would like GOTD to have a consistent post where gifts can be compared to other reviews and updated continuously. eg this gift should be cross referenced to competing reviews arising from the post. then if there are any leads they should be cross referenced. if GOTD had previous reviews which relate they should then be appended. this review section should always be available whether ot not the webmaster chooses to compare to other offerings, so that contributors might fill the gap. this section should be just after each post so that we can get an immediate feel for whether the Gift is worth persuing. [I am aware that the webmaster does nto post reviews always.] this review section will round off the gifts offered some of which actually might compete or conflict with others and thus we can remove lesser gifts as better gifts come available.

Peccadilloes,
I am sorry to ask this, but could you perhaps explain what you are asking for. I would love to either give some support or help you, but I honestly am confused at what you are meaning in your post. I am assuming that by 'Gifts' you are meaning the offered giveaway or free game offered. Though not sure what you are asking for by way of the post.

I think the guy means that together with the giveaways should be reviews. By aggregating the reviews, people will know whether or not the giveaway is good and whether or not it conflict with other software. With each new version of a giveaway, the reviews will be appended. Over time, the operators of GOTD can learn from the reactions whether or not a type of giveaway should be offered as frequently.
Unfortunately, there are some problems with this approach. The GOTD team won't ever be bothered to aggregate reviews (too many sources, most of them are not trusted). Also, there are a lot of differences between giveaways, meaning it's hard to rate the software only based on other similar software. However, I do think it will help if more popular software types are served more often.

GMMan has got it in one!
I understand the potential difficulty but if this could be tried then GOTD COULD BECOME a more authoritative site and move up the ladder in terms of what it could do. sometimes a contributor who might be expert in that software could [if trusted] give an objective sum up with suitable links.
I recognise the difficulties but brainstorming might lead to feasioble solutions.Posted 14 years ago # -
First of all most of here already know the reviews system is flawed and huge junk of voters vote do not vote on the review they vote on the poster.
For instance if you are Ahsraf a huge junk vote no just because its him. I cant determine the yes people but he always gives a comprehensive review that is almost always worth a yes just for the informative value.
There are some others that I was thinking of, but I cant find there posts to remind of their names, they must have quit cause they got sick of people and their reviews after they do all that work.
Regardless of the above, how would you rate someone that gives a review that the product doesnt work on a 64bit computer that just wants other 64bit people to know not to waste their time. The 32bit bit users slam the ratings with a no vote or people just vote no cause it wasnt enough. Those no voters are to ignorant to realize that this person cant test the product to give a full review, but they slam it with no votes anyway.
There are more people here that can tell you more about it than me. I haven't gotten that involved. I have just listened to debates here. Do a forum search. This has been discussed in better detail.I do agree with you if people were more honorable, but I have seen for those reviews that they are not. Sorry!

Thank you all for helping me. I get exactly what you are saying now, BUT I also agree with Txnnok and GMman. The biggest problem with doing that (in my opinion) is that there is now way to assure that you are getting quality reviews and/or honest votes. Also, there is a huge problem with not knowing who is going to let GOTD offer their program and who isn't. We have all known (as Txnnok) that the flawed review system exists, but it is the 'how to fix it' that is the problem. Lets just say that GOTD starts getting a steady flow of programs from several of the same companies for the sake of this. Now, there are many upon many that come, look at what is offered and if it is not what they want or looks like something to confusing they will vote it negatively based on that. Also, some will actually download and install but at the slightest problem they uninstall and vote it negatively. As well, there are many that are guilty of judging it based on someone else review.. I cannot lie I have done this in the past, but have not given a thumbs up or down; just chosen to pass or use a few times.
Now, if we sift out those people we get to the people giving honest reviews and opinions. This is what is needed. If there were more of these kind of reviews instead of "It sucks", "There is better out there", and/or "Didn;t work for me" then it would solve a lot of the problem that people are complaining about.
In a sense we are the reason that the 'bigger' named companies do not offer their software here. They are not doing this out of the goodness of their heart; they are doing it to get an overview of how their product is viewed. Getting to keep the version we test (for lack of a better word) is our payment for giving them our opinion. The people giving the above negative/unhelpful reviews bloat the system and in return give a bad view of here and make them look somewhere else for what they need. I know that my explanation is a bit of track, but bare with me and maybe you will see what I am getting at. If we (the users of GOTD) were to give consistent, honest, and good reviews then the word would spread that GOTD is a valuable resource for these companies to use. In turn we would get better software to use/test. In turn would make it a necessity for them to have a better review system, in turn would make us all happy.SO, where I am getting with all this is this: We are stuck in the circle much like the "What came first the chicken or the egg". We view it as if we had better we would do better. GOTD views it as if we would offer better they could get better. The companies/software makers view it as when and if this place gets its ..umm.. ducks in a row.. they would love to be here. I don't have the answer either, but this seems completely obvious to me and has for some time. Just no one wants to hear it and so it falls on deaf ears..err..blind eyes... whatever. I think your idea Peccadilloes is excellent, but will never happen unless we start getting the same companies offering different versions of their software more repetitively..in my opinion. I hope that answers or helps in some way. Again, I am just another member here that wishes he could help and make a difference, but my answer if no better than anyone else probably.
Best Regards,
