When you're running Linux, almost everything you see is an add-on. The core OS is the same, but most all of the GUIs &/or windows you see are the result of separate, often interchangeable apps. Yes, it can be confusing, so the recommendation is to start with a distro [Distribution] that comes with the apps you want preinstalled, and basically looks good to *You*, since the appearance, the stuff you see, can be customized almost endlessly. Linuxfx, [recently?] rebranded as Winuxos, is one of the main distros, Ubuntu, made to mimic Windows, perhaps more so than any other.
What the devs were aiming for was to make running Linux as painless as possible for any & every Windows user, and according to the Tom's Hardware review, they largely succeeded. The only downside, which has gotten them some bad press & comments, is that they offer 2 versions, paid & free. From the review at Tom's:
I didn’t appreciate the pop-up notification or the full-screen browser window that asked me to purchase a serial key. Ok, this is a lifetime key, so $35 isn’t a bad price, but the confusion between purchase and donation leaves a sour taste. In all honesty, the free version is more than enough for most users. It fulfilled every test that I threw at it, and never left me wanting to spend money. Unless you really need the extra features or want to donate to the project, keep that $35 in your wallet.
