Thanks for the heads up wizz. As Graylox said, great find. I usually back up my documents folder which contains many game save folders, but it doesn't save every game to My Documents. Other places you'll find Saves are in the installed games foldr. I have discs full of game saves, but badly need to use one of those database programs to catalogue all my discs.
As for formatting, I also format my computer regularly. I download literally gigabytes of stuff from the internet virtually every day. With that, all the free games I test as well as having upwards of a thousand games and apps installed on my computers, the discs tend to get full of rubbish. I find it simpler to just format the disc with my OS on and restart. I have three or four HDD's in each computer, so most of my programs are still installed on the discs that I don't format. I usually only find it necessary to format the disc with the OS installed; and I usually only install the OS and other programs that I can easily install onto that disc (which is also the smallest disc of the three or four installed on the computer. Games and most of my app’s are installed on different discs and rarely get formatted. I have most of my drivers, my ‘documents and settings’ and essential programs backed up ready to reinstall as well loads of executable registry keys that I’ve created via the registry editor (though only those that I’m able to see registration codes for), so generally it's a relatively painless process to format (form me at least). And in the end I get a fresh O.S. that’s usually blazing fast (yeah , lol) as well as a few other benefits.
I do intend to start using my purchased copy of Acronis True image, but until I can dedicate one of my external hard drives for use exclusively for creating images of each of my Operating systems it’s not being used at all. Whenever I buy an external hard drive for that purpose I end up using the external for the games that I’m either downloading for free or purchasing every day …. lol.
Each to their own though. I’m sure we all have our own way of sorting our management out. What's good for one may be a nightmare for someone else. It really all depends upon how much time you have spare as well as a whole host of other factors.
