Unlike their graphics cards, AMD's CPUs have have been seeing significant price drops, e.g. the 5700G has dropped almost $100 during a few sales. Now AMD has announced that the motherboard BIOS firmware they're releasing in May, 2022, will allow their new CPUs to work on motherboards with AMD'S 300 chipsets, which will make many upgrades both cheaper & easier. Note: AMD releases a generic firmware that motherboard manufacturers have to tailor to their products and make available for download / installation, so this will only work if the company that made your motherboard releases the new BIOS firmware. It is less work than it used to be, so quite a few will, but don't go buying that new CPU until you're sure. Yes, you will miss out on some new features, like PCIe 4 in the 500 series, but realistically that sort of thing only matters for high end rigs.
