Today I ran a virus scan using BitDefender. For the first time I got a message saying it could not scan some password protected files. The log showed that these were all from 3 games - one from Gamehouse (all the other Gamehouse games scanned OK) which I removed from my computer since I never play it anyway and both versions of Spirit of Wandering - the one from GGOTD and the one from MyPlayCity. What exactly does this mean?

as it dose not know the password can not scan if it can not read can not scan.
All so can not scan Tmp, Temp, Software Distribution thats is the download for updates

It means the file is password protected. Some games use ZIP files and protect them with passwords so that the regular user cannot extract and change game data (that is, anti-me). What games were they exactly?

That makes sense. data_eng.pak is a ZIP file, and most likely it's encrypted.

GM, as usual, is right, Terri. In the days of long ago, hackers could hide viruses, or necessary components of them, in archive files - like zips, of course - because scanners didn't check them. For many years now they have. They unpack the archive into a temporary location, then scan it. There's even settings on most AVs to control how far down in an archive they'll dig, because you could put a zipped file in a zipped file in a zipped file, etc., for example. The reason game manufacturers use password protected archives is to prevent folks like us from hacking settings and game distributors do it sometimes so you can't disable their game "shells" that pop up whenever you play a game from their site.
Probably wasn't any danger there, but I can't knock prudent behavior on your part. As the old saying goes, "Ya pays your money, and ya takes your chances."
