When you run the setup file or app you’re asked to input the key, & a link is provided to the Ashampoo site to request one -- ashampoo[.]com/frontend/registration/php/trial_step1.php?edition_id=t3etd3ihu6wu4j7ahfjsmtyaykafwhyl&ref=linktarget . In the past when I’ve entered an email address registered with Ashampoo it asked me to enter the password & log into the account – this time it did not, sending an email instead, with a link that when clicked took me to a web page where the key was shown. Universal Extractor works with the setup file – it gave me the same folder & contents as installing the app, but I did not try to see if running it that way would automatically add the same registry entries as a normal install.
The main executable file -- Undeleter.exe – properties show Ashampoo WinOptimizer 7 with a copyright date of 2010. Installation adds the program’s folder, with 379 files, 11 folders, 33 MB. A 2nd folder is added to ProgramData that holds a single file, ico_ashampoo_deals.ico. The monitored install log shows:
The installation performed the following activity:
458 files added
75 files deleted
34 files updated
126 registry entries added
242 registry entries deleted
65 registry entries updated
The added registry entries include 2 keys, one for the app & one for uninstall, but there were also 2 oddballs – when I Googled on the value names I got one hit that far as I could tell thought it might be malware. I *think* that they may have to do with registration/activation, but that’s purely a guess.
