The newest model motherboards, along with the PCs & laptops using them, all use DDR5 memory, and while there's still a market for DDR4, it's shrinking. More importantly, manufacturing plants turning out DDR4 memory can make LOTS more money churning out memory chips for AI, so that's what companies like Micron are now going to focus on.
This matters if you have a PC or laptop that uses DDR4 memory, and you're considering upgrading the amount of RAM it uses -- by next year you'll pay a high premium, assuming you can find it to purchase. It can also matter if you're planning on building a budget oriented PC. You can still buy older generation motherboards that will run Win11 approved CPUs often much cheaper than the latest & greatest in the AMD & Intel camps. And those older gen motherboards most often use DDR4 memory. If you're on the fence, now may be the time to jump.
