From the FAQ:
1. Is Internet Explorer able to connect to the internet. Even if you use another browser to browse the internet, the GOTD activation/setup process will use the Internet Explorer "engine" to connect. Make sure also that Internet Explorer is not set to "work offline".
Even if you use another browser - Internet Explorer must still be functional and NOT set to "Work Offline". The setup will always fail if Work Offline has a tick next to it.
If that doesn't work, try the other suggestions in the FAQ.
Thanks for your reply. I use Firefox. I opened Internet explorer as suggested used to download the current GAOTD same problem. Any more suggestions?
Since you've confirmed that the IE Engine is working as it should, you might install and run TCPeye to see if a connection is being opened to the server. Close all browsers and run the setup.exe from GOTD... what do you see in TCPeye?
If you don't see a new connection then your router isn't allowing the connection, your firewall isn't allowing the connection, or the IE engine isn't allowing the connection which you've already ruled out.
If you see a connection then the internet is busy (wait until later), you're using all of your available bandwidth (close programs, kill auto-updates, kill the "phone home" routines or wait until all that stuff finishes), or you might have a connection issue resulting from a corrupted cookie (clear any giveawayoftheday cookies in both IE and Firefox, plus clear all temporary files in both IE and Firefox).
Are you sure that you didn't update the firewall or router definitions a couple of days ago?
Hello Chris,
I tried your suggestions and was getting really frustrated, nothing seemed to work.
After looking for every menu I could find I ran across one had an option that let me reset Internet Explorer back to as installed state (or something like that) That has seemed to fix the problem. Thanks for your help. It really means a lot to have someone take the time to help others with problems.

However I removed download, emptied cache and rebooted ... one of these fixed it and now registered
