This is going to sound like I work for the company but I am not involved in the least. I did write one line to sound like one of those late-night TV ads, and I thought it would be a fun way to show something some folks may want to consider. I nearly missed it.

This program, Genie Timeline 10 shows a normal/retail price of $39.99 (it actually shows that it is a penny less on their website). Right now though, there is a promotion to pay only $11.98. That is not a lot of pocket-scratch, so if this works for you, you could consider the sale offer.

But wait, there's more ...

Keep in mind the company offers two different backup solutions, this one (Genie Timeline) and the other is Genie Backup Manager. Genie Timeline is on version 10, but Genie Backup Manager is on version 9. The website has a comparison between the two. Genie Backup Manager is missing just a few items that have been introduced to Genie Timeline 10, but Genie Backup Manager also has some things that Genie Timeline 10 does not, such as Incremental backups. Genie Backup Manager's regular price is $10 more than the Genie Timeline ($39.98 vs $49.98), but ... it is on sale right now for $3 more than the Genie Timeline offer. Since Genie Backup Manager is on version 9, the version 10 might have some of those minor additions that are in Timeline 10. So if you need/want the incremental feature and other things in the Backup Manager, for that $3 more ($14.98), it might be the solution for you.

If I didn't already have a different solution, I would have considered it. The other things I looked for were a Changelog and what type of license is used (lifetime with upgrades or ???).

Program downloaded just fine about 4 hours ago but I am still waiting for email with serial number. If I go back to website where I made the request for the serial number, it states it has been sent and that I should sign in on website to get it. I tried that but no luck. Still waiting for email. How long should I wait ?

StSaBa,

When I tried to register yesterday using my usual e-mail address for these offers, rather than supply a new one it said I already had one registered to that address.

Fortunately, that one sent two years ago when I first (and unsuccessfully) tried using Timeline was still in an old message in my Inbox and worked fine.

I tried filling in the form and it said I was already registered and said to log into my account. But there is no link anywhere to log into my account?

Perhaps putting a link so people can log into their accounts if they are already registered might be helpful and also save so much time in trying to find where to log in. Because at the moment it's like trying to find the elusive Yeti. You know it's out there but you can never find it.

Thanks.

This same version (10.0.3.300) was apparently offered for at least the previous two times when I commented on problems with using it on high-DPI displays:

July 1, 2021, comment #7 ( https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/genie-timeline-home-10-3/ )

June 16, 2020, comment #12 ( https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/genie-timeline-home-10-2/ )

When attempting to use Genie Timeline back then on my high-DPI display it appeared as super-tiny text/fonts in tiny boxes. Normally this can be corrected by adjusting the "Properties / Compatibility / Change high DPI settings" of a shortcut used to launch it.

However, those previous two times I could not successfully correct it, and so uninstalled it as intolerable/unuseable (for me). I had contacted Genie9-Zoolz support who acknowledged the issue in a reply.

Today I had the same experience (yet again -- nothing has changed!); but before uninstalling once again I had a notion to check which process/task was actually running when the (tiny) GUI was onscreen, and in particular which EXE file in which folder it was.

(On my system it was C:\Program Files\Genie9\Genie Timeline\GenieTimeline.exe )

After identifying it I then changed the high-DPI settings directly on that EXE file and -- voila! -- the Genie Timeline interface displayed normally on next launch.

Hopefully this helps those who, like me, were previously thwarted and discouraged from keeping this useful title. It now appears to be performing well.

Note that, after launch or exit, it may remain running as an icon (white circle, blue background) in your Taskbar, possibly in the "hidden" extra icons menu.

p.s. I see a 70% discounted price for the Home or Pro editions on their website.

Warning: by default the software EXCLUDES almost all files in your user AppData folder. Not prominently mentioned, but buried in the advanced preferences -- I lost data since the default exclusions are pretty severe. A bit clunky to use. I am a long-term paid user and would use an alternative if it existed.

According to their main website, Genie Timeline Professional 10, only supports Windows XP/ Vista/ 7 – 10, not 11.

Downloaded. Installed. Went to website to sign up for license key. Received key.
I have no clue where to input key....Software opens up and seems ready to go.
Where do I "sign in" as my emailed instructions state? Thank you for the program!!

Mnkybouy, Preconfigure the files/folders you want to backup, after selecting and going to next page, the registration needed to be entered will be on that next page.

Mnkybouy, If you had an earlier version of Timeline installed , it will use the licence key from that version.

Does it work with Windows 11? Could I backup files wirelessly to another computer on the same network?
