I was going to install this giveaway but ended up canceling the install. My reason is simple. I will not turn off my firewall and/ or deactivate my anti virus software for anyone.

I didn't turn off my firewall or anti virus and it still installed just fine!

my firewall's in learning mode, but avast! and threatfire didn't have any problems during install or testing.
OTOH, my LAN is behind 2 routers with SPI firewalls... no problem.BTW, I gather to be win7 compliant, m$ wants everything, data, etc. to default (firmly) to places in the Documents and Settings branch of the system. annoying as #$^%(&*^!!!

Now they've already emailed me twice about updating to a better version, for a fee, of course!

If you want the features most complained about Simply Good Pictures not having (drag-n-drop and batch processing) and much more, it's a steal. If I had 10 euros to get it, I would.
take a look at my comments on the software page.
I got somewhat more of those offers since I installed it on 5 machines with different emails!

You really would think they would give you a day or two to try out the free version before hitting you with the "sales spiel" to upgrade to a "better" version.
If they were selling you a pair of shoes - they wouldn't even let you walk out the shop with the pair you just got - before they were trying to get you to try on another pair... only better (and more expensive).

being the twisted, paranoid, and sneaky person I am- my first thought would be that Simply Good Pictures was created, website and all, as marketing to give people a 'taste' of the core routines, to make more sales of Photomizer.
(which gives you a week to try- enter your info here to add another 14 days...)
since a *paid* registered user of SGP is already in for 20 €'s, getting drag-n-drop and batch processing for just 10€ more makes it *really* attractive. after doing a few dozen photos the hard way, *really extremely* attractive.
And, giveaway trade-ups still bring in 10€ that wouldn't have come in otherwise...
Or not. YYMV, this offer may not be available in all areas, surcharge may apply.

Ayuh, "Pushy" is a good word for engelmann media, they still haven't said how long the offer's good for, but the email I just got offers even more 'deals' for registered users.
I think I'm gonna write and ask how much time those offers are good for..
if it's long enough I might find the bucks to try one.

Welcome to the club.. I just got another one too. Mainly saying now that I've had time to try, yada, yada, yada. Heck.. I've only tried it once when I first got it just to see how well it works and haven't had the time yet to mess around with it. They do give the option of opting out of getting their 'newsletters'.

Well maybe they were a bit 'pushy' or eager to promote some offerings ...then again some Gotd builds even have promotional offers in the main screen...so I don't mind.
And they do offer some neat programs.
YMMVThere was no need to turn off any security program over here either.

also, whatever the motivation, photomizer gives far more than just drag-n-drop, batch optimization, and zoom to see details over Simply Good Pictures for that 10€. an HDR-Simulator, Picture frame setting [for digital frames], optimization for the Web, a brightener mode, etc. single/dual view and more.
[if videomizer goes nearly as well, 30€ is worth it, the last video improver I saw was 500+. 100 euros off ain't bad.]
