Checking on the above list,I've got at least a dozen of them including TW7(probs with 8),Flatout 2,Battlefield 1942,Mcrae 4,Silent Hunter 3 and Painkiller Black.Have just installed another hard drive and am busy re-installing many of the games I've picked up in the last 5 years. Will gradually be adding a few to my steam list.Never been good at connecting with others to play games online as setting up pc can be a hassle, but hope to get involved more.

I hope you do. It took me a long time to start playing online but once I found a small group of regular players i couldn't get enought. a bad experience playing Battlefield 2 put me off for a few years, but since wizzard set up the giveawayoftheday Steam group i'm slowly getting back into it. we play in a friendly atmosphere with no flaming or unecessary heavy tactics. If we find a player who is new to the game we take it easy. It's no fun getting blasted every few seconds, lol. Let me know anytime you fancy a game from any one of the games I've listed above and I'll set up a server.
When you join the Steam group click on my icon at the bottom of the groups page. i'm one of the moderators so am easy to find and invite me to be your friend. that makes it easier to find you and to invite you to games.

No, i don't have DOW II, besides, my system wouldn't be able to run it.
Soulstorm adds an unnecessary level of complexity with air units, and only takes away from my preferred side, changing some of the upgrade and unit tiers, weakening the Necron side. Dark Crusade is my preferred game.
I could try get into Soulstorm I guess, no promises though. 8) <-- ME

I've only just started playing them Chronopie; it just so hapend that soulstream was the first one i tried. i'll check out Dark Crusade. We can try that one sometime relatively soon, once i've got into the controls and has some practice. :) I've never played this genre online before; but after getting back into playing online thanks to wizzard i'm keen to try all the genres i've got that do have online play. In particular Company of Heroes, Tom Clany's Hawx (flight sim) and some of the racing games. I'm thinking of buying Trackmania United forever as it's got 50% off this week, though i may try out the Trackmania Nations forever version first, which is a free download via Steam. I do have a DVD copy of the freeware version which came bundled with a NVidia graphics card I bought a few years ago (I ended up with two copies as I bought two cards to run in SLI; though I quickly gave a copy away). I think the Trackmania Nations Forever version is just an updated version of the Trackmania Nations game (which is also freeware). I think I'll post a seperate thread about the free version. I didn't realise it was included on Steam until I checked out the one that's on 50% off this week.

Trackmania Nations Forever is Free, Trackmania United Forever isn't.
The difference is that nations is a stripped down version, with only one type of vehicle, and fewer levels, United has 4 (?) vehicle classes, and more levels.
If you're looking for a challenge on DC, give me a days notice so I can install, and warm up. Bit Rusty LOL.

I've installed DOW, through DOW:DC, almost ready for your challenge

Thanks Chronopie......
As for your IM I saw it this morning..... The reason you wern't able to access the server was because my son had reconnected the router and then turned his own computer on, which automatically switchs Steam to his computer. Steam is in the Start up memu on all my computers. Sorry f it caused any problems. I'm back off to bed. Still not feeling 100%

Hi Chronopie, K I'll keep an eye out.
The server is up and running. Though no one has joined yet. If I'm not there at 1am I may have dozed off as I'm rather tired after an eventful week. I'll be hiding in a corner somewhere or just standing there if the server has switched maps.
The map cycles every 45minutes. i've set every map to play as I don't know what everyones favorites are. The password as usual is:
cholon
If you aren't able to join the server via my Steam name you should easily be able to find it using the filters when you start up a multiplayer game. look for Giveawayoftheday Half Life 2 Deathmatch. filter for Password protected and not VAC secure. There's rarely more than 5 or 6 that are in that category, so it should be easy to find the server.
i'll leave the server up for most of the night unless there's little activity. i can see whether anyone has played via the server control panel. :)
I will be popping in occasionaly to see how things are going, so if no ones there at the time you join, it may still be worth jumping in and either messing around, or running an arcade game to fill the time while you wait for someone to join. anyone joining shuouls flag up a pop up window, so you'll know someone has joined. I'm too tired to stay in game all night, so as said above i'll pop in occasionally to see whose there.

Thanks for playing this evening Chip. And thanks for showing me the K key. :) The next time we play HL2 connect a head set as Chip pointed out that we can talk to each other just by depressing the K key. The sound of the voice was a little flat, but not at all bad. Definitely adds more to the game.
I hung around (still am connected) until nearly 2a.m. but can't wait for anyone else to turn in. I'll leave the server up for a little while longer just in case a few of you come along. :)
Hopefully we can find a more amenable time to play. I discussed with Chip whether or not to set the time later in the morning, say 3am. That would make it a little easier for you guys in the US to join at a more respectable time. I'm sure at the time I usually set the games to play you're having dinner, lol. and if you are in australia you,ve already had breakfast.
It's hard to find a time that's suitable for all of us to join it at the same time, so if you could let me know whether a 3am GMT (that'll be 10pm Eastern, 8pm Mountain) start would be a better option for most of you people? Thanks in advance for any feedback given.
Whiterabbit
p.s.
sorry to keep reminding you about this. I just don't want to be setting up servers ever weekend when only a few or no one turns up. I've spent a lot of time waiting around on the off chance that someone will connect. We've had some great games when theres been four or more playing, but to be honest, since running these servers back in April/May, that's happened only a few times.
Posted 14 years ago # -
Yeah 10pm Eastern time would be good for me. But I can even go later than that if need be. Hopefully we find a time many people agree on because it's more fun with more people.

Fully intended to make an appearance this week,as mentioned to WR through week, decided to grab a couple of hours sleep earlier last night, set alarm for 10.30(uk),slept right through it and woke to see sun streaming in window at 06.30 this morning.'Unfortunately' my best nights sleep for months

I should have announced this earlier, but hopefully you'll have seen my post regarding Unreal tourament.
I will be setting the server up quite late (my time) in the hope that those that live in the US will find the time to play more amenable. The server will start at 2am on sunday. That's 9pm Saturday eastern time, 7pm Mountain time and6 pm Pacific time. The server will stay open until around 9am GMT. I wont be able to stay up for the whole server time, so the competition is going to have to be based on the time members play from 2am till I decide I need to go to bed.
Just in case you missed the competition I posted there's a DVD copy of Unreal Tournamnet 2004, Unreal Tournament 2003, an X-Box copy of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Choas Theory and a Steam Guest Pass for Mad Balls in Babo Invasion an ecellent arcade shooter, that's on offer via Steam at the moment. The guest pass gives you a weeks worth of unlimited access to the game. Plus there may be other surprises; not decided yet though. ;)

I've just posted the following over on Steam. I hope i've not left it too late. Been pre-ocuppied with the newly released Red Faction Guerilla, which is amazing.
Today’s game is just a knock around. There is a competition, but it's really just to introduce newcomers to Unreal Tournament. If you already own any unreal tournament games I'd ask you to be honest and let me know if you have any of the games. If no new comers turn in or there are any unclaimed prizes I’ll give then to who I think deserves them. Though I reckon most players who have UT3 will have most or all of the previous games. :) The reason I ask this is that I want those who don’t own any Unreal Tournaments to get these games. Though the last two (Tom Clancy and Babo Invasion are negotiable, lol. The games include Unreal tournament 2004, Unreal Tournament 2003, an X-Box copy of Tom Clancy's splinter Cell chaos Theory and a Quest Pass for the newly released Mad Balls in Babo Invasion. Plus there may be other surprises. Not sure yet about the latter. ;) The winners will be chosen for enthusiastic play, the length of time they play for and in small measure the points they score. Let me make it clear, points are the least important aspect of the game. It's all about having FUN.
The way I'll be working out who wins what will be points will be scored for every ten minutes of play, enthusiastic play, which will be determined by communication with other players will also be scored.
As I doubt I'll be able to stay up all night playing the game The competition will run from the start of play at 2am GMT (9am Eastern time, 7pm Mountain time and 6pm Pacific time) till the time I need to crash. Though I will be leaving the servers open for further play until around the giveaway change over which is 8am GMT, that’s six hours from start to finish.

Would anyone interested in playing on tonight’s server please confirm below.
Unfortunately if we don't get more than six players (for the purpose of the competition), I will still set up the server as normal, but no competition will run and I will probably not play myself.
Assuming we get six players, I'll be moderating most of the time as I need to collect data for the competition. (Though I will jump in to play as much as i can :)

Okay, the next game to be played will be Half life 2 - Deathmatch. I've set a date for the 5th Oct at midnight GMT.
I've also posted some suggestions over in the giveawayoftheday Steam groups forums (set up by OMGZombies), that may enable us to work out what games we want to play and when to play them.
Please will all steam group members go over to the new forums and join. Thanks. Here's a link to the home page:

A big thank you to all those who put in an apperance for last nights Half Life Death Match game. Sorry I could only play till 01.30 GMT. Still, I really enjoyed the time I managed to get in.
If you want more Half Life 2, please post your suggestions for time and date here and in the Steam Groups giveawayoftheday forums via the link above.
Thanks in advance.
I'm provisionally arranging another match for the 19th Oct at the same time, but need some input from giveaway members before it's cofirmed.

I've been too busy to restart running a server for the past month and prior to that had been a little disappointed at the weekly turnouts. It's now deep winter for many of us, so there may be a possibility that more community members will turn in (I hope). Wizzard my also be running a competition, but i'll let him announce that properly.
Anyway, I'm going to create a server a week this Sunday (24th January), but until Wizzard of Oz has announced details, I can't dedide upon a time to start. It will provisionally be in the evening around 9pm and run for up to three hours. Whether I'll be able to stay awake till the end is another matter though as it'll be around 3am when I start the server.
Please let us know if you intend joiing the party next week by posting a comment in this thread. Thank you.
W.R.
Server details etc will be announced closer to the time (i.e i.p. and password and a more definite time frame), though if only a few community members turn up for the game it may be opened up to the public.

Hmm, if I'm not hanging out with friends or busy with college life than I will hopefully make it! :)
Posted 14 years ago # -
Well I will have to get in a bit of practice and also rearrange my medication to suit times, but hopefully I'll make it without some of the minor technical problems I've had previously.
Posted 14 years ago # -
I've got prizes to hand out =D Ideally, we would like for this game to only last for about 2 hours. I figure if the time is set for only 2 hours and not for the whole night like we normally do, more people will make an effort to show up and hopefully we'll have a better match. Prize details have not yet been worked out, but I do have up for grabs a copy of Shellblast, Spirits of Metropolis, and 2 copies of Liquisity 2 (all thanks to Vertigo Games.) I also have a copy of Irukandji windows, mac and linux versions (thanks to Charlie's Games. I am also willing to gift a $10 giftcard to amazon (not just the us version.) I may even come up with some more stuff by game time, just stay tuned ;)
~Edit~
I forgot to mention that I don't physically have copies of Shellblast and Spirits and Liquisity 2. Those may have to wait for awhile, but I will make sure to get them to you when they become available.Posted 14 years ago # -
Alright Stephen and I haven't ironed out a set time yet, I'm good for anytime though as I'm home all day. This post isn't really to discuss that.
Stephen and I have discussed this off and on for the last week and we've decided that we will play this Sunday in honor of g@rgoyle (aka granny/deadGiveaway/Lan.) G@rgoyle's commitment to the on going game project was uncanny. I've not met anyone who was so committed to her forum post that she refused any help in adding to the synopsis or fixing it when the forums first switched over and all old markups quit working. G@rgoyle continued her reliability and commitment to Stephen and I by showing up at every Steam game scheduled as long as her health permitted. During all of our games and discussions about the project and what-not, we grew close. I came to think of Lan as the grandma I wished I had, and she considered me her grandson. I will always consider her to be a good friend, a "great granny," and someone whose passion for all things life, I will admire for years to come. In honor of g@rgoyle, we will play this Sunday.

Well said Wizzard. We had some brilliant games together. She grew to love playing online with us and we enjoyed her company so much, a gentle woman with some interesting hobbies. she was in her 80's and was passionate about computing and motorcycling. when she told me she had four motorcycles I nearly dropped of my seat, lol. I loved motorcycling and was intending to buy another before my accident.
I do hope there will be a good turnout for Sundays game.
We've tentatively set the time for 11pm to 1am GMT. That's 6pm to 8pm Eastern time. I look forwards to meeting you all online. For those who've already seen the Steam announcement, the date is wrong. Sunday 24th January is the correct day.
