Basically a portable app with the exception of 2 registry values that hold the license or activation key, the version offered on GOTD wouldn't run in my win7 32 bit VM, but runs fine copied over to win10. The error message I got referenced the side by side configuration, which I take to mean it has to do with the Microsoft C/C++ runtimes installed. This was/is perhaps odd since the app includes those runtimes in the program's folder, but it is what it is. The VM does not have much software installed, & so not as many versions &/or copies of those runtimes, or maybe it's just win10 handles them a bit differently. The trial download did run & activate in the VM, but it's a slightly older version, and uses the prior version of those C/C++ runtimes, so when the developers updated the app they might have made an error or three.
I think the app itself is a more limited version of their Data Recovery Pro. At 2 registry entries & ~28 MB I stuck it in the folder with the other recovery apps or utilities I've picked up, chiefly from GOTD, in case it helps if I ever need it. AS I've mentioned before, when I last lost the contents of a drive, the real world performance of these recovery apps was quite different from what I'd found in limited testing, so I no longer try to evaluate their performance [pre-qualify] them beforehand -- if/when I ever need to recover files, whether a recovery app is going to work or not is somewhat quickly apparent.
