Auslogics File Recovery is a 26MB app with low impact on Windows that you *might* be able to use semi-portably, running the app FileRecovery.exe from the program's folder, depending on if you are allowed to register it after today's GOTD is over. Files are stored in the Auslogics & ProgramData\ Auslogics\ folders.
The 1st comment on the GOTD download page, said that running the GOTD version they were immediately prompted to install a later version. I downloaded, installed, & registered the trial version to avoid that. Because of that I don't know if this is only with what was originally a trial, or if it effects all installs -- there are 2 files in the program's folder for Google Analytics [GASender.exe & GoogleAnalyticsHelper.dll], & I got an advertising pop-up when I ran it.
Hoping that I'm not jinxing myself, I haven't had to try recovering a file for some time now, & Recuva portable worked at that time, so I can't report something like then I used this Auslogics app & it saved my butt. I know if Recuva hadn't worked I would have tried another app, & in the future if I need to run a 2nd recovery app I might well give Auslogics a try, but I can't say how well it works compared to Recuva because I haven't had to use it in a real world situation. I hope you never have to either.
