"you could easily make your own of equall quality using freware programs in about an hour"

As an amateur (as in I don't get paid) 3D artist, I agree and disagree with this statement. You CAN make your own using nothing but freeware (Blender, Gimp etc.). As all ART is subjective, creating something of "equal quality" is purely in the opinion of the viewer. As for doing it in "about an hour", rubbish. I challenge anyone to try. Assuming you've used these progs before, modelling the landscape, bridge, statue, ducks, etc. would easily put you over your limit. Then make all the textures for leaves, stone, grass, feathers etc. Next we have fluid for the river, animations for falling leaves and the ducks, cameras, lighting, music and sound to edit, rendering and compiling it all... To put your original comment back in context, you would be doing well if you made 50 cents an hour. So yeah, save yourself some time and money by getting this for free today. Sorry to watilson, I'm just backing up what you said, from the perspective of someone who actually does this kind of thing, albeit not screensavers.

After I installed this on my windows 7 pc, I was disappointed that the Astro Gemini Screensaver Manager didn't come with it. I really like using the manager on my other pcs & was hoping to use it on win 7 pc too

Downloaded and installed fine XP SP3. Not to bad I have seen worse. The graphics make it more like a drawing type screensaver. But considering that is free, and does not take up much space I would say thanks GOTD!!

Very nice! Works great. Now there is no reason at all to go outside. This, and my magazine collection will be all I need to keep my eyes occupied until next spring. By then, maybe they will have a new spring screensaver and I can stay inside indefinitely. Thanks, GAOTD!

Well OK, so the graphics are a bit dated, but I LIKE it. I actually bought a multiple screensaver package from them, just so I could virtually "walk in the rain (or snow)" any time I wanted. Don't know why everyone is so NEGATIVE! I really don't use screen savers either, but for those times I want to hear rain, it's here.

I don't need this today because I already own it. I use win 7 64x Intel quad core, and works great.

I appreciate the efforts of GOTD, as most of the time the programs are good (yes, I know we're beta testing for lots of them.)

Anyway, for today's download I would recommend you get it. After all, it's FREE - plays nice (with my system anyway) - and one day you might want to take a virtual walk in the rain (no umbrella needed.)

I've been a longtime fan of AstroGemini's GAOTD screensavers. While it's true these individual screensavers vary in quality of graphics, etc, most of them are nice. I haven't tried today's Giveaway on my win7 pc yet, but I will. From some other comments made here earlier, my guess would be that AstroGemini needs to do some updating of their older screensavers, fine tune the graphics a bit more etc.

Two things I'd LOVE to see AstroGemini do:
#1. Offer an animated screensaver maker. Being an artist & a photographer specializing mostly in nature & animal photography, I have many excellent photos I would love to use for making screensavers.
#2. Offer the dinosaurs screensaver again. I think it's been at least 2 years since that one was offered & it is was one of my favorites on my xp machine I used the most back then & still use now. I await a chance to put it on this Vista machine & my windows 7 machine.

BTW I've found a lot of things, games in particular, don't run very well under Vista until you go to the application exe file properties & set it to run in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode.
Running programs in XP SP2 compatibility mode has solved a lot of problems with programs that didn't run well under Vista, including some that didn't run at all under Vista, even if they were claimed to be Vista compatible.
I suspect the same will also prove true of Windows 7. I've already found that some apps that don't perform up to par under Windows 7, will perform well when set to run in XP SP2 compatibility mode.

I don't know why Microsoft didn't simply update XP, add features etc, while keeping the overall OS as consistent with XP as possible. XP has by far, proven to be overall the very best Windows OS of all. And I speak from experience, when I first started using a computer, I started with an IBM XT pc with a monochrome monitor and DOS 1.1 OS. I've had every mainstream windows version made so far, with the exception of Windows2000/ME. Just to prove when I claim XP to be overall the best Windows OS, I do speak from a little experience!

Installs and runs well on XP SP3. One small problem - if I try to change the 'settings' via Control Panel, Display, Screensaver, the 'settings' popup cuts of half of the right side so you cannot see it or make any changes. Note: it works properly in the "Forest 3D" screensaver, so it shouldn't be my computer that is the problem.

This is a dated version . graphics even tweaked are sub par but for free who would complain . However it does seem to call home a lot i see it trying to connect but i blocked access . it may be trying to gather information you can choose to block it .

if it were not for the digital clock I would say it was a nice piece of software for free. as the graphics are not up to todays standards. but for a simple screensaver with clock it is worth the $9.95 asking price. for those that disagree just think about it you could easily make your own of equall quality using freware programs in about an hour, so what is your time worth $10.00 per hour or more ? thanks gaotd for this free offering

If one goes by the very poor rating on this screensaver, one may miss out on a beautiful thing. I speak purely from an aesthetic point of view; And on that perspective alone, I urge you to download and install this screensaver without hesitation. You can always uninstall.

Screensavers should be judged least on computational merits and metrics; They should be judged mostly on aesthetics; Screensavers are in the realm of Visual Arts. And on that merit, this is unquestionably a winner. I give it an 'AAA', a 9.9 out of 10.

if people want itto frame faster try a smaller resolurion. i find 640x480 or 800x600 work good on many computers.

There are some texture issues. Why are the leaves not on some things? It looks old. However, I like the old style and it runs on my onboard graphics processor, so I'm happy with it.

Golden Autumn 3D Screensaver is nice, but using Direct 3D, 2 cores of an AMD quad [somewhat heavily] plus the GPU of an ATI 4870 graphics card, I don't expect everyone will be able to run it &/or get great results, depending on your hardware & its D3D support. The configuration window does not support large type or fonts. The autumn views are detailed, & nice, but the 3D aspects are a bit primitive -- if you expect the latest/greatest game quality you'll be disappointed... falling leaves for example don't bend, twist, & flex, but simply fall slowly, stiffly as if molded from plastic. I saw a bit of aliasing, but I didn't try to adjust any D3D settings that might help. That sort of thing may/may not bother you, but with very little impact to Windows don't be afraid to give it a try, as always setting at least a restore point before trying something new.

As a more traditional screensaver everything's in the .scr file -- the .scr & a file named "no" are added to Window's system folder, while the program's folder simply contains the html readme page. An uninstall key is added to the registry, & the program key that's added is where the screensaver keeps track of your configuration settings, i.e. music volume, sound FX on/off & so on. If you rename the screensaver's file -- "Golden Autumn 3D Screensaver.scr" --> "Golden Autumn 3D Screensaver.exe" -- you can create a shortcut pointing to it on your desktop &/or in your start menu... running it that way you'll get the configuration window -- adding /run to the shortcut's command in properties [i.e. "c:\[SomeFolder]\Golden Autumn 3D Screensaver.exe" /run] causes the screensaver to run... If you just want to watch it rather than use it as a screensaver, you can easily create one or both.

It's a pretty screen saver, and I would keep it, IF it had multi monitor support. It runs on my widescreen just fine, but leaves my smaller one just standing there exposed...not good.
Going back to the fire screen saver we got the other day here! I love that one and it works on both monitors at the same time.
Thanks GOTD!

Not quite what I thought it would be. The graphics, well, just a little too cartoonish. Would be cute on a child's computer. Thanks GOTD, this one just didn't quite make it.

It's probably one of their "old" screensavers. Think of it as a "demo". You can't expect 100% satisfaction from some of 'em. :/

I thought it looked familiar. Just now found it, and looked at it on my computer. Apparently it had been given away a long time ago on GAOTD. It isnt a very good screensaver. The rain falling, and the sounds seems natural. The leaves falling dont have a natural falling effect, no spiral effect, water in the creek, trees, the dukc, overall graphics just arent realistic at all. It is ok in that it presents a sense of peacefulness and serenity, but it is far from having any graphical realism! Looks like it was made back in 1995. I rate it a 5 out of 10. To give some credit to the company, I noticed I have the 3D Haunted Halloween, which was given away on here before. It is a good one, proving that Astro Gemini can produce good screensavers.

I went to their site and this seem to also be offered as a free download, as were many many other screensavers. Seem a bit dated, but a new screensaver is always nice; they offer a Solar System that looks very nice and is also free. Thanks for the hookup, GOTD.

I have always skipped the screensaver giveaways before, since I never used them, until the Fantastic Flame screensaver some days earlier - and acquired a taste for it. So I downloaded the Autumn screensaver too, now regretting that I haven't downloaded all of their previous screensavers.
Its enchanting and beautiful, and I am almost tempted to buy more screensavers from them. The grafics are very beautiful and in no way "dated" as #3 says - its art, it can't be "dated" anyway. And as far as 3D goes, its certainly not meant to look as realistic as a photo, but its beauty is the grafics art, almost realistic but still its grafic. I think one needs to see artistic work with "heart eyes" and appreciation for the artist, to see the beauty.
The music is also nice, light and soothing.
Sure, screensavers are not needed - but hey, like pictures, and any other arts, its simply beautiful to look at. A little gem.
Thanks to GAOTD and Astrogemini

Not the best screensaver I have seen. The overall feel is that it looks quite dated as far as up-to-date 3D graphics goes. It needs to look more lifelike to actually appeal.
Straight forward install on XP.

Blech. This is one ugly screensaver. It installed fine on W7 x64, has a few options for you to tinker with, but even when jacking the resolution of the screensaver as high as it would go it still looked on par with a Playstation One game or something. This is partly due to the ground just being covered in one big texture patterned with leaves rather than having individual leaves on top of the ground. But hey, there are ducks swimming around in the river!

Thanks for the free software all the same.
