ASCOMP Backup Maker archives your selection of files, which is different than image backup apps like AOMEI's Backupper, which clone hard disk/SSD partitions to VHDs [Virtual Hard Disks]. The idea is to save copies of your stuff, files that aren't part of Windows or your installed software, in case of hardware or software problems or becoming compromised by malware, e.g., ransomware. Alternatively you can use Windows File History, add hard/symbolic links to sync files/folders to OneDrive, use file/folder sync software, or just manually copy files &/or folders to another drive, but ASCOMP Backup Maker allows for versioning, saving just those files that have changed to a separate archive. You can also set a task [backup job] with a selection of files/folders that can be run from the command line that can be included in a .BAT file for example. Do remember that in the case of disaster you might need to reinstall Windows plus all your software, including ASCOMP Backup Maker, if you don't have a current image backup -- syncing or backing up files is complementary to creating image backups, as they can be overkill when the only thing that's changed is some of your files.
Registering ASCOMP Backup Maker is much better than the last time I installed a GOTD from ASCOMP, not requiring you to sign into your account, using a password you may not have noted or saved. Today the GOTD download just opens a dialog where you request a key from the page that opens in your web browser. You'll get an email with a customer ID that you copy/paste into that dialog, and the actual setup file, bkmakerVV.exe [10MB], is downloaded to Windows User temp folder and run. The app is installed to Program Files (x86), and includes several .ini files and a few PDF files in different languages -- the PDF manual is not available for every language. After deleting the non-English & uninstall files I had 11 files left taking up 22.1MB. A 2nd folder is added to Users\ [UserName]\ AppData\ Roaming\. The registry got one key for the app & one for uninstall.
