This is likely a workable solution, but probably not the best choice for most types of screen recording. It uses the x264 VFW codec, which would be my choice for recording playing [streaming] video, but the result, AVC/H.264 video files, is very ill suited to editing. So it would definitely not be my choice for tutorials, demonstrations, presentations etc. that you're going to want to edit, e.g. you're not going to want to make viewers of your tutorial wait a long time to see the results after clicking whatever button -- there's a great chance they won't wait, but leave.
ZD Soft Screen Recorder also uses ActiveX, though hard-coded rather than registered in or with Windows. Hard-coding saves you from a bit of registry bloat, as well as avoiding any conflicts with other installed software. And those ActiveX files may be more compatible with older versions of Windows vs. newer techniques. But that newer tech is also more efficient, which matters when you're recording something that already uses a significant amount of your PC's resources. That would include streaming 1080p video in a browser or playing more demanding games. In fact for gaming an add-on internal card or external capture box can be a better choice, using dedicated electronics rather than taking resources that can be used gaming.
At any rate there are plenty of alternatives, including software built into Windows 10 &/or AMD's graphics driver set etc.

That said, installing ZD Soft Screen Recorder isn't too bad. It stays confined to the program's folder, with the exception of dcc0e.msi, a copy of the app's setup file that's stored in C:\Windows\ Installer\. And since it uses a .msi installation file, you get quite a few more registry entries related solely to install & uninstall [I recorded about 700 new entries total, mostly install/uninstall & in the app's registry key]. I thought it a bit unusual that I didn't find the activation dialog, only to have it pop up when I gave up and closed the program.
