Leawo Music Recorder is a simple audio recording app with minimal recording format options & its own virtual audio driver. Briefly on background, as a sort of DRM many Windows devices don't allow you to record what you hear from the device's speakers or using headphones -- a virtual audio driver is intended to overcome that. After installation the new driver was set as the default for both recording & playback, & for playback it was set to mute. Depending on your device's audio hardware, drivers etc., you may have to play with those settings a bit to get things back to normal when you're not recording.
Much to their credit Leawo doesn't make any claims that their software will record higher quality audio than alternatives [like some companies with similar software]. Recording audio is hardware dependent when it comes to quality, possible sample rates etc. A recording app may let you process the signal before it's written to disk, but it can't improve the original signal, it can't do anything about improving the analog to digital conversion, & it can't remove or lessen the electrical/electronics generated noise that usually occurs when recording with a PC, laptop etc. What it does do is try to make it easier.
Leawo continues their habit of using an older version of Microsoft's C/C++ runtime files -- the installation leaves the assorted temporary garbage in the root directory [folder] C:\ . Check Windows Update afterwards. The leftovers don't do any harm -- they're just messy. The app itself isn't too bad when it comes to impact on Windows...
You get the program's folder, a couple of new folders in Users\ [UserName]\ AppData\ Roaming\ , a new folder in My Pictures, a new folder in My Music, the C:\ Windows\ System32\ drivers\ leawo_vad.sys file, the folder C:\ Windows\ System32\ DriverStore\ FileRepository\ leawo_vad.inf_x86_neutral_9773ca6049b807ab\ , & the usual LastGood folder/files in C:\Windows\ whenever you add a new driver [in case you need to go back]. New registry entries are minimal for adding a new audio device & driver -- otherwise the app adds just a few keys.
Overall... *To me* the app doesn't have enough options, but then it couldn't include everything I'd want & still keep it easy & simple to use, which seems the goal of its design. If it has a claim to fame it's the included driver from a well known company, Leawo, which hopefully will work well for those who need it.
