I confess I've never tried running a VM in Linux. The article's author OTOH has vastly more Linux experience than me, and writes that he's "... spun up thousands of virtual machines" in Linux. And for him VirtualBox has been troublesome, enough so that he's switched to Virt-Manager, a GUI to manage the Linux built-in KVM. After talking a bit about the pros & cons, he tells how to get started.
