I’ve been looking for a simple way to turn longer YouTube videos into text without having to manually pause the video and copy everything.
For things like tutorials, interviews, podcasts, lectures, and research videos, having the transcript available can make it much easier to search for a specific topic or quote.
One simple workflow I found useful is:
Copy the YouTube video URL.
Paste it into a YouTube transcript tool.
Generate the transcript.
Copy the text or download it for later use.
I recently came across YTtoText, which does exactly this:
The useful part is that you can turn a YouTube video into readable text instead of repeatedly going back through the video. Timestamps are also helpful when you want to find the original section of a video again.
I think this can be especially useful for:
Students taking notes from lectures
