Currently AI is about hype -- if you're a CEO & you talk up AI your stock prices [and your bonuses] go up. And companies involved in building out AI need mountains of hype to keep investments rolling in, since the only ones making money so far are those making the Hugely expensive chips used for AI, or doing the construction, building new data centers.
Today there have been quite a few new articles about Anthropic's claims that a Chinese hacking group used Anthropic's Claude AI for every step in a wide ranging cyber attack against 30 entities. Cyber criminals using AI is not new news, but using AI for every step of the attack is. Problem is, cyber security folks are at the least, skeptical.
"This Anthropic thing is marketing guff. AI is a super boost but it's not skynet, it doesn't think, it's not actually artificial intelligence (that's a marketing thing people came up with)," posted cybersecurity researcher Daniel Card.Much of the skepticism stems from Anthropic providing no indicators of compromise (IOCs) behind the campaign. Furthermore, BleepingComputer's requests for technical information about the attacks were not answered.
