Microsoft in who knows how long. And to those who don't appreciate something for free, just don't download it, the thing is free so what's your complaint?...if the software has bugs or doesn't install correctly or if it doesn't work well then that's good to know about...so ROCK ON GOTD...I may not like anything, but you ROCK!!!!

I was very disapointed about the dishonesty of the picture, text description, and the link to the product as well.

This is NOT 3D Spooky Halloween Screensaver as shown, linked, AND described, it is the Halloween in the Attic Screensaver.

Why is the picture, link, and the description for a different item?
Were we supposed to be getting the 3D Spooky Halloween Screensaver, as the page states, how did we end up with the other one?
I would have much preferred the product shown and described.

Re "Unregistered Version" in Windows Vista

As I see it the Activate.exe is buggy, when you run the program "as administrator" from a limited account it will put the registration code in the administrator account, and only in that account.

That means that when the screensaver then is run under administrator account it will as expected be recognized as registered to Giveaway of the Day,
but when the screensaver is run under any other account it will be "unregistered" and display that "nasty" nag screen across the scene after a couple of seconds.

To fix this you have to copy the relevant registry key from the administrator account section to the other account(s).

My view on screensavers are that the fancy ones are rather useless but can be very nice to look at. For practical "use" I prefer screensavers that let me continue to read the screen (at least for awhile). For instance Bubbles in Windows Vista.

Have tried three times to get a download that works, it just runs for a couple of seconds and then stops. Am running XP and have not had a problem with other gemini screensavers. I run all my screensavers on a daily rotation. As the computer is in the living room and on during the day is interesting to see what comes up next.

I don't mind GOTD giving away a screensaver. And no I didn't vote thumbs down. I only vote after I test.

On the other hand, to those of you who slobber over the screensavers as if they were a great bargain, yep, there's sure a desperate shortage of free screen savers out there. LOL. HAVE YOU NOTICED, FOR EXAMPLE, THAT THEY ARE NO LESS THAN 45 (!) PAGES OF SCREENSAVERS IN THE GOTD FREEWARE LIBRARY? (I even saw a couple I might start using!)

Many say that Astro Gemini and the other company that was featured recently put out quality screen savers and I don't want to dispute that. And I understand GOTD needs to not only keep us happy, but also the companies who contribute. It's just in months of reading comments on these, I've practically never seen a comparison to them and what else is available out there, free or pay. That's different than any other software that GOTD gives away than I can think of. That's what makes me suspicious that the positive posters are mostly either those who are paranoid to say anything bad for fear GOTD will fold, or those who want to be spoonfed. In other words, how do you folks know these are good? Have most of you looked ANYWHERE else? (With the exception of someone like regular poster Phil, who does seem to have some idea what else is out there.) If you'd look even a little, you could od on screensavers. When I start seeing comments on how these compare to the MOUNTAIN of other screensavers out there (SO many of them free) I'll be more convinced.

As to giveaways, is there any chance we could give away PeterM? Maybe to Al-Qaeda as a terrorist practice dummy. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound cruel there. On the other hand, he's beaten his one little joke into the ground so much these last few months it's probably already poking through the ground in Pakistan. Must be terrible to have no life.

Personally, I like the free screen savers, for entertainment purposes only, of course. Don't care much for the screen saver manager that's always installed with AstroGemini's stuff. The least they could is provide an installation option for it not taking over as the *Default* screen saver. Like most AstroGemini Savers, this one can't make use of multiple screens. Some at least blank the other monitors, this one doesn't. Since the actual "Screen Saving" aspect of these savers really isn't an issue anymore, I guess that's not really a big deal for most. But if you use a saver to shield your screen from prying eyes when you're away from your desk, it might be worth noting. No problems here in XP SP2.

Awesome screensaver. I rarely add screensavers to my computer as I simply turn off my monitor when I am going to be away from it for any period of time, but I do like some nice screensavers for the holidays, and this is especially a nice Halloween one. I'm all for a nice Christmas one from them also. Very easy to install on Vista Home Premium. Now I need to go put it on my laptop so I can use it in my Halloween display for the trick or treaters.

@17 - Don't know what you're running this on, but I don't have any sound after unchecking BOTH the SFX and Music boxes. Don't know why you'd want to run it without at least the SFX (thunder, spooky voices, etc.) Really should be added--do not use regedit or otherwise hack your registry unless you know what you're doing!

@20 - We're sick of the history of screensavers and why we don't need them. Just be quiet. I'll take a good screensaver any day over another Notepad++ editor clone!

I still like last year's, after-holiday offering of the "Haunted Halloween" the best, but this is still very good with lots of scenes. (Beware the jack in the box! :-)

If you want to bypass the screensaver Manager you can right-click on the Desktop and choose Personalize (vista) or Properties (XP) and change the screensaver to the one you want rather than the Astro manager.

You can also change the icon on your desktop by right-clicking on the Icon and choose Properties. Under Shortcut tab, there's a box called Target. For this screensaver, delete what is there and put instead "C:\Windows\System32\Halloween in the Attic 3D Screenwriting.scr" (including quotes). That way you'll go directly to the screensaver. (This is the same for both Vista and XP.) You can do this with any of the Astro screensavers. They're all stored in the same folder. Just remember put in the correct screensaver file name (should be the same as the one on the shortcut, be sure and add .scr at the end) and don't forget to put it all in quotes (").

Sale of goods act:
Where there is a contract for the sale of goods by description, there is an implied term that the goods will correspond with the description.

I contend that 'ScreenSaver' is an illegal term!

Screen savers are not necessary as your screen doesnt need saving!

Years ago, when screens were orange or green they may have been necessary, but that was over 15 years ago.

Please...no more screen savers...trading standards may have to get involved as they clearly breach sale of good act 1984 as the description is missleading.

I tried 2-times but all I could get was a blank screen and Halloween music on the kids' old Pentium 4 XP Home computer. So I un-installed.

However, Astro-Gemini also installed some sort of "Manager" that DID NOT get removed during their un-install process. I had to go to Control Panel and remove that manually. Just FYI . . .

Lots of complaints on weekends about screen savers, or what some deem as insignificant software.

I for one am happy to see "insignificant software" offered on weekends, because I don't always have a chance to come here on weekends. If there isn't much here then I don't miss a good download.

Maybe that is what GOTD has in mind.

Thanks GOTD, this entertaining screensaver works great on my HP Vista Home Premium computer. Things that make a senior citizen say, wow, and free, didn't cost me a dime. I did uninstall the Astro Gemini Manager software as I do not need it. Regardless of what the young whippersnappers of the world say, I enjoy good, free, screensavers.

You weren't funny the first time you posted this and now you're getting even more tiresome. Do you perhaps have a small laugh to yourself each time you do it? If so can I suggest embracing the great outdoors, get some fresh air and try socialising with other people as a distraction from your little internet 'pranks'.

Folks, do not give negative ratings just because you do not want a screen saver. When I dl products from this website I look at the positive and negative ratings to determine if this program works correctly and would be worth my time or if their is a better product that can be received through shareware, freeware, or that can be bought.

It is quite annoying when I see a negative rating for a product but only because people want to complain about screen savers. Complain about them, fine, but only give negative or positive feedback on a product if you have actually tried it; typically other people tend to look at the rating to determine if something is wrong, luckily I read the comments as well.
