   ZenWriter would not activate, Robotask would not - then I realized I just put a new router in - could that be the problem? There is no entry in the firewall to allow/prevent "activate" from running - what is the actual file name for your activation utility?
   I am running XP SP3 on a quadcore system, with a Netgear N600. Nothing else was changed, just the router install.
   Any suggestions on why activation has suddenly stopped working?

   I don't know about Robotask, but Zen Writer was activated by using the registration code that was in the ReadMe file.

   Thanks for the reply,
   +Nope, the actual "Activate" program does not connect to the internet.
   With the ZenWriter, the ZenWriter program would not connect to the internet.
   Everything else I test works just fine for internet connectivity.
   It's a mystery.

   Do you have Zone Alarm installed? I know that Zone Alarm will interfere with the activation process - as soon as I removed it from my PC, the activation process was (and is) fine. Just some food for thought.

   Thanks Inas, but I run PC Tools Firewall Plus, and it does not list any restrictions to the programs involved in installing/registering, as far as I can tell.
   This is driving me crazy, as I also would like today's program! Too bad there is no response form the staff yet at GOTD.

   I had the opposite of your problem - I had to fight my PC with every download but the following seem to have resolved the issue:

   If you're not running the latest version of the firewall (version 7) then you might try it ( http://www.pctools.com/firewall/ ).

   Otherwise, since you're running SP3 then you might try logging off and logging back on (not rebooting). There's a problem with one of the dll's (maybe run32?) where the timing is off and the icons don't load in the status bar. Not a big deal but you may have stuff running that you don't see and you need to turn off.

   Lastly, if you're using a Nvida card try turning nwiz.exe off in the startup. Besides being a memory hog the dll associated with the file doesn't seem to play nice with my SP3 system. I think this was the actual cause of my problem but you may not have an Nvidia card.

   Graylox - I am aware there is no warranty of any kind, nor am I looking for that, I just want to get some help to solve the darn problem; I've been a loyal fan and user of this site for years now, and this is disconcerting to me, as I love coming here to check out the software!
   - I called Netgear and they insist their router is just that, a router, and couldn't POSSIBLY be at fault.They suggested I call my provider to see what "restrictions" I have - since I changed only the router, I don't buy their explanation! I did go through the router configuration - and that's saying a lot because it's capabilities and settings options are huge - then I went through the firewall line by line including the hidden options to make sure no restrictions were in place against this site or the authentication program.

   GRAYLOX - could you please provide the exact file name ofthe authentication program?

   I also tried to upload a screenshot, but since you need to have it located in an http address, I tried to go to photobucket, but I could not upload the file! (I have lots of pix on there already, so that's totally weird). I can download, but not upload now?

   I am going to try some of ChrisS' suggestions next; I think it is very helpful to log the details and the problems we have, so that others can benefit from our struggles, yes? More later!

   IE was OFFLINE! I use Firefox, so had no idea. After extensive testing and troubleshooting, it was a simple fix - go to IE and select a website. Done. Well, I missed Yesterday's program, but we're back in the saddle!
   THANKS TO ALL!
   p.s.
   apparently shdocvw.dll can be accessed by any program, and this acts as a front end to any browser; if a program (like an install for a ROUTER) messes with it, it can shut off IE!
