Today's GOTD (SysResources Manager)was released six hours ago and there are still only three comments. That's a bit unusual I'd say and it's not an isolated incident. Anyone know a reason for the stall?

Well, you may be just be making a subtle prod, so this blunt response may be dense on my part, but I think many of us know - you included, of course - what it likely is. The clue is the time of the last post - 5:34 EDT. It's now 9:40 EDT. It's likely the standard problem. There's only one dedicated moderator - Bubby - and he can't do everything. GOTD staff - however many or few there are - gets to it whenever they feel they need to, or can, or both.
Now I'm not saying GOTD's bad, or broken, or needs fixed, or any of the strange stuff I'm often accused of, or implying any criticism at all. Just trying to throw out a probable answer to what I take as a serious question.

Hello watcher13,
I'm curious where this suspicious nature of yours came from to make such a remark:
"Well, you may be just be making a subtle prod".
I asked a simple question; If your reading that much into a person's comment, a vacation away from it all might save you from getting that ulcer you're headed for. I've been a regular for quite some time, and I'll probably stay a regular for quite some time. I will say this about your response, when you wrote "so this blunt response may be dense on my part" you were right about that!
If I may use a vernacular, "chill-out brother man, it's all good" ;)

This situation only seems to occur at weekends. There are only a few moderators for each giveaway section. Even moderators need weekend off. I try to moderate the game giveaway comments as often as possible, but I will sometimes have up to 4 or 5 hours when I'm taking a nap (due to the opiate meds I take) when I can't moderate. There is someone else that moderates but I don't know who it is and they usually only moderate if I’ve not been around.
I noticed when the game giveaway went to weekends only the moderating became very sporadic; much like the apps side of the project is now. Sometimes they were only being moderated 3 or 4 times in a day, and the comments were becoming fewer and fewer. I felt that this would sound the death knell to the game giveaway side of the project because I'm sure those developers who do contribute do want to see that their product is getting noticed; that and the fact that my reviews weren’t being posted for several hours after sometimes staying up all night to get them posted at the start of the giveaway. I contacted the owners and basically said I couldn't see any point in continuing with the reviews unless they allowed me to moderate (the main reason was so that I could ensure my reviews were posted right away. I've really enjoyed moderating the games section and always try to maintain a professional standard of moderation as well as giving it a personal touch by answering most queries. I think I've maintained a decent moderation rate since I was granted permission early last year, with a few exceptions when I've been really ill.
I know you are talking about the apps giveaways but felt I had to comments as the game side of things tends to be forgotten.
I've considered volunteering to moderate the applications section a swell, but to be honest I don’t find the apps side very interesting so couldn’t do the job the way I feel it should be done.
b.t.w. Watcher, I've missed your usual in depth critiques of the game giveaways.

Sorry Renegade, but what I meant was - considering that you are a veteran here, and certainly a very intelligent one - that you may have already come to the same conclusion that I had. A conclusion that had already been expressed by others here in terms somewhat similar to what WR said: shortage of available moderators, for whatever reason. I'm sorry, I just thought that you might have seen those discussions - as I've said, we've had them a few times in these pages before - so I just wanted to hedge my bet in case you were just trying to give a little dig to GOTD to have someone go over and moderate the page. We talk about so much stuff here, it's hard to know what people have seen.
I wasn't being suspicious, I just was trying to not insult you in case I missed some subtlety in what you said. Edit: Like I said, I did take your question seriously, because it was a valid and intelligent one. End of edit. Unfortunately, I seemed to have insulted you anyway. Also, unfortunately, I'm not sure you got my other point. That is that some people seem to be awfully suspicious of some of the straightforward things I say, attaching agendas to them that just don't exist. I remember that John Lennon used to be amazed about some of the meanings people read into the Beatles music that just weren't there. "Paul is dead". LOL.
Thanks for asking, but no, I'm not getting an ulcer. I hope I'm not giving anyone an ulcer. I'm not trying to. Maybe anyone that I'm giving an ulcer should take your advice and "chill out" and take a vacation.
Thank you for those kind words, WR, but I'm afraid you give me too much credit. It's more anal retentiveness than anything else. :) Actually, I often procrastinate on testing so much that my comments would be too late to do any good, anyway. I didn't test yesterday's drag racing giveaway till this morning. :( More importantly, please keep up your good work as long as it isn't a burden. I, like most everybody else, take full advantage of your detailed posts in my decision making. Again, thanks!

I agree aRenegade about assuming ones meaning instead of reading whats wrote. Now if I did the same after reading:
"Maybe anyone that I'm giving an ulcer should take your advice and "chill out" and take a vacation."
I'd have to say that I don't have an ulcer and don't need a vacation. LOL see what I mean about reading things into peoples posts? This is not a dig at you watcher13 its simply a point.
I read the starting post aRenegade made. Because I'm not in the know and had no answer I simply didn't reply because it would have been wasted bandwidth.

Gee Archangel, did you think I meant you? Believe it or not, I don't think about you that often. I assure you I wasn't when I wrote the above post. As far as mistaken points, I'm not sure why, ""Maybe anyone that I'm giving an ulcer should take your advice and "chill out" and take a vacation" would have gotten a reaction from you at all. It was only a reply about an unfortunate misunderstanding between me and aRenegade, who, again believe it or not, I have a lot of respect for even if we've occasionally had disagreements. I seem to recall we've also occasionally agreed. Go figure. Again, as hard as it is to believe, I've had respect for a lot of your opinions, too. Though not so much for your "non-digs".
I'm not sure if anybody has anything to add that would actually advance this topic, like Whiterabbit did. If not, perhaps it should be closed. But, I'm interested in any respectful debate. I even sometimes talk to newbies, rather than just dismissing them with smart remarks. But I'm weird that way.
Oh well, I guess you felt you needed to use some bandwidth.

You missed the point. No I didn't think that several of your comments were at me. The point aRenegade was making is about reading so much into a comment. All I did was follow up using your follow up post. And I respect some of the posts too.

Well all I said was we talked before about a shortage of moderators and I believed that's what happened here. Whiterabbit seems to be of the same opinion. That seems to be the real point. Unless someone else can shed any more light, seems like the questions answered. Or if someone else wants to express any opinion on the difficulties that occasionally appear to come up because there's no moderator at a particular time, those posts would seem to relevant. Other than that, the rest of these discussions seem to be off topic, so I won't burden anybody with discussing them further. If someone wants to PM me on those issues - fine - though I may not respond to all PMs completely positively. Kinda depends on the contents of the PM. But it seems that, usually, when there are very few comments and the last one was hours ago, it's because nobody's moderating.
