I currently have 1/2 dozen recovery apps that I keep handy just in case, because last time I needed to recover files, real world results varied quite a bit, which was something that didn't show up in testing. Following instructions in the GOTD readme.txt file, visited the listed URL, filled in name & email address, & received an email within a few minutes with a download link & registration data. Tenorshare Any Data Recovery is a light enough app, but I'm a bit puzzled why it adds a service that starts with Windows. The program takes up just short of 30MB in its program folder, with a log added to a Tenorshare folder in Users\ [UserName]\ AppData\ Roaming\. The registry gets new keys at: HKCU\ Software\ BugSplat -- HKLM\ SOFTWARE\ GuidGuid13 -- HKLM\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Uninstall\ {any data recovery}_is1 -- HKLM\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ services\ TenorshareDataRecoveryService . The Tenorshare service shows up in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, where you can start/stop the service, as well as set it to not start with Windows, though I've no idea if or how that last would effect the software's operation.
