I've been using this program to download videos off of Hulu, and I LOVE it. I don't like the debug popup, but I clicked the "never show again" box, so it hasn't bothered me.

I really like that this was integrated with a converter. A full version of the PCHand converter that I got from here doesn't seem to be able to convert .flvs, while this software can.

One thumb up for this reason : I have tested similar programs including GOATD but could never download a specific flash video (http://www.notele.be/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5860&Itemid=31). Today, I could download it Foxreal FLV Downloader Pro. Thank you Foxreal and GOATD.

Will it save Veoh / JW Player .flv's? The JW wrapper has become the one to beat lately, everything else I manage easily with a couple firefox plugins...

Al

Ok I have downloaded this and tried it and like most of the video downloaders it wouldn't o all sites. But it does do some. I like Rip Tiger that was offered not to long ago as well as Aiessoft video downloader (lost both of those as I had to move to a new computer recently so if those could come back would be most welcome) anyway it seems to work well for downloading and as for converting i just use Format Factory no matter what downloader I use. I am curious why Aieesoft downloader would download a video that was 140 meg. But Rip Tiger and now this will download the same file but it is now 200 meg?

it took me a little time to figure it out but now I have it.. thanks! :)

"atubecatcher" is the best freeware program for video downloading and/or converting.

Activated, installed, and started flawlessly on Win7HP. This seems to be a much more stable and useful video downloader than others I have tried. Thank you!

it shows the Upgrade to PRO, even when this is supposed to be the PRO.

every-time I launch the program it opens a webpage.

I get "the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002)"
any advise?

Should be called hulu downloader. Good job, 1st app I've had that really does download hulu (and other ungetable sites).

I've found the strangely named video thief perfect at doing the same job and of course it's free all the time.
I could'nt get todays offering to just download or convert to MP3 as Video thief does.

I installed and activated but it says it cannot open the website when it opens so it doesn't do anything.

Is this going to be fixed soon?

It's a great software! I can download my favorite videos from Hulu, and convert to formats that my ipad supported. Enjoy the videos as i like.

Oh. Additionally, it won't let me view Hulu Plus videos even though I do have it.
I can view the video in FireFox, just not on the program. :/

The software site is down...still...or again. I checked several times now. While I do know that a mass of visitors can and will crash a site at times if unprepared....however...this makes me wonder about their business as well...especially since it was noted at the beginning of this giveaway that the site had been down all day and possibly all night now.

Before and when choosing to download a program I think it's important to visit the sites and check them out. Read the information on them and any help/support they have and provide. Even though we get the program for free today and there's no support given....if they want my future business (money) or others to be directed to them for business I need to know they are reputable, legitimate, and worth it. Impossible to do if the site is down or at the very least unpredictable.

Although I won't be downloading this one due to the above it may very well be a good program and company. I very much appreciate all the useful comments by others here. It's up to each one individually to check into companies and what they offer... read users feedback and comments...BEFORE choosing to use their products and services.

Just not worth taking a chance when I can't see for myself IMO.

Maybe it's just me, but I followed the instructions-- I ran activation.exe then the setup file-- but when I try to view a page, it gives me an error saying that I need to debug the page. It still loads, but the pop up is a little irritating.
Additionally, I tried downloading a video from hulu, but it won't start my download. Maybe you can fix that? :)

Other than that, this looks like an good program. (:

FLV downloader? I don't know about you, but I want to download YouTube videos as full quality MP4s and not blurry 360p FLVs.

How can I confirm that this software is licensed? I clicked to get updates (not upgraded) and it said I have to purchase the software to do that. Does anyone know if this is licensed, and if so, where I can confirm it?

Just A Few Thoughts

Pay-to-play downloaders are a lost cause these days.

This can only grab raw streams and flash and then drops them into a new container; the same thing DownloadHelper has been doing for free for years.

It does NOT convert the formats; only changes containers.

It does not dump raw streams embedded in Silverlight pages.

It can't grab FLV stream files under a SWF overlay (so-called 'protected' video content pages)

No Java parsing support.

Script busting is non-existent

As of 10:24 am cst the homepage(site)is still down but the program appears to have activagted and installed correctly... I think. ;)

#15 robin
run activate.exe first
it will be registered when you launch it.

P.S.
when going to 'Help'-'Updated' you wil see:
"This is a specific version. Please purchase the software to get the latest version."

foxreal site is down
the website's IP address is 173.201.21.62
another website weiyingcn.com is hosted at the same IP.

The program's interfaces left and upper pane cover too large area of the screen.

What's the registration code? Can someone help me?
TIA

This is not working. Installs, activates then fails to load.

This is a piece of junk.Tried it on windows 7. At this time I am unable to download any Hulu vids. It would be a waste of money to buy this program.

I have been proven wrong (see #19). Because the web browser runs INSIDE this program, it can capture videos that no other tool I've tried can, namely, videos from video.yahoo.com. Kudos and thanks!

Great to see you back here Ashraf - obviously I am not the only one that missed your reviews.
I am never sure about these converters; there are so many freeware programs that offer to do the same thing, it certainly can cause some confusion.
Thank you as always GAOD.

For most sites, i agree that other programs/extensions are a much better option. But one site in particular (which no one has mentioned, so maybe we're supposed to keep it on the QT...it rhymes with Zulu) is not easily accessible to most flash downloaders, in which case this program really comes in handy. I've used StreamTransport in the past for this purpose; FoxReal seems to use the same exact download process as ST, but FoxReal has a few more bells and whistles, a prettier interface, and the ability to convert to other formats, which ST lacks. So, while i won't be using this for most of my flash downloads, this program is definitely a keeper for me.

Freeware alternatives for downloading:

Iwisoft Free Video Downloader
Karbon (Firefox extension)
Net Video Hunter (Firefox extension)
Flash Got (Firefox extension)

I use all of these. Different sites use different methods to stream their videos, and one size doesn't fit all.

Freeware alternative for format conversion, if you think you really need it:

Iwisoft Free Video Converter

Ignore my previous post. I managed to download the video. This is the only video downloader that I know of, which has been able to dl from this site. Bravo!

This program downloads the movie and TV sites that the others won't
...and it's free
You will need to go through a couple steps, then select the video it finds. Might seem confusing the first time.

Thanks GAOTD

Error message "The server at www.foxreal.com is taking too long to respond..." keeps coming when I tried to downlaod from:

http://www.tvo.org/cfmx/tvoorg/theagenda/index.cfm?page_id=7&bpn=779904&ts=2010-11-22%2020:00:00.0

Don't know why it is trying to go to Foxreal website!!

Can someone at Foxreal look into it and tell me if IT IS POSSIBLE for this prog to download from this site?

Thank you

It clains to be able to download Yahoo videos but I believe that NO program can, at least with Yahoo's current format.

@9 JoeCool - As far as freeware is concerned, I'd recommend you go to the website www.clipnabber.com
Enter the url from where the clip is found, click NAB and it does the rest. It can download multiple videos from all the same sites as this program and it's free. It'll find Mp4, FLV, and 3GP versions of almost any video. It also can be added to the taskbar of your browser for one click downloading. However please note that the taskbar button does not D-L with filenames and does not give you multiple download oprions.
As for Foxreal's giveaway, I too think you have to come up with something a little better if you want to stand up against all the freeware D-loaders/converters. If you want a great media converter, I'd recommend Media Buddy from SoundTaxi a previous GAOTD offer.

this software is pretty good for YouTube site for download and converter it is easy to do love this software thumb up

I found this program too much of a hassle. For starters, it needs Adobe flash, and insists on MS IE to be selected as dedicated browser.

I have still not managed to download anything from youtube using this program.

I am going back to save2pc Light...which downloads and converts youtube files to avi and other formats.

everytime i it get to the activating process of my download it says can not connect try again later..it never connects to this site..not sure why..tried everything..does anyone of the reg key code for the foxreal youtube flv downloader so i can enter it and get it

This is the only video downloader that successfully downloaded a video i've been wanting that a host of other similar programs couldn't do for some strange reason. It was also easy to use and figure out(can't understand the comments that it was difficult) and was able to convert it to several different formats without a hitch. Love it and worth the $ they ask for.

@8 banda - Download speed has nothing to do with the program, it all depends on your internet connection download speed and the server's upload speed, along with any throttling the server might impose.

Well, there is no reason for any commercial video download programs, since there are so many free alternatives. Additionally, I'll bet there are plenty of free video conversion programs, too. I really don't understand why there seem to be so many of these commercial "download/convert videos" programs, I definitely wouldn't buy one at least.

Download went well and works very good. Will also convert to movie format so you can play on MP4 player. Excellent, Thanks

Foxreal doesn't browse anything! It's looking for this web page: http://www.foxreal.com/youtube_downloader_pro/website_library.html
and doesn't find anything. I've disabled the PC firewall.

Thanx, and I found Foxreal's Facebook.
We can get more info about Foxreal.
Thanks GOTD and Foxreal.

Thanx, and it's so nice to read your review again, Ashraf. Missed you. Ihope I don't receive too many thumbs down, if I ask for a recommandation for a freeware YouTube download app, 'cause there are a lot of outstanding tutorials, I use in my work as volunteer music teacher for young addicts in recovery. Thanx in advance and a hug from Denmark.

Program downloaded and installed fine. I'm not in the US, but Foxreal DL'd latest a video from Youtube quickly and easily, AND just DL'd an episode of a fave TV show available in Canada with no problems. Nice UI, simple to use (surprisingly so). @4 don't have to convert from FLV, but can if you want, so it's actually a nice option to have. A keeper, at least based on DL of one show. Thanks Foxreal and GAOTD!

I don't need this so I won't download it. However I did play with the trial a while back before I found out about the "Download Helper" on the Firefox extensions page.

From what I remember, it installed fine on my old Windows Vista machine and delivered as promised.

But for those of you who are using Firefox, I'd recommend downloading "Download Helper" instead. It's like I said, a Firefox extension which does a ton of things. It can grab any FLV video (like Youtube, Megavideo etc.) in a snap. You can cue files to download and even convert them while downloading.

It's 100% free and was a recommended add-on to Firefox on Mozilla's home page.

Find it here: http://www.downloadhelper.net/

This will save you from having to download a separate program and mucking up your registry. :)

I have used YouTube Song Downloader and Free FLV Converter with great success for many years. Both are free. So what does this costware programe do other than pretenciously say its 'professional'?

WIN XP PRO SP/3 - Difficult program to learn to use, but once you get the hang of it, it does everything advertised and the output and conversion are equal to YouTube.

Thank you GAOTD and Foxreal!

Thank you, Ashraf, for that unofficial, kindasortofmaybe, qualified, nonendorsement, I think? Anyway, apparently there is a lot of interest in these converters, even to convert from one format to another for a simple viewing on one's desktop or laptop, which if you'll excuse the French, I don't effing understand, since every conversion that I know of between formats like that tends to degrade the video in some way or other or at least reduce one's future options, Please correct me if I am wrong, but I prefer just to view the video in its "original" format (many, if not most, of them have already been converted at least once before being posted on the internet) and just try to live with whatever limitations the video has, since they are often grainy when enlarged. But the most burning question I have about this program is about its sponsors and the fact that their website is down for a whole day or more is not all that encouraging. For instance, are they still a going concern that will stay in business and continue to develop the program, i.e. issue any patches, fixes, updates, etc. that may be needed by it in the future? The reason I worry about this is the converter business is full of competition, including some big companies, and it occurs to me that giving away their program for free on this website could be some sort of last gasp effort to get cheap word-of-mouth advertising going on. Of course, for all I know that might be the same motivation as a lot of other publishers who choose to participate in GAOTD, and maybe we as users don't care that much if the program at least stnds up to a rigorous round of testing by the commenters here, but I guess I am a little leery of putting much faith in circumstances like this one. Please excuse the rambling, but once I get started it's hard to stop.

Install it on my Windows 7, and i got SnowFox YouTube Downloader HD several weeks ago, it also works well. Thanks Foxreal & GOTD.

Foxreal's website has been down all day and is still down (at the time of this writing) so I was not able to grab a trial version of Foxreal YouTube FLV Downloader Pro beforehand to review. However, I did check out Foxreal YouTube FLV Downloader (the freeware version - you can read my review on it if you are interested) and based off what I saw in the freeware version, Foxreal YouTube FLV Downloader Pro is probably a good program. Of course, I can't officially recommend it since I have not reviewed it (please don't take this statement as a thumbs up or thumbs down... or thumbs anything, for that matter), but if I were a betting man (I am not) I would say Foxreal YouTube FLV Download Pro is probably a worthwhile program.
