Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a cryptographic protocol designed to provide communications security over a computer network. The protocol is widely used in applications such as email, instant messaging, and voice over IP, but its use in securing HTTPS remains the most publicly visible.
TLS 1 & 1.1 are old, less secure versions that web browsers no longer use. Microsoft's been trying to kill them off in Windows, but has received some pushback because some software still uses one or the other of these two old versions. In the Microsoft blog [linked above] they talk about these versions going away with the next version of Win11, but Win10 is not mentioned, although the title of the blog [same as what I used for the title for this post] suggests that it's being removed from Win10 too. That blog has a list of apps that are expected to break.
Note: This is not an exhaustive list. All systems and organizations should test the disablement using the steps described above and observe any failures.
